Chapter 53

Lexi
Luther and I walk hand and hand out the back of the packhouse with Aiden just a step or two behind us. I keep looking over my shoulder to make sure he is still with us. “ So where are you taking us?” I asked Luther. “ First stop is the daycare.” Luther said. I stopped quickly. “ Luther, do you think I should pull back on the glow? I don’t want to scare anyone.” I asked. Luther placed his hand on my cheek. “ Baby, I’m not going to tell you what to do. I want you to be yourself. If you want to pull back that is up to you. But I don’t think you will scare anyone. Fascinate maybe. But not scare.” he said. I turned toward Aiden, “ Aiden?” “ I agree with Luther babe. It is your choice. Personally I like the glow and I think the kids will too. If you are really worried, pull back a little. Make it dull, don't put it out.” he said.

So just before we got to the gate I pulled it back a little. Luther opens the gate and leads us around to the backyard where I’m greeted with the pleasant sound of children's laughter. When we are fully in the back which houses a large playground I see ten to twelve kids running around, playing on swings or having a snowball fight. They were all dressed in jeans and had jackets on but that was it. But none of the kids seemed bothered by it. Luther leans over “ Even though they don’t have their wolves yet the cold doesn’t bother them too much.” I just nod. Makes sense. I see an older lady, maybe Pasty’s age sitting on a bench watching over the kids smiling. Luther leads me over to her. When she sees us she stands “ Alpha, what a pleasant surprise.” she said.

“ Hey Annette, I was just showing Lexi around the grounds and I thought this would be a good first stop.” Luther said. “ Lexi, this is Annette. She has been running the daycare since I came here.” Luther said. I hold my hand out for her to shake as Luther says “ Annette met Lexi. My mate.” Annette pulls back her hand and bows instead. I don’t think I will ever get used to people doing that. “ Oh Luther. That is wonderful news. Welcome young Luna.” she says. “ Thank you Annette. And it is just Lexi.” I said. “ And this is Aiden Cline, future Alpha of Aspen Rain.” Luther introduced. I liked that Luther included Aiden but I noticed he left out about being my other mate. I’ll have to ask him about it later.

Annette shakes Aiden’s hand and welcomes him. “ Young Luna, would you like a tour?” she asked me. “ Oh, I don’t want to interrupt. The kids look like they are having so much fun.” I said. “ I have to take them in shortly for a snack. If you don’t have anywhere to be I can show you then.” Annette said. “ Do we have time?” I asked Luther. I didn’t know if he had other things in mind for us. “ Of course,” he said. While we waited Annette explained to me that the daycare has different rooms for different ages of children. Anyone can drop their kids off whether they are going to work or just need to run a few errands. Or even date nights. “ After all, everyone needs a little time to themselves.” Annette said.

I was about to say that was a wonderful idea when I was shoved from behind. Normally it would not have been an issue but I was caught off guard and started to fall. Luther and Aiden were able to grab me before I hit the ground. “ Young Luna, are you alright?” Annette asked. Aiden and Luther helped me stand. “ Yes, I’m fine. Just surprised.” I watched Annette turn to a little boy about four years old. “ Emmit, you must be careful to watch where you are running. You could have hurt the Young Luna.” Annette said to the boy.

The boy looked down at the ground. “ I’m sorry. I was trying to get away from Steven. I’m out of snowballs and he has a bunch.” I knelt down to Emmit’s level. “ Can you look at me, little guy?” He lifts his head and I see his adorable face. Sandy blond short hair, dark green eyes, he little cheeks rosy from either running or the cold. “ I’m sorry for running into you.” Emmit said. “ Did you mean to run into me?” I asked. He shakes his rapidly. “ No, I promise,” he said. I smiled at him “ Then no harm done. Are you hurt?” “ No Luna,” he said. “ Good. And you can call me Lexi.” I told him. “ Oh no I can’t do that Luna.” he said in shock. I’m not going to push the issue.

I went to stand up when I heard a gasp from Emmit and Annette. “ Oh wow.” Emmit said, looking at me with awe. “ Luna, you are glowing,” he said. “ Does it frighten you? I promise it won’t hurt you.” I said. I didn’t want him to be scared. “ No, I’m not scared. This is so cool.” he said laughing. “ Steven, Max, Trystan. Come look at the glowing Luna.” he yelled. The next thing I know I’m surrounded by a dozen curious kids.I looked to Adien and Luther not sure what the right thing to do is. They just stood back smiling. So I guess everything was fine. One little girl with bright red hair similar to mine came up and asked “ Are you our Luna?” I looked to Luther for help. “ Future Luna, little one. Lexi is my mate.” he said with pride. The little girl smiles.

Another boy comes over “ Can I touch it?” I have never had anyone ask or try so I don’t know what will happen. “ Sure, but I think your hand will go through it.” I told him. That didn’t stop him or a few other kids from trying. They pushed their little hands through giggling saying that it tingled. This went on for several minutes before Annette said it was time to go in. It was followed by a chorus of disappointed ‘Awws.” After I promised to come back for a visit the kids went inside. Luther, Aiden and I followed close behind so Annette could give us a quick tour.
