Chapter 97
Lexi
I was at school today. I needed a little normal after my party,mating, shifting, and meeting with all the packs. Well as normal as you can get with three guards and Arya in my head. “ Lexi, keep your senses open. We are being watched.” Arya said. I don’t make it obvious as I look around. “ Jesse, Arya says I’m being watched.” I said. I linked Melissa,Isabelle and Jackson as well. The only one close to me was Isabelle. The rest were spread out but could get to me fast if they had to.
“ Clear on my end. Just people walking to class. Nothing is standing out.” Jackson said. “ I’ll do a sweep.” Melissa said. “ Go to class with Isabelle. We have you covered.” Jesse said. So that is what we did. Normally my guard would stand outside the class but today Isabelle came inside with me. I took a seat in the back with Isabell beside me. The professor gets to his podium and looks around. He points to Isabelle and asks “ Miss, are you in the right room?” “ I am.” Isabelle responds.
“ I don’t believe I have had you in my class before. And I didn’t get a notice of a new student so you need to leave.” Professor said. Isabelle stands up and looks at the professor. Isabelle can be majorly intimidating if you don’t know her. It is one of the things that makes her a good warrior. “ I’m assigned to protect Miss Lexi. I will not be going anywhere.” Isabelle said sternly before sitting back down. The professor stood there shocked for a minute before he composed himself. “ Yes, well. Fine.” he stuttered.
I held in my laugh but Arya didn’t. “ Isabelle showed him who is boss.” Arya laughed. “ Hush. I need to focus.” I said. “ I’ll be quiet.” Arya said. I swear she curled up in my mind and took a nap. I hope she doesn’t snore. About half way through the class I get a link from Jackson. “ I got something. I’m going to follow it for a bit. Stay close to Isabelle. I linked Melissa. She will be at the door when you get out of class.” he said. I linked Isabelle to tell her what Jackson said.
“ Focus on your class. I’m going to link Ryan and Tyler.” Isabelle said. I tried to focus but my mind kept going back to what Jackson said. “ Let them do their job. They have it under control. Whatever it is.” Arya said. “ I know but I’m still worried.” I said. I was half paying attention to the professor. “ It is fine to be worried. Just don’t let it take over.” Arya said. I know she is right. But it is hard. I feel a hand on my shoulder and look over. Isabelle gave me a squeeze and linked me. “ We have you my queen.” I smiled, “ Thanks, Belle.”
I go back to taking notes. By the time the class was done I was ready to run out of there. I still had one more class to go. This one with Standish and Jesse. I make sure to walk slowly beside Isabelle. Melissa is standing by the door. She pulls us off to the side. “ Lexi, Luther just pulled up. He brought a few warriors with him. They are going to check the grounds.” Melissa said. “ Melissa what is going on?” I asked. “ Luther is going to take you home. Jackson said he caught several scents like the day you met that guy that gave you the creeps. Jackson and the warriors are going to check it out. I’m going to follow you in wolf form.”
“ Shouldn’t I stay and help? And I have class.” I said. “ Jesse has already informed Standish. He is going to email you the notes. He agrees we need to get you to safety.” Melissa said. “ Ryan, just linked me. He is sending a few of our warriors to help with the search.” Isabelle. Before I could respond Ryan linked me. “ Honey, Go with Luther. I know you want to help but you need to let the warriors do their job. Your safety is of the utmost importance.” I wanted to pout because I didn’t like it but they were right.
“ Fine, but I don’t like it.” I said. I hear laughing and smelt Luther come up behind me. “ Come on baby. I will take you home and we will get you a snack. Ryan will meet us then we will go for a run.” he said. I turn to kiss his cheek. “ Give me a second.” I said. I linked Jesse, Jackson and Isabelle. “ Please be safe. Search but try not to engage. And report all findings so we can form a plan.” I said. I must have said with some authority or something because I got an automatic “ Yes, my queen.” from everyone. I think there were a few warriors in the link.
I walked with Melissa and Luther to his truck. Luther was glued to my side. Melissa was at our back on full alert. I could feel it. It was like an energy coming off not just Melissa but Luther as well. I know neither of them are going to relax until we are safely on pack lands. I kept quiet so they could focus. Even Arya was on alert. “ Are we good Arya?” I asked her. “ Yes, this area is clear. I have been able to talk to the warriors and Jackson’s wolf. The scent they are following is on the other side of the campus. Jackson picked it up near the science building.” she said.
Right where I was heading for class. I could have walked into a trap. Luther helped me into the truck. Melissa took off towards the woods to shift. Once Luther was in the truck we took off. He was driving a little faster than normal but that was fine. He was tense the whole drive. I kept looking out the window for anything out of place. Luckily nothing happened by the time we reached pack lands. As soon as we crossed the boundary I could see Luther visibly relax. He took a deep breath and his shoulders dropped.
I grabbed the hand that was close to me and rubbed my thumb over the top to help him. “ I’m safe now. You can let some of that tension go.” I said. Luther pulled up to the packhouse and parked. “ I will baby once I have you inside,” he said. He got out and I waited for him to come around. I did it to make him feel better. Luther put his arm around my waist as we walked to the door. It was yanked open to reveal a concerned Christine and Evan. Christine yanks me away from Luther and drags me inside. “ My sweet girl. Are you alright?” she asked.
“ I’m fine. My guardians did their job and got me to safety while they investigated.” I said. “ That’s good. Why don’t you put your books away and come get your snack.” she said. “ Will you tell Deb that Ryan is on his way so she can get something ready for him. Just in case.” I asked. “ Of course.” she said. “ Baby, I will meet you in the kitchen. I want to tell dad what we know so far.” Luther said. I nodded and headed to our room. So much for having a normal day.
