Chapter 197 The Eve of the Final Battle!
Alan smirked. "They want me to stop, but defeating me is difficult. Even if they somehow manage to kill me, it won't matter."
The leader in the black robe suddenly got it. "So, you're saying they'll kill me to cut off your reward, hoping you'll back off from attacking Starcity."
Alan nodded, grinning. "Exactly."
"Should we send the Nightwalker army?" the black-robed leader asked.
"Absolutely," Alan replied without hesitation. "Leona's got an army of 500,000 in Starcity. Without your Nightwalkers, I'd be in deep trouble taking them on alone."
He added, "Plus, Leona might start a national war, letting adventurers join the fight. That's a whole lot of trouble."
Alan thought to himself, 'If your Nightwalker army doesn't go, how can more lives be lost to help the God of the Undead recover?'
Even though the God of the Undead said his essence was wounded, the first-turn undead wouldn't help him recover. But if hundreds of thousands more die, it would still help somewhat. Besides, Nightwalkers themselves were not good beings. When Ragnarok merged with reality in the previous life, Nightwalkers killed many humans. So, Alan had no qualms about causing their deaths.
"That's true," the black-robed leader agreed, not doubting Alan's intentions. After all, Alan had already taken down the top ten Central Cities. Plus, he made a lot of sense.
"Let's go. I'll escort you back to the lair." Alan didn't use the Royal Portal. It was better to keep that a secret for now. Some things were best kept under wraps.
The journey was uneventful, and Alan escorted the black-robed leader to the lair's entrance. Alan was curious about the lair's interior and hoped for an invite, but it didn't come.
"Stay alive, black-robed leader," Alan reminded.
"For the great cause of the lair and the Nightwalkers, I will," the black-robed leader said seriously. "Ice King, I'll leave the attack on Starcity and my Nightwalker army to you."
Alan nodded with a smile. "Don't worry. Starcity will fall!"
Then Alan added, "Black-robed leader, I once trapped Leona with the Guardian Tower and almost killed her. But she used an ice-blue flag to teleport out. Do you have anything that can interrupt her teleportation?"
Leona was the new queen of Stellaria and a rare four-time job change archmage. Killing her would be a huge win. Among the four-time job changes, there were different ranks. Some were ordinary, some elite, and Leona was platinum. But even ordinary platinum four-time job change archmages weren't as strong as Leona because she was dual-element ice and fire. Plus, she was the queen of Stellaria.
Many thought strength was all about rank and level, like players' talents and levels. But Alan knew better; among NPCs, status mattered too. For instance, the black-robed leader, as the lair leader, had reached gold level through three job changes and was stronger than typical gold-level individuals because of his status.
Leona was no different.
Taking down King Rex had brought in a ton of rewards, so taking out Leona would be even sweeter.
Plus, Alan had a personal score to settle with her.
If he didn't kill Leona, he'd never feel right.
The black-robed leader hesitated, thinking about how terrifying Leona was, but he eventually pulled out an ice-blue talisman from his robe.
The talisman was palm-sized, covered in strange runes.
[Seastop Glyph: Special item.]
[Effect: When activated, it prevents teleportation and movement within a kilometer radius for five minutes.]
[Note: This is a one-time-use item and will be destroyed after use.]
Alan raised an eyebrow. This thing looked like it had ties to the Sea God.
This black-robed leader was full of surprises. The leaf from the Tree of Knowledge he had earlier came from the Palace of Infinity in the Vast Empire.
Now this Seastop Glyph could lock down a space for five minutes, stopping even movement skills.
From Alan's guess, this thing was probably linked to the Sea God.
Besides the God of the Undead and the Ice and Snow Goddess, was there a third deity in Stellaria?
Alan wasn't sure, but it seemed unlikely.
The leaf from the Tree of Knowledge wasn't from Stellaria, and this Seastop Glyph might not be either.
"Alright, wait for my good news." Alan took the Seastop Glyph and left.
Not long after he left, a black mist emerged from the lair, and a low, hoarse voice came from the mist. "Master, the Ice King is hard to control. If this keeps up, he might mess up your grand plan."
"Leona is a prime example," the black-robed leader's voice changed, no longer dull but now gentle and scholarly.
"A pawn?" The black-robed leader said. "If you think that way, you'll end up like Leona. She treated the Ice King as a pawn, and now her kingdom's on the brink of destruction."
The black-robed leader's voice turned serious, "The Ice King might be a game-changer. My father sensed a looming catastrophe. Not just small fries like us, but even those with eight or nine job changes might fall in large numbers."
The person in the black mist was silent for a moment before asking, "What should we do next?"
"Let the Ice King take down Stellaria. I think he's after the gods' blessings for another reason, which might align with our goals," the black-robed leader said.
In Starcity, Stellaria's experts gathered, and an army of 500,000 was ready.
Players in Starcity were also being asked to leave one by one.
In the past, they would've been kicked out.
Given Stellaria's current situation, they needed the players to join the fight.
The battle for Stellaria's survival was about to begin.
At the palace of Starcity, Andrew said respectfully, "Your Majesty, everything is ready. We're just waiting for the Ice King to arrive and start the final battle."
Leona stood up abruptly. "The country is at a critical moment. I must admit that it is my arrogance that led to this mess. But now that we're here, let me end this war!"
