Chapter 274 Return to the Hall of Glory
Alan stashed away the God-Slaying Sword Formation and glanced at the knocked-out Lysander, telling Orlando to carry him.
"Let's roll." Alan then gathered up Elowen, the other undead, and the Sea God, using the Royal Portal to head back to the Sea God Temple with Orlando lugging Lysander.
Once they got back, Alan handed Lysander over to the folks at the Sea God Temple. He didn't bounce right away; he stuck around until Lysander came to.
Lysander was a straight shooter. If Alan had bailed and Lysander got offed while he was out cold, Alan would catch the blame. After all, such internal conflicts within this kind of power were inevitable.
That was why Alan really appreciated Leif's rock-solid loyalty on this mission. In his crew, while the outer circle folks were one thing, the core members had to be totally reliable. Otherwise, they'd just stay on the fringes.
Like the Diaz Family, who'd been with his Lone Ranger Guild for a while. But Alan never saw them as core members. Even though their archery was top-notch and some Diaz folks had really stepped up. Alan still didn't give them the big jobs or resources.
Using the Royal Portal, Alan zipped back to the Hall of Glory. As soon as he got there, Alan felt something was off.
"Leif, call out your new temple master. We want to know if your new temple master has the same god-slaying chops as your old one." A snarky female voice rang out.
Alan peeked through the slightly open door of the hall and saw a bunch of people in the central square of the Hall of Glory. One group was led by Leif.
The woman who had just spoken had her hair up and a sultry look. Her words were dripping with sarcasm, and her eyes were full of challenge. Behind her were about a dozen female disciples with great figures.
"Ayla, don't push it. The beef between the Hall of Glory and your crew was squashed ages ago. Why are you still here causing trouble?" Leif yelled, clearly pissed and worried.
If their temple master was a total badass, even on Ayla's level, it would be cool. But the truth was, their temple master was a newbie. A total rookie! Not only was he unfit to lead a sacred place, but he'd also be a joke on the streets.
Ayla covered her mouth and giggled. "Leif, what are you talking about? The Hall of Glory is back and has a new temple master. Is there a problem with us from Icefire Los Island dropping by? I know the Palace of Infinity visited recently. Why didn't you get mad then?"
Leif, gritting his teeth, said, "They left after their visit, but you're still here bugging us."
Hearing this, Ayla smiled seductively. "Oh, I was also smitten by the old temple master's heroic vibe. If he hadn't been so rebellious and hell-bent on slaying gods, maybe we could've had a beautiful story. Now that the Hall of Glory has a new temple master, of course, I want to make connections."
Leif sneered. He saw right through her. Today, Ayla was testing the Hall of Glory. The reason she hadn't completely blown off their relationship was that they were scared too, scared that the new temple master might be just as powerful as the old one, capable of slaying gods.
If that were the case, in this era where gods were MIA, someone with god-slaying power could do whatever they wanted and even wreck their sacred place if they felt like it. Her visit this time was to test the new temple master's strength.
"Leif, as the master of a sacred place, I personally came to visit. Is your new temple master not coming out to meet us? Are you looking down on Icefire Los Island?" Ayla's tone shifted, and her aura got heavier, pressing down on Leif.
Leif's face went pale. He was a nine-time professional star-level, pretty strong, but still way weaker compared to Ayla, the master of a sacred place.
Plus, he was still banged up from the fight to defend the Hall of Glory and hadn't fully recovered, with his strength at less than sixty percent of his peak. In his current state, he might not even be able to put up a fight against Ayla. "I already said, our temple master isn't in the hall. If you have business, come back another day."
Ayla took a step forward, her eyes locked on Leif. "What if I insist on seeing your new temple master today?" As she spoke, Ayla's aura got even stronger, with the laws of ice and fire swirling around her, ready to throw down at any moment.
"Ayla, what are you trying to do? Start a sacred place war?" Leif shouted angrily. He knew that the Hall of Glory couldn't compete with Icefire Los Island right now. But he couldn't lose face. If he showed fear, Ayla would definitely think their new temple master was weak.
Ayla sneered, "The Hall of Glory's glory is long gone. Now, you're just a bunch of leftovers. Even if we go to war, Icefire Los Island can easily wipe out the Hall of Glory."
Leif didn't back down and shot back, "Wipe out the Hall of Glory? Big talk. If it were just us, we wouldn't stand a chance against Icefire Los Island. But our new temple master alone is enough to sweep all of you from Icefire Los Island!" Leif spoke with confidence, as if Alan were truly a peerless expert.
Ayla got suspicious. She hadn't made a move yet because she needed to know what the new temple master of the Hall of Glory was capable of. "If that's the case, then I must meet your new temple master."
Just as she finished speaking, a hearty laugh echoed. "Ayla, you're still as thick-skinned as ever. If they don't want to see you, just leave. Why are you being so clingy?" As the laughter echoed, Lachlan walked in.
Seeing the tall Lachlan, Leif breathed a sigh of relief. Facing Ayla and the other sacred place experts alone was really stressful. "Lachlan!"
Ayla's lips curled slightly, showing no surprise at Lachlan's appearance. "Lachlan, are you here to join the fun too?"
Lachlan grinned and said, "Why not? I was good friends with the old temple master of the Hall of Glory. Now that the Hall of Glory is back, I naturally came to offer my congratulations. Is there a problem?"
Ayla tapped her foot lightly and appeared beside Lachlan in the blink of an eye. "If you're here to congratulate, leave your gift and go. Some fun is better left alone."
