Chapter 241 First Encounter with Kenneth
Cape Iron Mine was one of the big three iron mines in Chaos Territory, making up over a quarter of the iron ore supply. Blood Crow Tower had it under their thumb now.
Ever since Blood Crow Tower took over, they hadn't sold any ore to outsiders. This ticked off a lot of merchants and blacksmiths.
But, when it came to Blood Crow Tower, all they could do was grumble and keep their mouths shut.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Alan showed up outside Cape Mine.
A bunch of undead popped up, including Leona and Orlando, two top-tier platinum-level fighters who'd gone through four job changes.
"Alright, let's take this mine," Alan ordered. Leona, Orlando, and the undead army charged at Cape Mine.
Cape Mine had some defenders, but they were just two gold-level warriors with three job changes. They were no match for Leona and Orlando.
In less than half an hour, the fight was over, and Alan's undead army had taken over Cape Mine.
"Start mining," Alan said. His plan was simple: get the undead to do the mining.
The undead emperor crab, which Alan had killed earlier, handled transportation. The miners at Cape Mine did the digging, and the mining speed was off the charts.
The technique Alan acquired by slaying the God of the Undead was extraordinarily potent. He could enslave up to a million troops, even if it only lasted a month. But that wasn't a big deal. He could just keep hunting to replenish his undead army.
Meanwhile, Theron Blackwell, the boss of Blood Crow Tower, was sipping tea.
Suddenly, someone rushed in, knelt at the door, and said urgently, "Mr. Blackwell, we've lost Cape Mine."
Theron's teacup hit the floor and shattered. "Who did it? The Sinclair Family? The Ashford Family? Or maybe the Sea God Temple?"
The guy shook his head. "None of them, Mr. Blackwell. The message only had several words."
"What?" Theron asked.
"Undead, Lone Sword!"
"Undead?" Theron's face darkened. "We don't have undead in Chaos Territory, but Netherland does. Could it be..."
Theron had a bad feeling.
Netherland and Chaos Territory had been chill for years. If Netherland wanted to stir things up in Chaos Territory, it would mess up his plans.
"Lone Sword? Orlando Lone Sword just got back. Could he be working with Netherland?" Theron thought about a lot of things. "You can go now. I get the situation at Cape Mine."
After the guy left, someone appeared behind Theron.
"Master." Theron bowed respectfully.
The newcomer waved his hand. "Don't rush. It's not too late to find out who did this. From what I know, when the Ice King wiped out the Rainfield Family, a lot of undead showed up too."
Hearing this, Theron perked up. "Master, are you saying the Ice King hit Cape Mine?"
"It is not entirely impossible. Hasn't he come to see you twice already? Do you think shutting him out will stop him? If he were that easy to handle, Stellaria wouldn't have fallen."
Theron's face got serious. "What should we do then?"
The person thought for a moment and said, "I want you to meet him, make a small compromise. When he heads to the Vast Continent someday, all this trouble will sort itself out."
Theron was taken aback. "Master, the Ice King destroyed Stellaria, and you're just gonna let him off the hook?"
The person sneered, "Stellaria's fall was on Leona and my elder brother for being too stubborn, thinking they could take on the Ice King. Even if they could beat him, so what? Even if you were to kill him ten times, a hundred times, it would be of no avail. With someone like the Ice King, the best move is to not piss him off and just send him on his way."
Theron nodded. "So, what do we do?"
"Go meet him now. No, scratch that, I'll go myself. I can't risk you offending him and making things worse."
Theron felt a mix of amusement and helplessness, realizing he was being underestimated.
Meanwhile, Alan was checking out his skills at Cape Mine.
He'd picked up a cool skill from the Two-Headed Bloodscale Crocodile: Devouring the Sea to Rejuvenate.
At first, Alan thought it was just another ordinary skill, but the description caught his eye.
[Devouring the Sea to Rejuvenate: 1 star.
[Requirements: Warrior, sea beast-type pet, sea beast-type mount.]
[Effect: Swallow a mouthful of seawater to restore ten percent of your health.]
[Cost: 500 MP.]
[Cooldown: 12 hours.]
[Proficiency: 0/100.]
This skill, like A Withered Tree Springing to Life Again, restored a percentage of health. But while A Withered Tree Springing to Life Again was passive, this one was active.
In terms of power, Devouring the Sea to Rejuvenate wasn't as good as A Withered Tree Springing to Life Again. It needed seawater and used up MP.
Even though it wasn't as strong, it was still a solid skill for Alan.
Percentage-based healing skills were rare. Alan had found many skill books, but this was only the second time he'd come across a percentage-based healing skill.
After collecting his thoughts, Alan headed back to Blood Crow Ancient City and walked into his old inn.
Not long after, a waiter's voice came from outside. "Sir, there's a guest here to see you."
Alan thought, 'Looks like Blood Crow Tower isn't wasting any time.'
"Let him in," Alan said.
The door opened, and a middle-aged man who looked a lot like Rex walked in.
"Kenneth?" Alan was surprised. He thought the head of Blood Crow Tower would come, but it turned out to be Kenneth.
"Yeah, it's me." Kenneth shook his head with a bitter smile. "I heard you were looking for me. What do you need?"
"I destroyed Stellaria. Don't you hate me?" Alan asked.
"Hate? No, that's just how this world works: survival of the fittest. Stellaria fell because it was too weak."
Alan shook his head. "You don't sound very convincing."
"Doesn't matter. What matters is I really don't want to be your enemy," Kenneth said sincerely. "Ice King, just tell me what you need."
Alan said, "Two things. First, I know Blood Crow Tower has a fragment of Silver-Eyed Nicholas's tentacle. Can you give it to me? Second, I want the pre-quest scroll of the gods' blessings. We can negotiate the terms of the quest."
