Chapter 290 The Beast Tide Strikes!
"One million gold coins."
Lysander waved his hand, "Ice King, I'm really not that kind of person."
"Ten million gold coins."
"Ice King, if you keep pushing, I'm gonna get pissed," Lysander said, putting on a stern face.
Alan squinted his eyes slightly. Was this Lysander being greedy, or was his information really worth that much?
Without missing a beat, Alan upped the ante. "One billion gold coins!"
Lysander was momentarily stunned, then broke into a grin. "Ice King, gotta admit, you've got a knack for reading people."
"Spill it. What else do you know?"
"First off, Silver-Eyed Nicholas's soul has already left his body. It's now a divine remnant, possessing the leader of the Cult of the Divine Sheep. His goal is to wipe out the Mountain and Sea Empire and the Hall of Glory, and carve out a new holy land."
Alan took a deep breath. No wonder one of Octavius's pre-mission scrolls for the Gods' Blessing had tasked him with protecting the Mountain and Sea Empire.
At the time, he'd been confused. Where did Netherland and the Oceanus Kingdom even get the guts to take on the Mountain and Sea Empire?
The Mountain and Sea Empire is the real deal—a place for nine-time job changers, not something your average Joe can mess with.
Even when other holy lands had their sights on the Hall of Glory last time, they didn't jump straight into war—they tested the waters first.
Divine possession?
That's a whole other level of trouble.
He's got the Sea God on his side, and if he goes all out, he can handle an ordinary divine possession without breaking a sweat.
But once both sides' divine powers hit a certain threshold, Ragnarok's rules will inevitably step in.
After all, gods at this stage are way too OP.
Even if it's just divine possession, if they start throwing their weight around, it'll throw the whole game balance out of whack.
"Plus, the intel I've got says they're hitting the city tonight."
Alan snapped, "Why the hell didn't you say so earlier?"
"Relax. To kickstart the revival of the Mountain and Sea Empire quest, you need to go to the Aeldias secret realm. Find Aeldias, and you're golden."
Alan waved his hand, "Got it."
Mountain and Sea Empire.
Nightfall came, and the wilderness was pitch black.
Sunset Town.
Although it was still brightly lit, it was no longer as lively as before.
Under the cover of night, glowing eyes flickered around Sunset Town.
A guard, leaning on his spear in a corner, was half-asleep when a Wind Source Demon Wolf lunged, its jaws clamping down on his neck.
The guard's throat was ripped apart.
Critical hit!
-10258!
Bleeding!
-1958.
-1921.
Damage numbers popped up one after another as more Wind Source Demon Wolves closed in.
The number of Wind Source Demon Wolves appearing increased.
"Beast tide! Someone get over here, now!" A guard freaked out and hollered at the top of his lungs.
A swarm of guards rushed out, clashing with the Wind Source Demon Wolves.
But there were just too many of them—holding the line was a nightmare.
"Town-wide alert: Sunset Town's under a beast tide attack. All adventurers, grab your weapons and fight back. Generous rewards for anyone who takes down the wild monsters."
After stepping out of the Sea God Temple, Alan got a message from Blade Warrior: "Ice King, a beast tide just hit Sunset Town—it's brutal. I think someone's pulling the strings, aiming to wipe out the town."
"Got it."
Alan took a step, and in the blink of an eye, he was at Sunset Town's entrance.
A large number of wild monsters rushed towards him, as if wanting to tear him apart.
Alan's eyes narrowed, and he raised his hand, unleashing a barrage of arrows.
"Undead army."
With a command, a large number of undead appeared.
Sure, the enslaved undead only lasted a month, so heavy hitters like Leona and Elowen were gone. The numbers had dropped, but Alan could beef up the ranks and quality by taking out monsters himself.
In a flash, he'd wiped out hundreds of wild beasts, adding them to his undead crew.
On a small hill outside Sunset Town, two figures stood.
One was the ghost-faced masked man Alan had taken down before. Next to him was a level 98 archer—a serious powerhouse at this stage.
"You sure about this? You know attacking a town's a major crime if we get caught," the masked guy asked.
The archer replied without hesitation, "Blade Warrior snatched that pre-mission scroll for the gods' blessing from me. I'm not about to hand my shot over to Ice King. Take down Sunset Town, and his scroll's toast."
Upon hearing that, the ghost-faced masked man's eyes turned icy. "Ice King, you flexed your awakened talent on me. Starting today, I'll make sure you live in fear—my kind of fear."
Next to the ghost-faced man, a Wind Source Demon Wolf leader with blood-red eyes was breathing hard, like it was barely holding back its fury.
If you looked closely, you'd notice weird waves radiating from the ghost-faced mask in every direction.
The wild monsters caught in those waves went berserk.
"Go on, rip apart every guard in Sunset Town. Turn the place into your hunting ground!" the ghost-faced man smirked, satisfied. The idea of screwing up Alan's pre-mission scrolls of the Gods' Blessing lit him up.
The memory of being slaughtered a hundred times at the fountain? Gone.
But then, the ghost-faced man sensed something off.
The sounds of battle from Sunset Town were fading fast.
Even the Wind Source Demon Wolf leader that had just charged in had gone quiet.
"What the hell's going on?" the ghost-faced man muttered, his face darkening. "Sunset Town doesn't have any heavy hitters. Their guard captain's weaker than you."
As he tried to figure it out, he saw a swarm of undead turning the tide, pushing back hard.
And the Wind Source Demon Wolf leader he had just sent was among them.
"What the hell is this?" the ghost-faced man shouted, furious.
He even tried using his ghost-faced mask to control the undead army, but it was useless. He had no choice but to bolt.
Back in Sunset Town, not many buildings were wrecked, but the guards took a brutal hit.
The beast tide hit hard and fast, smashing through the defenses before anyone could blink.
The mayor of Sunset Town, Albert, a middle-aged guy with a sharp nose, rushed over, still yanking up his pants.
As the strongest guy in town, he'd somehow managed to sit this one out.
"What the hell happened? Where'd this beast wave come from? You idiots, how'd you let this happen?"
The second he showed up, he was already screaming, pointing at the wounded guards and tearing into them.
