Chapter 218 Cressida's Plea!
[Congrats, your Purification Amulet just leveled up.]
Alan took a look. The amulet's control and negative effect reduction bumped up by one percent, now sitting at ninety-one percent.
Just as he figured, once it hit ninety percent, the boost from the evolution scroll wasn't as big.
But Alan didn't mind. As long as he kept leveling up, he'd eventually be immune to control.
Right then, someone knocked on the VIP room door. A soft voice said, "The Sterling Family's Cressida requests to see you, sir."
Alan raised an eyebrow.
'Is this a new plot twist?'
He motioned for the maid to open the door.
When the door swung open, a woman with long pink hair and delicate features stepped in.
Cressida immediately dropped to her knees before Alan. "Please, sir, help us. The Sterling Family is in trouble. I'm willing to serve as your maid."
Alan looked at her, and her stats popped up.
[Cressida (Iron): Level 59.]
[Health: 612580/612580.]
[Attack: 2985.]
[Skills: Fireball, Great Fireball, Chain Fireball, Explosive Fireball, Protective Fireball, Healing Fireball.]
Alan was surprised she was a fireball user.
He glanced down and couldn't help but notice her impressive chest.
Alan cleared his throat and said, "Do you think I'm that kind of guy?"
Cressida panicked and kowtowed. "I don't dare. I have nothing valuable to offer to make you act."
Alan waved his hand. "I'm busy with my own stuff. I don't have time for your family's issues."
Cressida looked desperate. She pulled out a scroll from her bosom. "Sir, I really have nothing else. You might not need this equipment evolution scroll, but I hope you can help the Sterling Family."
Alan's eyes narrowed. It was indeed an equipment evolution scroll.
He coughed and took the scroll. "It's pretty basic, but since you're sincere, tell me, what's the problem?"
Cressida brightened up. "Sir, our family found a blue crystal vein. It should be good news, but we can't protect it. The Ashbourne Family wants to destroy us and take the vein."
She added, "If you help us, besides the scroll, we'll offer you ninety percent of the blue crystals."
Alan's eyes narrowed. 'The Ashbourne Family? Leander? This could be interesting.'
In a chaotic place, grabbing wealth by force was common.
Alan said, "That's easy. I'll visit the Ashbourne Family and talk to them. I'm sure they'll back off."
"Thank you, sir," Cressida said excitedly. With someone as powerful as Alan on her side, she was sure the Ashbourne Family wouldn't dare make a move.
"Head back for now. I have some things to handle in the city," Alan said.
Cressida nodded. "Okay."
After she left, Alan used the equipment evolution scroll again.
[You used the equipment evolution scroll on the Purification Amulet. Your equipment, the Purification Amulet, is evolving...]
[I am sorry. Your Purification Amulet evolution failed.]
Alan was stunned. 'Seriously? It failed at ninety-one percent? If it had to fail, shouldn't it be at ninety-nine point nine percent?'
He felt a bit helpless. Failing at this level was common, but it was still a bummer.
Despite the failure, Alan had principles. He promised Cressida, so he'd still visit the Ashbourne Family.
But first, he wanted to deal with the person in Room Two. 'Raising the price, huh? I'll show him something even more fun.'
In Room 2, Peregrine felt uneasy, sensing something bad was about to happen. But he didn't care; he was waiting for Alan.
Alan waited for a while, but no one from Room 2 came out, making him frown.
Just then, someone else arrived. "Hello, Our Siren Guild's boss wants to meet you."
It was the old man with the goatee.
"Come in," Alan said calmly.
The door opened, and Ambrose walked in.
Their eyes met.
Ambrose looked surprised. "So it's you, sir."
Alan got straight to the point. "What do you need from me?"
Ambrose smiled wryly. "A powerful sea beast has appeared near our Siren's Slumber Isle. I wanted to ask for your help."
Alan smiled, feeling Ambrose wasn't trustworthy. "What's in it for me?"
Ambrose replied, "That depends on what you want."
"Pre-God's Blessing quest scroll, God-level talent awakening stone, all are possible," Alan said.
Ambrose's mouth twitched. "Do you want the Pre-God's Blessing quest scroll? Is that why you want to see our island master?"
It wasn't a secret that the island master of Siren's Slumber Isle had the Pre-God's Blessing quest scroll.
Alan replied calmly, "Sort of."
Ambrose shook his head. "If that's the case, you might be disappointed. The Pre-God's Blessing quest scroll is extremely precious to our island master. He wouldn't give it to anyone without special circumstances."
Alan, unfazed, smiled. "Well, it's worth a try, isn't it? I might really be able to help your island master."
Ambrose shook his head. "I'm sincerely inviting you to help deal with the sea beast. If you want those two items, I can't afford to hire you."
"Killing a sea beast doesn't require such precious items. How about an equipment evolution scroll?" Alan didn't expect to get the Pre-God's Blessing quest scroll so easily.
After all, if it weren't for Percival's request coinciding with Alan's needs, he wouldn't have easily obtained the Pre-God's Blessing quest scroll from him.
