Chapter 244 Hunting Sea Beasts
From the moment Alan set foot in Chaos Territory, things were a mix of smooth sailing and rough patches.
Alan knew about six pre-quest scrolls of the gods' blessings in Chaos Territory. They were held by Percival, Cassius (the island master of Siren's Slumber Isle), Dashiell (the Sea God Temple Lord), and Kenneth.
Out of these six, Alan had already snagged four and finished Percival's pre-quest scroll, scoring a blessing from the gods of the Jinse Empire.
With five more to go, he just needed one more to hit the ten blessings mark, which would revive the ancient Jinse Empire. Plus, he'd unlock a super-god-level hidden profession from Billy.
Then it hit him—he might've missed something big.
He thought, 'How did Percival get a pre-quest scroll of the gods' blessings? When I first came from Stellaria, I judged Percival by Stellaria's standards. A top-tier golden-level necromancer with three job changes having a pre-quest scroll seemed legit.'
'But Chaos Territory has platinum-level forces with four job changes. If Percival's scroll was a secret, maybe others didn't know. But both Leander and the rival Rainfield Family know. Wouldn't a golden-level force with four job changes go after the Rainfield Family?'
'At the very least, those platinum-level forces wouldn't just chill. So, what makes Percival confident enough to flaunt his pre-quest scroll?'
Alan felt like he was onto something but couldn't quite pin it down. If he was right, it was scary. The mastermind behind this was way more powerful than he thought.
Percival's pre-quest scroll was given to him on purpose. When Alan was in Stellaria and killed the God of the Undead, there was a server-wide announcement.
Even though he hid his nickname, high-level players and top-tier NPCs could guess it was him. After defeating the God of the Undead, he must've had undead materials on him.
So, Percival's request was a setup. It was meant to make Alan drop his guard in Chaos Territory.
Normally, if you came to Chaos Territory and scored something, you wouldn't think anything was off. But Alan wasn't just anyone.
He'd survived five years of life-and-death struggles during the cataclysm. When survival and big gains were on the line, people often showed their true colors. Each time was a test of human nature.
That's why Alan trusted James and Robert so much. Few people kept their original intentions after the cataclysm. But they did, so Alan was willing to help them without holding back.
Even if they sometimes guessed he had foresight, he didn't care. People who stayed true to themselves in life-and-death situations wouldn't be swayed by minor interests.
And the facts backed it up. The bounty from the Cox Group had been out for ages, yet he was still fine. If something was gonna happen, it would've happened by now.
These were just theories for now, but to get to the bottom of it, Alan had to dig in himself. First up was the Ashbourne Family, then the family of that red-bearded old man. His crew was one of the few with three job changes at the golden level in Chaos Territory, so they wouldn't be hard to track down. But if Alan's hunch was right, finding them wouldn't solve anything.
So, he had another plan: get Cassius to level 500.
Normally, even with Alan's crazy hunting speed, that would be a tall order. But he had a trick up his sleeve—enslaving the undead. He needed to find out who was pulling the strings.
Alan ditched the idea of having the undead mine and sent them out to hunt level 100 wild monsters to rack up as many free attribute points as possible.
As for himself, he dove into the ocean. He aimed to hunt level 100 sea beasts.
Thanks to the second job change area, sea beasts were generally around level 100. Rare ones like the Two-Headed Bloodscale Crocodile were exceptions.
Alan had the Son of the Sea title, making ocean hunting a breeze.
With the Two-Headed Bloodscale Crocodile's help, Alan quickly took down many sea beasts, and his army of enslaved sea beasts grew.
The Sinclair Family.
Cassius suddenly opened his eyes, surprise flickering in them. In less than an hour, he had hit level 201.
This leveling speed was insane. Cassius could only gain experience by killing bosses now. since his level was way higher than the bosses, he got just a tiny bit of experience from them. But now, he had leveled up in under an hour.
Even with the experience piled up from the Two-Headed Bloodscale Crocodile, the Sea God Temple's elder, and Orlando, this speed was off the charts.
But his leveling didn't stop, and the sound of gaining experience kept ringing in his ears. After another five hours, he was at level 205. This speed was making him antsy.
"Chief," Cassius said, heading to see his leader.
The young-looking boy didn't look up, still focused on his painting. "What's up?"
"I leveled up," Cassius said seriously.
"Isn't that expected? With Ice King's power, leveling you up a few times isn't hard."
Then the boy's tone shifted. "But if he thinks he can get you to level 500, he's dreaming. In the end, he'll have to go to Sea God Island for some god-slaying to get you there quickly."
Cassius smiled bitterly. "Chief, it's not like that. In just over five hours, I've leveled up five times."
"What?" The boy looked up, shocked. "In just over five hours, you leveled up five times?"
"Yeah, otherwise, why would I bother you?" Cassius looked troubled, like leveling up was a bad thing.
"Interesting, keep an eye on it."
"Chief, we need a plan fast. My experience gain rate is speeding up. At this rate, I might hit level 500 in less than half a month."
"How is that possible?" The boy was incredulous. "The higher the level, the harder it is to level up. How can it get faster?"
"I don't know, but that's what's happening," Cassius said helplessly.
