Chapter 66 Leona's Reward
Alan feigned intrigue, saying, "That sounds pretty good."
"Wait." Alan looked at Barbara. "When can you fulfill this promise?"
"When Princess Lisa ascends to become the new king," Barbara replied.
Alan shook his head without hesitation. "According to what you're saying, I have no idea how long that will take."
Hearing this, Barbara pondered for a moment. "Leona is the ultimate reward. As long as you help this time, I can reward you with a set of bronze-level equipment suitable for an archer."
"That's it? I can totally grind for that myself."
Barbara was taken aback. When put that way, it did seem true. With Alan's current abilities, getting a set of level 20 bronze equipment wasn't a difficult task.
"So what do you want? Free attribute points?"
Alan grinned. "I want mobility skills, special equipment, and special skills."
"Mobility skill." Barbara thought for a moment before saying, "Alright, as long as you help, I'll give you a skill called Space Blink. No casting time, instant release, and for a one-star skill, the maximum distance is 50 feet."
Alan raised an eyebrow; this skill sounded pretty good.
"Plus two hundred free attribute points," Alan added.
Barbara frowned. "This is just one task. It benefits you without any downside. Space Blink is already very valuable."
"Then forget it, I'll keep grinding."
Alan didn't even entertain further discussion and flatly refused.
"Wait." Barbara pondered for a moment. "One hundred free attribute points plus Space Blink."
"Two hundred."
"One hundred twenty."
"Two hundred."
"One hundred fifty."
"Then there's nothing to discuss," Alan said.
Barbara's face darkened. "Fine, then there's nothing to discuss. I'll send you to the Revival Altar for a bath."
With that, an extremely terrifying aura erupted from Barbara.
Alan's first reaction was to put away his equipment and then smile at Barbara.
"We can resolve this through dialogue. No need for violence."
"So you're agreeing?" Barbara asked.
Alan shook his head. "No, what I mean is three hundred free attribute points, not one less."
"You're courting death!" Barbara's gaze was as sharp as a knife, staring at Alan like a demon ready to devour him.
Alan showed no fear and coldly stared back at Barbara.
"You can kill me, but if I die here, I guarantee that the Queen's dealings with the Netherworld clan will reverberate across Stellaria."
Upon hearing this, Barbara's expression changed dramatically. Her aura didn't recede; instead, it became even colder.
"No one will believe the words of a criminal like you."
Alan shrugged indifferently. "I don't know. Anyway, I don't lack gold coins. I can make it echo three times a day."
"Aren't you afraid of being permanently imprisoned?" Barbara shouted angrily.
"Do you dare?" Alan disdainfully pushed Barbara away. "I haven't killed anyone in Central City. Such slander would merely warrant my detainment for a few days at most."
"But if the King hears it, I wonder what will happen to your Queen."
"And if I'm not mistaken, it was your Queen who sent Silver Commander Otis to kill me, right?"
At this point, Alan changed the subject.
"If it weren't for the Silver Commander's issue, I could agree to even a hundred free attribute points, let alone one hundred fifty."
"But because of the Silver Commander, three hundred free attribute points, not one less!"
Alan was employing both threats and incentives. He didn't aspire to intimidate Barbara; instead, he wanted to get enough benefits from her.
"What do you say, Barbara?"
Barbara took a deep breath and finally nodded heavily. "Fine, we'll do it your way."
[Barbara has issued you a quest: Frame Leona. Do you accept?]
[Quest requirement: Tell the King that you helped Leona kill the Demon King's son, Grelorin.]
[Quest penalty: None.]
[Quest reward: Space Blink, three hundred free attribute points.]
"Accept."
Alan accepted the quest and asked, "When do we go?"
"Tonight. I'll notify you then."
"Alright."
After sending Barbara off, Alan finally breathed a sigh of relief. Negotiating with such a powerful person was risky, but the outcome was good.
He had succeeded. Using the Queen's secret dealings with the Netherworld clan, he had successfully made Barbara compromise.
Not long after Barbara left, a graceful figure approached slowly.
"Leona, you're finally here."
"I've been here for a while. It looks like you reached some agreement with Barbara," Leona said, her tone somewhat serious.
Alan didn't hide anything. "Where's my reward for helping you kill Grelorin?"
"First, tell me what Barbara wanted from you just now," Leona said.
"Not giving it to me? Then I'll go tell the King that you collaborated with a notorious criminal like me to kill Grelorin."
Leona's face darkened. "I've never seen someone as shameless as you!"
Alan grinned. "Hand it over."
Leona took out a scroll, a skill book, and a rune.
"Just this?"
"I carefully selected these; they are very suitable for you," Leona said, annoyed.
[Eternal Scroll (Special): One-time use item.]
[Effect: Can enchant a piece of equipment, making it permanently bound to the user, indestructible, unstealable, and undroppable.]
Alan's eyes lit up.
This Eternal Scroll was definitely an auxiliary artifact. In the game phase, some precious equipment could easily be dropped if killed. This Eternal Scroll could effectively prevent that. Moreover, it made the equipment indestructible.
Alan promptly contemplated the Bloodthirsty Necklace. There was no other reason; the Bloodthirsty Necklace was just too compatible with him.
As for getting a better necklace later? With Alan's ten years of experience from his previous life, it was almost impossible. Equipment that restored a percentage of maximum health was powerful at any stage.
However, Alan didn't rush. He checked the second item.
[Frost Wing: One-star.]
[Effect: Can conjure a pair of frost wings, allowing you to fly briefly for five minutes.]
[Cost: 300.]
[Cooldown: 60 minutes.]
[Proficiency: 0/100.]
Alan raised an eyebrow in surprise. A flying skill was indeed very powerful.
Within level fifty, it was rare to encounter flying monsters. Even in the later stages of the game, there were few flying monsters.
However, with a flying skill, he could quickly escape the battlefield if outmatched. It was indeed a very good skill.
Finally, there was the rune.
