Chapter 38 The Battle Began

[You've landed the first kill of the Drunkard. A server-wide announcement is about to be made. Do you want to hide your name?]

"No."

[Server-wide announcement: Congratulations to player Ice King for making the first kill of the Drunkard. This is a special announcement, and we hope all players will continue to strive for excellence!]

[Server-wide announcement: Congratulations to player Ice King for making the first kill of the Drunkard. This is a special announcement, and we hope all players will continue to strive for excellence!]

Two consecutive server-wide announcements rang out.

Walter, who had been feeling down, suddenly became excited.

Killing two bosses in a row, wasn't that impressive? Shouldn't he go and refute Christopher properly?

Walter: [@Christopher, what do you have to say now? Ice King managed to complete two first kills in a short time. Just one question: who else can do that?]

Walter: [In your own words, this alone proves what I said earlier: Ice King's previous level drop was just a mistake!]

Christopher wasn't discouraged by Alan's sudden double boss kills.

He responded shortly after Walter's post.

Christopher: [Killing two bosses with no real value doesn't prove anything. All signs indicate that Ice King is still in the newbie village.]

Christopher: [Killing two bosses in the newbie village at this stage is not worth bragging about.]

Another round of online clashes began.

But Alan, the instigator, was completely unaware.

After killing the green python and the Drunkard, he chose to pick up the items dropped by the NPC.

[You have obtained Skill Book +2.]

[You have obtained Equipment +3.]

[You have obtained a special item: Golden Rune.]

[You have obtained a special item: Wine Flask.]

[You have obtained Gold Coins +10.]

The rewards weren't particularly generous.

Alan looked at the skills and equipment, which weren't better than what he already had, so there was nothing he could use.

Then Alan turned his attention to the Golden Rune and the Wine Flask.

[Golden Rune: Special Item.]

[Effect: When activated, grants a Golden Light Shield, Magic Defense +100, Physical Defense +300, duration five minutes.]

[Note: Single-use consumable.]

[Wine Flask: Special Item.]

[Effect: Collect valuable materials and place them inside to automatically brew special wines, which can provide free attribute points, temporary buffs, etc.]

[Note: The more valuable the materials, the better the wine produced.]

Alan's eyes lit up.

The Golden Rune was quite ordinary for him.

But the Wine Flask seemed a bit special.

However, for now, Alan couldn't figure out exactly what results valuable materials would yield.

Moreover, in the early stages of the game, valuable materials were hard to come by.

Putting away the items, Alan smiled at Daniel and then returned to the beginner village.

Blacksmith Shop.

David was forging iron.

Seeing Alan return, he showed a satisfied smile.

"Ice King, you didn't disappoint me."

[You have completed David's quest.]

[Quest reward: Breeze Set +1.]

Alan's eyes lit up.

The Breeze Set was quite effective for him.

Most importantly, it increased both attack speed and movement speed.

However, Alan already had the Bloodthirst Necklace, two gold rings, and the Ninefold Longbow.

He had to make some choices.

The Ninefold Longbow was definitely a keeper, given its life stealing and many powerful attributes.

The Thunder Ring was rather ordinary, so for the sake of attack speed and movement speed, he could temporarily not wear the Thunder Ring.

After a brief consideration, Alan replaced one Thunder Ring, forming a set of ten Breeze items plus one Thunder Ring, a Bloodthirst Necklace, and his main weapon, the Ninefold Longbow.

After equipping himself with the new gear, Alan's attributes underwent a dramatic transformation.

"David, when do we take action?" Alan asked directly.

He had spent too much time in the newbie village and needed to consider leaving as soon as possible.

David gave a mysterious smile. "Right now!"

Alan nodded and asked, "What's the plan?"

David smiled and said, "I've had many secret confrontations with Daniel before. This time, you're the game-changer."

Alan was a bit surprised. "What do you mean?"

"In a direct fight, neither Daniel nor I can be sure of defeating the other. But with your help, the outcome could be different."

"I see." Alan smiled. "So, we're heading straight to the cliff to find Daniel."

"Exactly. But first, go to the tavern and buy me two jars of wine."

"Alright."

Alan was a bit taken aback that David actually needed to drink.

Tavern.

After buying the wine, Alan didn't poison it as he had agreed with Daniel.

In this battle, no matter who won, Alan hoped it would be a hard-fought victory.

Because only then could he benefit.

When David received the wine from Alan, he first tested it with a silver needle.

"Charles was Daniel's man; even if he's dead, we still need to be cautious."

Alan was a bit stunned. So much for Daniel's "absolute trust"?

This silver needle test was said to be a sign of distrust towards Charles, but in reality, it was an indication of distrust towards him.

"Let's go." Seeing that the silver needle didn't change color, David finally showed a satisfied smile.

"Let's go!"

Alan followed David all the way to the cliff.

Daniel was still in the pavilion, drinking tea.

Seeing Alan and David arrive, he smiled.

"David, we've known each other for so many years. Do we really have to come to this?"

David snorted coldly, "Daniel, I didn't want it to come to this either. But I warned you, yet you didn't listen. I have no choice."

"I couldn't listen to you. Your plan would destroy our village," Daniel said.

"You're the one who wants to destroy our beginner village," David shouted angrily. "I want a permanent solution, but your method will lead to a slow and steady decline. Our village is doomed."

Daniel sighed, "Even now, you're still so stubborn."

"You're the stubborn one!" David shouted.

Daniel shook his head. "In that case, there's nothing more to say."

As he spoke, a silver-white set of armor appeared on Daniel.

Silver Set!

In the newbie village, this was already quite formidable.

However, David was even more formidable.

Because David was wearing a Golden Set.

"It seems you've crafted the Black Tortoise Set."

Daniel's expression became serious.

David smiled and nodded. "Yes, and I have to thank Ice King. He helped me gather a lot of equipment. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to craft the Black Tortoise Set today."

"Too bad it's only ten pieces. If it were thirteen, I might not be able to beat you," Daniel said confidently.

David, however, shouted angrily, "Daniel, you're at death's door and still talking big?"

With that, David made the first move.

He charged at Daniel with his spiked shield!
