Chapter 26 The Old Drunkard

Ernest keenly sensed something, but he didn't care.

As long as Alan helped him complete this task, he could leave the newbie village.

As for what Alan planned to do next, it had nothing to do with him.

"I'll get you to level ten, then we'll go find the old drunkard." Alan sent a team invitation over.

He was already planning to grind on wild monsters to increase his health. Reaching level ten without leaving the newbie village meant he couldn't gain any more experience points.

So he might as well help Ernest out.

With Alan's assistance, Ernest leveled up quickly.

In less than half an hour, he had already reached level ten.

"Let's go; time to find the old drunkard."

Alan headed towards the mine. Searching for ores, he had a strong intuition that it was the location of the mine.

However, after circling around the area, they still couldn't find the old drunkard.

"Where did this guy go?" Ernest frowned.

Alan also frowned; he had a strong feeling that someone was watching him.

This feeling of being spied on was very unsettling.

"Come out. You've been following us for quite a while."

Alan looked around. He was very confident in his intuition; there was definitely someone nearby.

Ernest was a bit surprised. There was someone around them, but he hadn't noticed at all.

"Well, a real talent indeed. So young yet so skilled."

A loud laugh echoed, and then an old man holding a wine jug walked over.

[Old Drunkard Charles Wilson: Level 12.]

[Health: ???]

[Attack: ???]

[Skills: ???]

[Note: The tavern owner in the newbie village seems to be looking for something near the mine. Maybe you can help him out.]

If it were an ordinary player, they might really get a quest from the old drunkard.

Alan looked at Charles, and the old drunkard looked back at Alan with his bleary eyes.

"Ice King, you've been making quite a name for yourself in our village lately. But now that you're level ten, why haven't you headed to Central City?"

Alan smiled. "It's not that I don't want to leave; it's just that Daniel offered too much."

"What? Did Daniel send you to kill me?"

Alan raised an eyebrow. "So you already know. In that case, let me see what you're capable of, old man."

As soon as he finished speaking, Alan shot an arrow.

The arrow whistled through the air.

Charles squinted his eyes and did a backflip, easily dodging Alan's arrow.

"No need to be so hot-tempered. We can talk things out."

The old drunkard looked at Alan with a smile.

"Whatever Daniel can offer you, I can match."

As he spoke, the old drunkard placed his wine jug in front of Alan.

"Have a drink, leave the newbie village, and all the grudges here will have nothing to do with you."

[The old drunkard has given you a quest.]

[Quest requirement: Have a drink and immediately leave the newbie village.]

[Quest penalty: None.]

[Quest reward: 50 free attribute points.]

Alan and Ernest exchanged glances, both seeing the shock in each other's eyes.

There was no other reason.

The reward from the old drunkard was simply too generous.

In fact, it was beyond their imagination.

Others needed to complete Daniel's exit quest to leave the village.

They just needed to take a sip of wine.

Not only that, but they would also receive such a generous reward.

Fifty free attribute points were equivalent to leveling up ten times.

"As for the quest penalty, you don't need to worry. After drinking my wine, you'll be instantly teleported out of the village.

"Daniel won't be able to impose any quest penalties on you."

Alan knew the old drunkard was telling the truth.

The quest was simple, and the reward was generous.

But he still hesitated.

There was no other reason.

It was just because his two quest scrolls promised the blessings of the gods if completed, and even the worst outcome would likely be better than this.

Ernest only hesitated briefly before accepting the quest.

He hadn't planned to continue participating anyway.

Now, with such a good way to end things, he had no reason to refuse.

After drinking the wine, Ernest left the village.

Charles looked at Alan with a smile. "What about you?"

Alan didn't answer; instead, he drew his bow and shot an arrow.

The arrow whistled through the air.

Coldness flashed in the old drunkard's eyes. "What did Daniel offer you that made you go this far for him?"

As he spoke, the old drunkard spat out a mouthful of strong liquor.

The liquor transformed into a flying sword in mid-air, reaching Alan in the blink of an eye.

Alan smashed the flying sword with his longbow and simultaneously rolled to the side.

The series of actions was smooth and flawless.

He then drew his bow and shot another arrow.

The battle had begun!

Alan knew very little about the old drunkard—his attributes, his skills—none of these.

When he completed the previous quest, Alan received twenty free attribute points, which he had all added to his movement speed.

This increased his movement speed by 2 points.

His attack speed was already sufficient at this stage.

In fact, because his damage was so high, his attack speed of over three was not fully utilized.

Movement speed had become the attribute Alan needed to focus on next.

As long as his movement speed was sufficient, his kiting ability would be greatly enhanced.

Alan's attacks were relentless. He wasn't solely focused on dealing damage but aimed to prevent the old drunkard from dealing any damage.

However, the old drunkard's combat experience was richer than Alan had imagined.

He splashed liquor from his jug and then threw a lighter.

Flames engulfed Alan.

There was no way for Alan to avoid it.

[-921.]

[-921.]

[-921.]

The burning damage continued, and Alan felt a tingling sensation on his scalp.

The flames burned for a full eight seconds!

Over seven thousand health points vanished just like that.

Alan pulled back and used the Twisting String Arrow Technique.

He needed to knock Charles into the air; only then could he quickly deplete Charles' health through a combo.

Charles saw through Alan's intention and used his jug to deflect Alan's arrow. He then threw the jug at Alan.

Alan was startled and immediately dodged.

He had already tried to put as much distance as possible between them.

But his movement speed was still insufficient; the jug exploded 200 feet in front of him.

With a loud bang, Alan was blasted away by the powerful shockwave from the jug's explosion.

[-8520.]

A massive damage number appeared above Alan's head, and his health bar plummeted.

Before Alan could even hit the ground, Charles turned into a blur and appeared beneath him.

Charles delivered an uppercut to Alan's stomach, sending him flying into the air.

[-1029.]

Alan couldn't attack due to being airborne, but he didn't just sit there.

He instantly switched his primary weapon, and the complete Black Iron Treefolk Set appeared on him.
