Chapter 203 The Second Talent: The Heart of God's Retribution!
Robert was the first to pipe up, " Alan, need a hand?"
Alan just shrugged. "Nah, just focus on leveling up when you hit Vast Continent. And don't rush into joining any local factions."
Once players got to Vast Continent, the game really kicked off.
Usually, to snag good missions, you had to join a faction.
After the beginner village and Stellaria, players were used to doing tasks for rewards. Otherwise, just grinding monsters for XP and loot would slow leveling by at least half.
Joining a faction in Vast Continent had its perks, like protection from local forces.
There was an adventurer's guild with simple bounty tasks, but the rewards were pretty meh.
The crux of the matter was the absence of a fixed salary and a residence permit.
That was a real pain.
In Vast Continent, you needed a residence permit to enter the city. Without it, you had to pay each time you went in.
Normally, it wasn't a big deal, but if you were in bad shape, basic recovery was slow.
Plus, reviving in the city after dying cost money.
This setting frustrated players.
But it made players value their lives more, avoiding unnecessary deaths.
This set the stage for a big catastrophe five years later.
The best part of entering the city was taking on tasks, and the second was the resurrection altar for recovery.
Besides, Vast Continent had a night setting, unlike the always-daytime beginner village and Stellaria, to help players level up faster.
At night, visibility dropped, and night monsters got stronger, making grinding harder.
After giving James and Robert some tips, Alan turned to the leader in the black robe. "You have connections with the Palace of Infinity. Can you get me a dragon egg? Price is negotiable."
The Continent was huge, and getting around was a hassle.
So, mounts were crucial.
The Royal Portal needed him to have been to the place first.
His Triple Projection clones could map run, but they'd disappear if attacked.
Running on foot was inefficient. A mount would be way better.
The Black Robe Leader rolled his eyes. "If you're serious, we're friends."
Alan said, "I'm serious. How about a ten billion gold coins?"
"What?" The Black Robe Leader thought Alan was joking, but a ten billion gold coins shocked him.
"Can you get that much gold now?" the Black Robe Leader asked.
"Not right now, but I can pay a hundred million as a deposit," Alan replied.
The Black Robe Leader sneered. "Even with that much gold, you couldn't buy it."
He added, "The dragon eggs of the Palace of Infinity only accept a limited amount of bartering. They keep most for themselves or to recruit talent."
Then he looked at Alan with interest. "But with your talent, if you join the Palace of Infinity, you could get a dragon egg."
Alan smirked. "We'll see. If there are no dragon eggs, are there any other mounts available?"
The Black Robe Leader grinned. "You're asking the right guy. How about a Windrunner Horse? Twenty thousand gold coins each."
Alan raised an eyebrow. Not bad, considering they usually went for fifty thousand.
"Alright, give me ten thousand of them," Alan said.
"Get lost!" The Black Robe Leader's face darkened. "I can give you at most ten, and I'll still be losing three hundred thousand gold coins."
Alan grinned. "Alright, ten it is."
Windrunner Horses weren't great in combat but were top-tier basic mounts.
Alan's first mount in his previous life was a prairie pig, which made him shudder at the memory.
Back then, a prairie pig was decent for a low-level player.
After paying two hundred thousand gold coins, Alan got ten Windrunner Horses.
[Windrunner Horse: Common.]
[Level: 50.]
[Usage Requirement: None.]
[Effect: Maintains a speed of 50+ for two hours.]
[Note: After two hours, speed decreases, and after eight hours, there's a risk of death from exhaustion. Use with caution.]
Alan was used to it.
He kept one for himself and gave one each to James, Robert, Michael, SteadyStrategist, and Zephyrine.
The rest went to Herman. The Diaz Family excelled in archery and mounted combat, so it was a good fit.
SteadyStrategist was in a tough spot.
Alan had thought about giving Michael's god-level talent awakening stone to SteadyStrategist.
But he stuck to his principle: strengthen himself first.
He'd help SteadyStrategist if he could.
After handling things in the Oceanus Kingdom, Alan posted a server-wide announcement looking for his sister Mary.
Unfortunately, still no luck, no response at all.
James, Robert, and Michael also posted announcements, but nothing.
Mary seemed to have vanished.
Without confirming offline that Mary was in the game, Alan would've thought something was wrong.
Collecting his thoughts, Alan mounted his Windrunner Horse and headed to the Land of Chaos.
To get there, he had to cross the Blackwind Mountain Range and climb several mountains.
It was still tough. Crossing the Blackwind Mountain Range took at least three days.
With a Windrunner Horse, it could be cut in half.
The mountains beyond were tough too, requiring him to go on foot.
Riding through the Blackwind Mountain Range, Alan chose routes with many monsters.
He fought his way through, stacking up health.
Three days later, while climbing a mountain, Alan got a message from Michael.
Michael: [Alan, I'm out. I've sent you the god-level talent awakening stone.]
Alan's eyes lit up. The god-level talent awakening stone he'd dreamed of was finally here. He wondered what talent he'd awaken this time.
Taking out the stone, Alan used it without hesitation.
[You have used the god-level talent awakening stone.]
[Due to your high talent, the stone can only awaken part of your talent.]
[Congratulations on awakening the talent: The Heart of God's Retribution!]
