Chapter 258 Different Stances, Neither of Us Is Wrong
Oberon got totally shut down by Lysander's domain, leaving him with zero chance to fight back.
Alan's damage was off the charts, and he took Oberon out in a heartbeat.
After taking down so many high-level bosses, Alan should've been all over the loot.
But instead, he kept his cool and looked over at Dashiell.
"Dashiell, can we finally talk about our business now?"
Dashiell hesitated but finally said, "The rules of Ragnarok can't be changed."
"I get that, but you might wanna reconsider," Alan replied.
Seeing Elowen, Oberon, and the others turned into undead by Alan, Dashiell stayed quiet.
"Hand over my pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods, and I'll change the quest," Dashiell said.
Alan eyed Dashiell suspiciously, wondering if he was up to something.
Even though the chances were slim, if Dashiell messed with him, it would waste a ton of Alan's time.
Luckily, Dashiell played it straight. He changed the quest and gave the scroll back to Alan.
[Quest requirement: Escort all second-job change members of the Ashford Family safely to the Vast Continent within seven days.]
[Quest penalty: None.]
[Quest reward: Blessing of the Gods.]
Seeing the quest, Alan finally cracked a smile.
Alan asked, "Is there a resurrection altar nearby?"
Players and NPCs could use resurrection altars to get to the Vast Continent, but it depended on whether the NPCs were up for it.
"Yeah, there is," Dashiell nodded and led Alan to a nearby teleportation array.
Alan had Elowen keep an eye on Ambrose; the others didn't matter as much.
He realized that the fragments of Silver-Eyed Nicholas's tentacles he was collecting were coming from Ambrose, not Elowen.
Clearly, Elowen had the same plan as Finley; if Alan was gonna complete the quest, Elowen'd have to sacrifice her kin. That's why Alan didn't kill Ambrose.
One pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods still felt a bit risky to Alan. What if it wasn't from the gods of the Jinse Empire?
What if it clashed with other blessings he'd already gotten from the Jinse Empire gods?
It wasbetter to have more options.
Alan watched as the Ashford Family members left one by one, with Dashiell being the last.
"Your turn."
Alan glanced at Dashiell, the last one standing.
Dashiell nodded, then suddenly punched himself in the forehead!
Alan thought, 'This guy is definitely up to no good!'
"Seawater chains!"
Lysander's voice echoed, and chains made of seawater appeared, binding Dashiell.
"You trying to kill yourself just to mess up my quest?" Alan said coldly.
The quest required him to escort Dashiell and the other second-job change members safely to the Vast Continent.
If Dashiell died, the quest would be a bust.
"Go ahead, kill me. I'm not going to the Vast Continent."
Dashiell didn't resist, acting all defiant.
"You think if you die and stop me from getting the Blessing of the Gods, your clan won't face any backlash?" Alan asked.
Alan wasn't dumb. Dashiell's plan was clear when he tried to off himself after his clan had left.
Dashiell didn't deny it. "Since you know, you should understand that I can't let you succeed."
"If you get the Blessing of the Gods from my scroll, even if the Ashford Family goes to the Vast Continent, they won't escape extinction."
"This is the only way to protect them. It may be unfair to you, but as the clan leader of the Ashford Family, I have to think of my people."
"Kill me and make me your undead to atone for my sins."
Alan looked at Dashiell with a complicated expression. "I get your concern for your family, but tricking me really ticks me off."
Dashiell smiled bitterly, saying, "Actually, there's another way. How about you don't revive the ancient Jinse Empire?"
"No." Alan shook his head. "You're not wrong. How can I blame someone willing to sacrifice themselves for their family? Someone once died in front of me to save me."
Alan thought of the woman who died to save him during the great catastrophe in his previous life. It was kind of laughable.
A grown man, reduced to needing a woman to save him. And not just that.
There were many tragic scenes in his past life. Thinking back, Alan's heart couldn't help but beat faster.
Because of these memories, Alan's eyes gradually became determined.
He had to become stronger, make those around him stronger, and boost the overall combat power of the Jinse Empire's players.
To achieve these, sometimes, extreme measures were necessary.
To accomplish great things, you couldn't sweat the small stuff.
For the great catastrophe to come, for the Jinse Empire not to be drenched in blood, for millions of soldiers and three hundred million people not to bleed across the stars, he couldn't back down.
The revival of the ancient Jinse Empire was a must!
The super hidden class in Billy's hands, he had to get it.
"Dashiell, do you think your family will be safe just by going to the Vast Continent?" Alan asked.
Dashiell's heart tightened. "What are you planning?"
He knew that some undead had mysterious and unpredictable methods.
Alan smiled, opened the Code of Life and Death, and changed SnowflakeChaser's name to Dashiell.
"You know about the strange blood loss of the vampire marquis Oberon. As long as I write someone's name here, they'll keep losing blood until they die." Alan smiled slightly. "Coincidentally, I’ve memorized the names of everyone in the Ashford Family."
Dashiell's face twisted. "Impossible, how could you remember so many names?"
Alan stayed calm, reciting names one by one.
These were the people who had just gone to the Vast Continent through the resurrection altar.
Of course, Alan couldn't remember so many names; it was the God of the Undead who helped him remember.
With each name Alan recited, Dashiell's heart trembled.
"Alright, alright, stop reciting. I'll go, isn't that enough!"
Dashiell's psychological defense was completely shattered by Alan.
Alan stepped forward and patted Dashiell on the shoulder.
"From your perspective, what you did is understandable. But from my perspective, what I did is also necessary."
"We are both for the future of our respective clans. I respect you. If one day I establish a territory on the Vast Continent and you're still alive, you can come to me."
