Chapter 284 True Meaning of Archery!
"That's right. Mind if I ask you something? Alan dropped his voice, sounding cryptic.
"Shoot."
"What's your attack speed?" Alan asked.
At first, Alan thought about binding with Billy. He'd asked Sea God about his attack speed, and honestly, he was underwhelmed—Sea God's peak was barely over a hundred. Unless Alan could snag a female archer god with insane attack speed someday, Billy seemed like the better bet.
"My attack speed? 2.1."
Alan was shocked.
"What's with that look? It's like you think I'm lying," Billy said irritably.
"How could that be? You're a super god-level hidden class."
"That's exactly the problem. This damn super god-level hidden class comes with strings attached. You'll see when you level up." Billy shrugged. "Anyway, let's cut to the chase. As the Lord of the Hall of Glory, can you pull some strings and get the Mountain and Sea Empire to go after the Lunar Empire?"
"What's your play here?" Alan was kinda stunned—it sounded like Billy had already gotten the cold shoulder from the emperor.
But just thinking about it, it was obvious that it wasn't realistic.
The Mountain and Sea Empire had just revived, and the Hall of Glory's strength was not what it used to be.
In this situation, how could they possibly send troops to attack the Lunar Empire?
"If the Lunar Empire goes down, the Mountain and Sea Empire can make a comeback. What you're seeing now is just a scaled-down version of it. Back in the day, the whole Vast Continent was under their rule. But, y'know, stuff happened, and here we are," Billy explained.
"Is that so?" Alan kinda put it together. "You've got family tied to the Mountain and Sea Empire. The only way to bring them back is to crush the Lunar Empire and revive the old empire, huh?"
"Smart."
"I can help you, but what do I get in return?" Alan asked with interest.
"Your arrow speed's gotta be crawling now, right? I've got this book—The True Meaning of Archery. Master it, and you'll crank up your arrow speed. Max it out, and you're looking at a 30% boost."
Alan's frown deepened—this was exactly what he needed.
But taking on the Lunar Empire? That felt way too soon.
"How about this? Hand over the book, and I'll hit the Lunar Empire within a year," he proposed.
He wasn't about to bleed his empire dry. The Mountain and Sea Empire was his turf, fresh off a revival. Wasting its strength on a full-blown war with another powerhouse was not a smart move. At least for now.
"Alright, I won't bind it to a quest. I trust you."
Billy directly handed a secret book to Alan.
The True Meaning of Archery!
Swordsmanship books were common, but archery books were somewhat rare.
"Thanks."
Increasing arrow speed was currently the fastest way for him to increase his combat power.
"Alright, I'll wait for the day you attack the Lunar Empire." Billy said goodbye and left, while Alan walked straight into the study.
He had come this time specifically to talk to the emperor about opening a bank.
Since the Mountain and Sea Empire's revival, his banking gig had hit a wall.
A quick scan of the forums showed people were buzzing about it—some even trash-talking Alan for bailing with their cash.
Back in the Chaos Territory, Alan had been able to throw money around without a care, thanks a lot to his banking venture.
As the Lord of the Hall of Glory, Alan made his case, and the emperor didn't hesitate. He gave the order: Alan's bank would launch nationwide in seven days, with full empire-wide coverage within a month.
After wrapping things up, Alan headed back to the Hall of Glory.
He handed three god-level talent awakening stones to Leif, telling him to pass one to Little Sword later.
Besides Little Sword, there was another swordsman—Peerless Swordsman—a female fighter Alan wanted to recruit, though he wasn't sure if she'd even joined the game yet. He'd tried adding her before but came up empty—either her nickname was hidden or the ID didn't exist.
Back to the grind.
One last thing to wrap up, and then he could finally zero in on his own stuff.
"Blade Warrior, do me a favor—find out which altar Ambitious Soloist's stuck at. Dude's probably stuck in that death-and-revive loop."
Alan had killed most of the Nightfall Union members more than ten times.
Now, only the one whose name Blade Warrior didn't know was left.
After about three minutes, Blade Warrior's voice came through.
"Mountain and Sea Empire, Sunset Town."
"Sunset Town?" Alan was surprised. He'd been there before, back when he was at Lysandra's old place.
He remembered running into a sword master there—someone his arrows couldn't even scratch. He wondered if that guy was still around.
It wasn't a new spot for him, so even though he couldn't use the Royal Portal to drop right into Sunset Town, he could still make it to the entrance.
By the time he arrived, it was pitch dark, but Sunset Town was lit up and buzzing with activity.
Players were everywhere, hawking materials, gear, and skill books at makeshift stalls.
"Friend, take a look. I have a level 50 elite quality longbow here, with added attack power and attack speed, perfect for archers."
"Iron ore with over 40% purity, friends with the blacksmith secondary profession, come take a look. It's a rare opportunity, first come, first served."
"This chain fireball book can release three fireballs at once, with high stats. Now it's 20% off."
Behind these stalls were blacksmith shops, tailor shops, and so on.
Many players could be seen working inside.
With nightfall, monster farming efficiency became very low, so naturally, they came to the town to work on their secondary professions.
Or, like these people, set up stalls to sell things.
Of course, those with more cash to burn hit up the taverns and casinos to blow off steam.
Back in his past life, Alan had been just like these guys—stuck on low-level quests at day, poured hours into leveling up his secondary skills at night, desperate for any shot at earning more gold.
Seeing these players now was like looking in a mirror. Their struggles were all too familiar.
Even now, the lives of these everyday players felt real, raw, and way too close to home.
As Alan was lost in memories of his past life, he suddenly heard the sharp sound of something slicing through the air behind him.
"Hey, kid, move it! You're in my way!"
Alan's reflexes were razor-sharp. With a quick sidestep, he dodged the kick aimed at his back.
The guy behind him missed his mark, lost his balance, and ended up doing a full split on the ground.
"What was that you said?" Alan smirked at the bearded fat man in front of him.
The bearded fat man felt a cold sweat down below. He tried to stand up twice but failed both times.
"You two just gonna stand there? Help me up!" the bearded fat man barked at the two warriors beside him.
The warriors rushed to lift him up, but just then—a foot came down hard on the bearded fat man's shoulder, slamming him back to the ground!
A scream tore through the air, mixed with the sickening crunch of the fat man's family jewels.
