Chapter 249 I'll Give You a Chance to Rephrase That
When Alan was just about to get Cassius to level 500, Cassius bit the dust.
Alan thought, 'Is this really just a coincidence? Or is Oberon out for revenge? Oberon's been hanging around Chaos Territory for a while, so why strike now?'
'Plus, Cassius was already at level 450. Even if he couldn't take down Oberon, who’s been chugging divine blood, shouldn't he have held his ground with Super Armor? And Kenneth and Finley really had no time to save him?'
Too many questions! Alan was almost sure someone was pulling the strings to stop him from snagging the tenth blessing from the gods of the Jinse Empire.
As for fighting his way through, that was simply unrealistic. Pre-quest scrolls for the Blessing of the Gods were either set up by someone like Matthew or dropped by design. Killing for them was nearly impossible.
So, Alan had to think outside the box. He made his way to Sterling Manor.
The Sterling Family was doing well, thanks to some mysterious connections and those blue crystal mines.
"I need to see Cressida," Alan said, knocking on the door of Sterling Manor.
Cressida had already told her staff to treat any young guy in a black robe with the utmost respect. "Please wait in the living room, sir. I'll get the head of the family."
In the living room, someone brought Alan tea and snacks.
Soon, Cressida showed up. She rushed over and knelt down. "Thank you, sir, for saving the Sterling Family during our crisis."
Alan waved it off. "What's this about your father's disappearance?"
Cressida's face darkened. She gritted her teeth. "I don't know. All I know is that people from Siren's Slumber Isle contacted him, and then he vanished."
"Do you know why Percival had a pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods?" Alan asked.
Cressida looked puzzled. "I don't know, but I heard my father say that besides Blood Crow Tower, no one else seemed to have it."
"Of course, it's not a sure thing. Some less powerful folks might have them, but they usually keep them well hidden."
Alan's hunch was right. From the moment he stepped into Chaos Territory and met Ophelia, he was already in the game.
Actually, it started even earlier. When he got two pre-quest scrolls for the Sea God's blessings from Eulalia, he was already in the game. He just didn't know it then.
Others might not know how to revive the ancient kingdom of the Jinse Empire, but some gods definitely would.
His actions in Stellaria to get divine blessings were too obvious. Once he got enough, it was bound to catch the gods' attention, like the Sea God.
But Alan still didn't know what the two blessings from the Sea God were for. If the Sea God was behind this, why give him the blessings? Even a god like the Sea God couldn't hand out too many blessings, especially not to the same person.
"Did your dad say anything before he vanished?" Alan asked.
Cressida thought for a bit, then something clicked. "He mentioned that some gods wanted to mess with adventurers' quests at this stage, which is a big no-no, and he didn't want any part of it."
Her face turned serious. "I think his disappearance is tied to that."
Alan got it. The kind of quest that would make gods step in was becoming clear.
"Got it." Alan's eyes turned icy. "Tell your clan members to stay put for now."
"Why?" Cressida inquired instinctively.
The Sterling Family's territory was once guarded by a third-tier gold-level expert, so they were pretty self-sufficient.
"Just a heads-up, there might be an undead army about to wreak havoc in Chaos Territory," Alan said.
"What?" Cressida was stunned. "Are those Netherland scum coming back?"
Alan shot her a look. "Watch your mouth."
Cressida realized her mistake and immediately knelt down. "Sorry, I spoke out of turn." She slapped herself hard.
Alan said, "You're smart. Once this blows over, move your clan to the Vast Continent."
Cressida gasped but didn't ask more questions, sensing the gravity of the situation.
"That's it. I'm out." Alan waved and turned to leave.
As soon as Alan left, Cressida gave orders, "Recall all clan members immediately. If they're in other cities, get supplies and come back ASAP. No one leaves the territory without my say-so. Those who do so without permission shall be expelled from the family."
After visiting the Sterling Family, Alan was sure of his suspicions and headed to Ashford Manor.
It was time for some drastic measures.
"Ice King, what brings you here?" Dashiell forced a smile. He already knew what happened to the Sinclair Family.
Alan pulled out the pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods that Dashiell had given him. "Cassius is dead. I can't afford any more slip-ups with this quest, so I need you to lock it in and stick by my side from now on."
Dashiell's eyes widened. "Locking it in won't change much. The quest needs you to help me set up a regime."
"Cut the chatter. I just need to know, will you stay by my side?"
Dashiell sighed. "Ice King, looks like you've figured it out."
Alan smirked. "Not playing pretend anymore?"
"Giving you the pre-quest scroll was just to keep you in check. You can't complete the quest anyway," Dashiell said seriously.
"This is Ashford Manor. Aren't you worried none of you will make it out if you talk to me like that here?" Alan raised his hand, and a massive undead army surrounded Ashford Manor. "Dashiell, I'll give you one chance to rephrase that!"
