Chapter 247 Blaming Cassius's Death on Alan
Alan couldn't tell if it was the Sea God or Silver-Eyed Nicholas. But honestly, it didn't matter. Anyone who tried to stand in his way was going to be taken down..
He raised his hand and scooped up the loot dropped by the NPC. No way he was leaving behind anything that could boost his combat power, especially from a level 400+ gold boss.
Sure, the pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods was a bust, but Alan still wanted to get something out of this mess.
"You have obtained 2 pieces of equipment."
"You have obtained 2 skill books."
"You have obtained 100 free attribute points."
"You have obtained 20,000 gold coins."
"You have obtained 1 letter from the Sterling Family."
"You have obtained..."
The system notifications kept rolling in, but to Alan, this was just a small win. During his sea beast hunting spree, he had racked up nearly 99,000 free attribute points.
The rewards for killing low-level bosses were pretty meager. If it were like the newbie village rewards, Alan would have even more free attribute points.
Plus, bosses only gave free attribute points the first time they were killed. After they respawned, that reward was off the table.
Alan couldn't grab all the items in time, missing out on some free attribute points. But even so, he still managed to snag nearly 100,000 free attribute points.
His current attack speed was around 40, and bumping it up by one point needed 800 free attribute points. To get it to 50, he needed over 7,000 free attribute points.
After hitting 50, each point of attack speed required 1,600 free attribute points, and getting it to 60 needed 16,000 free attribute points.
If Alan dumped all 100,000 free attribute points into attack speed, he could hit a crazy 70 or even close to 80.
Eighty arrows per second? His bow would be practically on fire.
The Ninefold Longbow now had a durability of less than 20, and it was a gold weapon. If it were a regular black iron or bronze weapon, it would've been toast by now.
On top of that, Alan's massive sea beast hunt had netted him over a million pieces of equipment of various grades.
He also had around 250,000 skill books, even though most were duplicates. Still, it was more than enough to upgrade A Withered Tree Springing to Life Again to six stars.
During this time, Alan had his undead sea beast army grinding away. He was busy studying the True Essence of the Sea Manual, and now Essence of the Sea had reached an advanced level.
Normally, Alan would be thrilled with such gains. But right now, he was anything but happy. Losing the pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods had him fuming.
Before long, Finley came running back, out of breath, and froze when he saw Alan. "Ice King."
Alan shot Finley a cold look and asked, "How did Cassius die?"
It seemed like a pointless question, but Finley knew Alan wasn't asking about Cassius being killed by Oberon. He wanted to know why Cassius died when he was so close to completing the pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods!
Even though Finley knew what Alan was really getting at, he played dumb. "It was a vampire named Oberon."
Alan's eyes narrowed. Finley was definitely playing dumb.
"Ice King, Oberon seems to have a grudge against you. I don't know how he found out that Cassius gave you the pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods; he killed Cassius to mess with you."
Alan almost laughed. The explanation made sense. If the God of the Undead hadn't told him that he sensed Kenneth's presence here, Alan might have bought it.
Finley didn't care about Alan's thoughts. He switched gears and continued, "I just activated the family protection array, which could have trapped that damn vampire, but someone broke my array, letting the vampire escape. I think that vampire must have a powerful accomplice. They have a grudge against you, so you should be careful."
Alan calmed down. Finley was really something. He blamed Cassius's death on Alan, implying it was his fault for pissing off Oberon. Then he also blamed Oberon's escape on him, talking about an accomplice. He definitely knew who broke his family protection array.
"Spatial Blink!"
"TideLock!"
Alan ignored Finley and made his move, instantly appearing in a courtyard on the side.
In the courtyard, Kenneth had already activated a teleportation scroll, ready to bail. If he stayed, it would likely arouse Alan's suspicion.
Alan asked, "Kenneth, where are you planning to go?"
Kenneth's heart skipped a beat when he saw Alan. He hadn't expected Alan to find him.
"Finley, shouldn't you give me an explanation?" Alan turned his gaze back to Finley.
Finley cursed Kenneth in his heart for getting caught. "Ice King, I've always had a good relationship with Kenneth. He came here to discuss the upcoming opening of Sea God Island with me."
Alan smiled, not buying it. "Do you think I would believe that?"
Kenneth forced a smile. "Ice King, it's true. Oberon acted too suddenly, using divine power right away. Finley and I were discussing things, and by the time we reacted, Cassius was already..."
Alan asked, "You were discussing things, so how did you know Oberon used divine power right away?"
Kenneth was caught off guard but quickly responded, "We heard the noise and came over. As soon as we entered, we saw Oberon attacking Cassius with divine power."
Alan shot Kenneth a cold look. "Then why did you hide when I came over?"
"I was afraid you'd ask me for the pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods." Kenneth's quick thinking made his answer seem flawless.
"Ice King, I know Cassius's death makes you very sad. After all, he was a member of The Sinclair Family. His death pains me deeply as well," Finley said with a sorrowful expression.
Alan didn't believe for a second that he was truly pained. "Kenneth, since you said that, why don't you give me your pre-quest scroll for the Blessing of the Gods?"
