Chapter 280 Meeting Octavius
The system prompt sounded again. ''Heads up. The Lord of the Sanctuary can't join the Sanctuary Newcomer Genius Battle. You gotta pick a new genius for the Sanctuary ASAP."
Alan just stood there, speechless. He thought to himself, 'Am I not a novice adventurer? This is unfair!'
Right then, a server-wide announcement blared out. "Attention everyone: The Palace of Infinity is recruiting talents in the capital of the Vast Empire in three days. If you've got some decent skills, sign up! Join the Palace of Infinity, get mentored by a nine-time job change expert, and even learn from a demigod. You deserve it!"
The Palace of Infinity kicked things off. Right after, a bunch of other sanctuaries started making their own announcements, all looking for genius disciples. It was clear they were all gearing up for this genius competition.
Alan quickly messaged James and the crew, telling them not to join any other sanctuaries and to stick with the Hall of Glory. On top of that, Alan was thinking about recruiting some of the geniuses he knew from his past life to build the ultimate dream team.
But this time around, Alan had changed a lot of things and messed with a lot of people's game paths. He wasn't sure how everyone was doing now. Alan decided he needed to reach out to those with god-level talents.
In his past life, folks like SteadyStrategist, who got a god-level talent awakening stone early on, were super rare. Most of the god-level talents woke up pretty late, some even in the fourth or fifth year of the game.
And those with god-level talents had all sorts of personalities. If Alan wanted to recruit them, he'd have to think about their character too.
'One Arrow Skyward!' Alan remembered this insanely good archer from his past life. This archer had some ties with Herman's Diaz Family. He was kinda part of the Diaz Family but was always treated like an outsider.
One Arrow Skyward was the kid of a top-notch female archer from the Diaz Family and a rural hunter. This female archer was supposed to marry some young master from another noble family but ended up with another guy and got pregnant.
The head of the Diaz Family was furious, cut off her thumbs so she could never use a bow again, and kicked her out of the family. But that wasn't the end of it.
One Arrow Skyward's archery skills were even better than his mom's, and he was a total beast with a bow. With his longbow, he scared the crap out of a lot of top players in the Alaite Star System. But he was too flashy and eventually got ganged up on by a bunch of strong players in the Alaite Star System. In the end, they didn't kill him but tried to recruit him, offering all sorts of perks. But One Arrow Skyward chose to sacrifice his life force, seriously injuring them, and refused to join the Alaite Star System.
Sadly, One Arrow Skyward was always a target in the game, mostly because of his mom. The young master his mom was supposed to marry became the head of the family. He made sure his family kept messing with One Arrow Skyward, slowing down his progress.
Even his god-level talent only woke up in the fourth year of the game, and he didn't get much power before the big catastrophe hit. Otherwise, his achievements would have been off the charts.
Thinking about it, Alan sent a friend request to One Arrow Skyward. Impeccable character, archery skills off the charts, god-level talent, and a task scroll for a god-level hidden archer class in Alan's hands... With all these factors, One Arrow Skyward's future would be mind-blowing.
Besides him, Alan had two other candidates in mind. They were Little Sword and Melee Mage. Among the god-level talents Alan knew, these two had solid characters. Alan sent them friend requests right away.
Without a god-level talent awakening stone, adding them as friends would've been pointless and might've messed up their chances. Now that Alan was the Lord of the Sanctuary and had a bunch of god-level talent awakening stones, he could easily gather these talents.
But before Alan got their friend confirmations, a message from Blade Warrior popped up: [Ice King, when are you free?]
Alan: [Anytime.]
Blade Warrior: [Dragon Capital, Spring Breeze Teahouse. Octavius is waiting for you there.]
Alan: [Got it.] With a step, he appeared in Dragon Capital.
"Sea God, find the Spring Breeze Teahouse." Alan didn't want to waste time and asked Sea God to search with his divine sense.
After a moment, Sea God replied, "Found it."
Following Sea God's guidance, Alan arrived at the entrance of the Spring Breeze Teahouse. He took a deep breath. Even after two lifetimes, thinking about meeting this person made him a bit emotional.
"You're actually showing emotions?" God of the Undead's surprised voice echoed in Alan's mind. He had been with Alan for a while, and even when facing deities, Alan's emotions were usually rock solid.
"You don't get it. The person I'm meeting today is a great man in my eyes," Alan said seriously. In fact, he knew many national leaders from various countries and eras. But many were mediocre, and some were even tyrants. There were a few who deserved to be called great men, but not many.
Alan stepped into the Spring Breeze Teahouse, and a waiter immediately ran over respectfully. "Please come in, sir. What would you like to drink? We have some new items that are quite good."
Alan waved his hand. "I'm meeting someone."
"Alright, this way, please."
Following the waiter to a private room, Alan's emotions calmed down a lot. The door opened, and Alan saw a mage.
He was sipping tea and stood up when he saw Alan. "Ice King, I've heard so much about you. Please, have a seat." Octavius smiled warmly, exuding a strong sense of friendliness, which eased the last bit of pressure Alan felt.
Alan asked, "What do you want to discuss with me, Octavius?"
Octavius smiled. "I just wanted to meet the famous number one in the Jinse Empire region."
"You're quite impressive. What do you think of this game, Ragnarok?" he added casually, testing the waters on their first meeting.
Alan replied, "This doesn't feel like a game."
Octavius said, "What if I told you this isn't a game at all? Would you believe me?"
Alan was taken aback. He was surprised that Octavius would be so straightforward about such an important matter. "I believe you, Octavius."
"And if I told you that in a few years, the game will merge with reality, and the entire planet will face an unprecedented catastrophe, would you believe me?"
"Yes!" Alan roughly understood. Octavius was here to lay his cards on the table and tell him what they knew about Ragnarok.
