Chapter 243 Wrong Guess
Since it was clear that Lysander had hidden the last segment, Alan knew he had to take some special steps.
Going straight to Lysander was pointless. Lysander would just deny it.
To get that last piece of the tentacle fragment, Alan needed to figure out why Lysander was hiding it. The reason was pretty obvious. If all the tentacle fragments were put together, Silver-Eyed Nicholas would recover a lot faster. That would, in turn, weaken the Sea God.
As a follower of the Sea God, Lysander wouldn't let that happen. Hiding a piece made sense. And in Chaos Territory, he seemed like the only one who could pull it off.
But Alan, having lived through the era of great disasters, always double-checked his conclusions.
He thought, 'Jumping to Lysander so quickly, isn't that a bit too easy? Or maybe Lysander's being too obvious? Knowing that just asking Ambrose would make me suspicious, why would he still do it? Either he really doesn't want Silver-Eyed Nicholas to recover, or there's something else going on.'
'For instance, Kenneth's previous answer was kinda vague. It made me think Lysander was lying right away. Ambrose's words almost confirmed it.'
'If Lysander really lied, fine. But what if he didn't? Does that mean Kenneth has been misleading me with a subtle answer? That's pretty scary when I think about it.'
Alan hoped Lysander was lying; otherwise, the idea of being manipulated was terrifying.
"Thanks for the info, I'll be going now." Alan used the Royal Portal to head straight to the Sea God Temple.
When Lysander heard Alan was there, he came out to meet him right away. "Greetings, Son of the Sea."
Alan looked Lysander straight in the eye and said, "Lysander, I want you to swear by your faith that you haven't lied to me about the tentacle fragments of Silver-Eyed Nicholas."
Lysander was taken aback, clearly not expecting Alan to ask this. He didn't know what was going on, but since he hadn't hidden anything, he wasn't afraid to swear.
"I, Lysander, Lord of the Sea God Temple in Chaos Territory, swear by my faith that I have not deceived the Son of the Sea regarding the tentacle fragments of Silver-Eyed Nicholas. If I break this oath, may my faith collapse and may I die by the hand of the gods!" Lysander's words were strong and unwavering.
Hearing his oath, Alan didn't feel relieved; instead, he felt a chill. Kenneth was definitely messing with his head.
A simple answer made him suspect Lysander. And Ambrose's response was probably part of Kenneth's plan.
Alan suddenly thought of the Ice Goddess's crystal coffin.
Kenneth could use divine power to hide that segment of the tentacle in the Ice Goddess's crystal coffin, especially since the Footprints in the Snow Corpse needed the King of Stellaria to open it.
Now that King Reed was dead, it was likely only Kenneth could open it. By hiding the last segment of the tentacle fragment in the Footprints in the Snow Corpse and burying it in the Ice Goddess's coffin, it could be shielded by divine power and be safe.
But that was assuming Alan didn't have the Royal Portal.
With this suspicion in mind, Alan used the Royal Portal to go straight to the Footprints in the Snow Corpse.
The place was a wreck, lifeless, and the once-powerful monsters were long gone.
Alan quickly made his way to the Ice Goddess's coffin and got there in no time.
The crystal coffins were still intact, so Alan summoned the God of the Undead. Opening these coffins himself was tough, but with the God of the Undead's help, it was a breeze. "Open these coffins."
"Yes, my lord." The God of the Undead used divine power to pop open the crystal coffins.
Alan checked each one carefully but found no tentacle fragments. He thought, 'Not here? Could it be in the crystal coffin outside Lindataria?'
Alan's face grew serious. It seemed unlikely, but he had to check.
Outside Lindataria, maybe because of some divine influence, the place was deserted.
At first, lots of people came hoping to get something from the Ice Goddess's corpse. But they couldn't even open the crystal coffin and left empty-handed.
Alan arrived at the crystal coffin, and the God of the Undead helped him open it. Inside was just the Ice Goddess's corpse, nothing else.
"Could my guess be wrong?" Alan felt a bit down.
He had suspected Lysander, but Lysander swore by his faith, clearing his name. He suspected Kenneth, but he had searched all the places Kenneth might have hidden the tentacle and found nothing.
Alan thought, 'If that's the case, where is the last segment of the tentacle? Who else could use divine power to hide the tentacle's aura? Vampire Marquis Oberon!'
He consumed a drop of the Ice Goddess's blood, gaining a slight divine power boost, making it entirely possible.
Besides, Ambrose and his crew could have hidden the fifth tentacle fragment themselves, making it impossible for him to find.
If it was with Vampire Marquis Oberon, that's manageable, but if it was with Ambrose and his group, it became a real headache.
"Just one more piece of the gods' blessing from the ancient Jinse Empire, I can't get stuck here." Alan's eyes were sharp; if necessary, he still had Cassius's mission.
Reaching level 500, even without killing the Sea God, Alan's monster-slaying skills could get it done. Plus, he could get Kenneth's pre-quest scroll of the gods' blessings.
In a flash, Alan thought of many things. No matter what, he wouldn't give up searching for the fifth tentacle fragment.
With a step, Alan returned to Blood Crow Ancient City.
After half a day, SnowflakeChaser finally arrived at Blood Crow Ancient City. "Ice King, I'm here."
Alan took SnowflakeChaser straight to see Kenneth.
Kenneth, not recognizing SnowflakeChaser, asked curiously, "Adventurer, is there something you need from me?"
SnowflakeChaser glanced at Alan and softly said, "Lord Kenneth, may I have a word with you in private?"
Kenneth looked at Alan, seeking his opinion, which surprised Alan. His action was quite respectful.
"I don't care about her business, you two talk." Alan returned to the inn. The situation was at a standstill, and he needed to think of a way to break the deadlock.
