Chapter 246 The Death of Cassius

After the last big meeting, the top dogs decided Cassius had to go. But it couldn't look like a suicide. If it did, that nutjob Ice King would lose it, and they couldn't handle that mess.

So, to keep Ice King from going off the rails, someone had to take the fall. This person needed a beef with Ice King and enough muscle to back it up.

That left Oberon. He was strong enough, and after downing a drop of the Ice Goddess's divine blood, he got even stronger. Taking out Cassius was a piece of cake for him.

Cassius glared at Oberon, teeth clenched. "Is there really no way out of this?"

"Nope, it's all set in stone. Blame Ice King for being a freak and getting you to level 500 without even hitting up Sea God Island," Oberon sneered. "So, just accept your fate."

Cassius, who had been staring at the ground, slowly lifted his head. His once timid eyes now sharp. "Can't we just leave? Why do we have to stop Ice King?"

"Sure, we could bail, but what about everyone else in Chaos Territory, Netherland, and Oceanus Kingdom? I don't care about their lives, but what Ice King is doing could spark conflicts again, throwing our hard-won peace into chaos," Oberon said, his voice tinged with helplessness.

Then, his gaze hardened. "We're fighting for world peace here, and you're sacrificing for it. You'll be a hero, remembered forever!"

Cassius's expression shifted. Oberon's passionate words made him consider the idea of sacrifice. But thinking about his level 450, he couldn't help but clench his fists.

At this level, he was close to his fifth job change. Plus, with his gold-tier rank, he'd be a powerhouse in the Vast Continent. If he had more chances, reaching higher levels wasn't out of the question.

"Don't try to brainwash me. I'll be myself. If you want me dead, let's see if you have the guts," Cassius roared, and a pair of ice-blue wings sprouted from his back. He flapped them and shot into the sky.

Just as he reached mid-air, a figure zipped across the sky, grabbed Cassius by the chest, and slammed him to the ground. "See? I told you Cassius wouldn't go down without a fight."

The one who acted was Kenneth; his level flashed: fourth job change, platinum tier, level 328.

Even though his level was a bit lower than Cassius's, in Ragnarok, rank always trumped level. A level 1 deity was stronger than a level 10,000 regular monster.

Basically, with everything else being equal, jumping one rank meant a huge boost in attributes.

"Cassius, you can't run. Don't disgrace the Sinclair Family," Finley stepped forward, and a formation appeared under Cassius's feet, spreading out.

Cassius said, "Finley, even you..."

Finley sighed. "Cassius, I hope you get it. With the ancient Jinse Empire coming back, Chaos Territory and Oceanus Kingdom are toast, and a world war's gonna kick off again. If someone has to take the hit, it's gotta be us."

"But I don't want to," Cassius gritted his teeth. He was already level 450, and dying like this was the last thing he wanted.

"If we had a choice, we wouldn't mess with Ice King either, but this isn't..." Finley said, "Oberon, do it."

Finley turned away, unable to watch.

Oberon licked his crimson lips. "Cassius, we'll remember your sacrifice for world peace."

Oberon bit into Cassius's neck, and Cassius's health points started dropping fast.

Out in the ocean, Alan, who was in a team with Cassius, suddenly saw Cassius's health points nosedive. He knew something was up.

"Royal Portal!" Alan stepped through the Royal Portal, landing right outside Sinclair Manor. He was about to step in when a massive formation sprang up, pushing him back.

"Divine Whip of Striking!" Alan's eyes narrowed. His body blurred, and the Divine Whip of Striking slammed into the formation.

With a loud bang, the formation shook but didn't break. Alan didn't care. This kind of formation was tougher than a platinum-tier weapon. His Divine Whip of Striking needed a few hits to break a platinum-tier weapon. To bust this formation, it would probably take about ten hits, maybe more.

"He's here," Finley said, looking seriously at the door.

In an instant, he and Kenneth attacked together, making Cassius's health points drop even faster.

After ten hard hits, with a loud bang, the Sinclair Family's formation shattered. It took less than a second.

"Hurry!" Kenneth was getting anxious.

Oberon's eyes flashed with an ice-blue glow, clearly using divine power.

With the divine power boost, Cassius's health points couldn't hold on and he was completely drained by Oberon.

"Your teammate Cassius has died." Just as Alan rushed into Sinclair Manor, he heard the system notification.

His fist clenched, and a surge of nameless anger shot through him.

Immediately, he heard Finley's frustrated voice. "Oberon, you bastard, stay here."

Alan rushed over, seeing a blood shadow darting in another direction of Sinclair Manor. Finley was chasing that blood shadow.

"Oberon?" Alan's eyes narrowed, his expression dark. The blood shadow was insanely fast, disappearing in a blink.

Alan arrived beside Cassius's body. The once chubby Cassius was now drained, looking almost comical.

But Alan didn't find Cassius funny, just himself. At the same time, that terrifying thought surged again, making him shiver.

It seemed like someone was really out to stop him, blocking him from getting the ten blessings of the Jinse Empire gods, and hindering the revival of the ancient Jinse Empire. For someone to manipulate things to this extent, it couldn't be a mere person—it had to be a god.
