Chapter 25 The Cunning Daniel

Alan put on the Eye of Purity and immediately felt the world become exceptionally clear.

From 20,000 feet away, he could see a mosquito flying and even the patterns on its wings.

This feeling was amazing!

Accuracy was crucial for an archer, and the Eye of Purity was a perfect match for Alan.

Not just at this stage, but even in the late stages of the game or during the era of the great catastrophe, the Eye of Purity would still be an incredibly powerful piece of equipment.

"Adventurer, was it you who killed Richard and Joseph?"

Daniel's eyes carried a peculiar meaning.

Alan had anticipated being discovered after submitting the task, so he did not deny it.

"Yes."

Daniel's gaze grew more complex. "Do you know that Richard and Joseph were David's disciples? If David finds out you killed them, he will definitely seek revenge."

Alan pretended to be terrified. "Daniel, what should I do? Maybe I shouldn't take on any more village tasks. Can you let me leave the newbie village now?"

Daniel waved his hand and smiled. "You don't need to worry. Although David is formidable, in this village, I have the final say."

With that, Daniel continued, "However, David is very ambitious and must be guarded against. I heard he's been getting close to the old drunkard at the tavern lately. That old drunkard often goes out to find ores for him."

Alan raised an eyebrow, sensing a new task coming.

"Daniel, what do I need to do?"

Daniel showed a look of approval. "It's simple; you go kill the old drunkard."

[Daniel has given you a task.]

[Task requirement: Kill the old drunkard.]

[Task penalty: None.]

[Task reward: Unknown.]

Alan was a bit worried. "Daniel, with my current strength, wouldn't killing the old drunkard be too difficult?"

Daniel nodded.

"That old drunkard does have some skills."

"But he's often drunk. If you can poison his wine, you might achieve unexpected results."

Hearing this, Alan felt troubled. "To be honest, I don't have any poison."

Daniel hesitated for a moment and took out a small bottle.

"This is a mandrake potion I've collected for a long time. It's colorless and tasteless. Just put it in the old drunkard's wine, and he won't notice it.

"Once poisoned, the old drunkard's combat power will be reduced by at least half."

Alan took the mandrake potion and smiled. "Alright, I won't let you down. I'll kill the old drunkard."

With that, Alan was about to leave.

But just then, Daniel suddenly called out to him.

"Ice King!"

Again, addressing him by name instead of "adventurer."

"You killed Richard and Joseph. Do you know who killed Elvus?"

Alan raised an eyebrow.

Sure enough, Daniel was suspicious of him.

"I don't know. After Ernest and I killed Richard and Joseph, we soon heard the news of Elvus being killed." Alan replied.

"I see." Daniel showed a meaningful smile.

Alan knew that a few words wouldn't earn Daniel's trust.

But that didn't matter.

Even if Daniel had suspicions, he would only suspect that Alan had some dealings with David.

After all, the only one who could threaten his position as the newbie village chief was David.

As for Alan, no matter how strong he was, it wouldn't matter.

Alan still had to head to Central City; he couldn't stay in the newbie village forever.

But what Daniel didn't know was that Alan had other options.

After leaving the village, Alan sent a message to Ernest. They had added each other as friends after completing their previous transaction.

At this moment, Alan noticed that Walter had sent him over a dozen messages.

Walter: [Ice King, I'm willing to offer two billion. Just come, and you'll be the president of Endless Conquerors.]

Walter: [Ice King, are you there? When are you coming to Central City to help me out? The price is negotiable."

Walter: [Ice King...]

Alan had been busy with his own matters, so Walter's messages were in Do Not Disturb mode.

Regardless, Walter was his first partner.

Alan replied: [Messages on Do Not Disturb, been busy.]

Then he followed the location Ernest had sent.

At this moment, Ernest was fighting a level 10 Twisted Treant.

Seeing Alan arrive, he finished off the treant in front of him and walked over.

"Ernest, what was the follow-up task Daniel gave you?" Alan asked.

Ernest knew he was already in the same side as Alan, so he spoke frankly, "Daniel asked me to protect the old drunkard at the tavern."

Alan's eyes narrowed as he heard that. "Today, Daniel gave me a task to kill the old drunkard."

"How can that be?" Ernest was a bit confused.

'One side wants to protect, the other wants to kill; this clearly doesn't make sense.'

Alan, however, already had a guess.

It was obvious that Daniel was trying to frame David.

The reason for this was likely related to the mandrake potion.

If his guess was correct, the mandrake potion wasn't Daniel's own but something he had stolen from David.

He wanted Alan to poison and kill the old drunkard, then have Ernest rescue him.

As long as Ernest could delay Alan a bit, the old drunkard might escape.

"Your task rewards and penalties must be significant," Alan said.

Ernest nodded. "Yes."

Alan said, "Since we killed Richard and Joseph together, Daniel knows we're in this together, so he gave you this task. It's a scheme."

Ernest thought for a moment and realized something, then asked, "From what you're saying, Daniel's order for you to kill is fake, and his order for me to save is real?"

Alan nodded. "Sort of. Daniel wants to win people over."

"How so?" Ernest asked.

"He gave me a poison to use on the old drunkard. If I'm right, this poison is unique to David.

"As long as I poison him and you rescue him, it will create a rift between the old drunkard and David."

Ernest was a bit shocked. "Sowing discord?"

"That's likely the case. My task has no penalties, and the rewards are unknown."

"Your task, on the other hand, has high rewards and high penalties. Daniel must think I'll help you."

Ernest took a deep breath, very surprised, "I never expected the newbie village's Daniel to be so cunning."

Alan chuckled, "In this game, NPCs aren't just ordinary AI."

"So what do you plan to do?" Ernest asked.

"Play along with Daniel," Alan smiled.

"As I said, it's a scheme. If I kill the old drunkard, it will harm you.

"Moreover, it's clear that Daniel has more influence in the village. If the old drunkard dies, this storyline might end."
