Chapter 167 He Is Truly Humble
"Sebastian was in a meeting when he got a message from Tyler, feeling pretty pleased with himself.
""Finally, someone's spending my hard-earned money. With a wife who loves shopping, I guess I need to work even harder."" He smiled, but by the end of the meeting, he hadn't received any transaction alerts.
He'd given Joyce a no-limit black card linked to his phone.
""Is Joyce not spending my money?"" he wondered and immediately called her.
No answer. So, he called Tyler.
Tyler picked up, and Sebastian heard loud screams in the background. ""Are you with Joyce? Why isn't she answering?""
Tyler laughed. ""She's busy watching a handsome guy sing with my wife.""
He turned the camera to show Joyce waving a glow stick in the crowd.
Sebastian gritted his teeth. ""Give her the phone.""
Tyler, teasing, said, ""Come on, she's having fun. Look at me, making my wife happy, taking care of the kid, and playing bodyguard. You should be more generous.""
""Shut up! I just left, and she's already out having fun. Wait till I get back!""
Tyler, expecting drama, called Joyce over and handed her the phone.
But as soon as Sebastian saw Joyce, his tone softened. ""Joyce, having fun?""
Tyler thought, 'Weren't you going to scold her? Why are you smiling like that?'
Joyce smiled. ""Yeah, I bought a lot earlier, and now I'm watching a show with Maya. What's up?""
""I just wondered why you didn't use my card. Are you mad at me and don't want to spend my money?"" Sebastian sounded almost pitiful.
Tyler laughed to himself, thinking, 'How much does this guy love Joyce? He calls just to ask why she isn't spending his money. He's really whipped.'
Seeing Sebastian's sad look, Joyce smiled. ""Buying you a gift with your money wouldn't be sincere.""
Sebastian's eyes lit up. ""You miss me that much? Thinking of buying me a gift right after we part? I'll make it up to you when I get back, okay?""
His tone made Joyce blush. ""Alright, I'll talk to you tonight. I'm watching the show now.""
Isabella, standing nearby, saw the whole thing and bit her lip in anger until she tasted blood.
As it got late, Tyler left with the kid. Maya and Joyce had a blast, listening to the singer and hitting the dance floor.
While resting on the sofa, a rich lady approached. ""Mrs. Green, we need one more for a card game. Want to join?""
Maya saw the lady, who often mingled with the Green Family. Maya was about to decline when Joyce said, ""You go ahead, I'll chat with Sebastian.""
""Alright, find me after your call.""
Joyce sat alone on a sofa in a quiet corner, texting Sebastian.
After a bit, a guy with blue earrings sat next to her. He smiled. ""Ms. Blackwood, mind if I sit here?""
Joyce looked up, her expression icy. ""Mr. Wilson, what do you want?""
This was Zachary Wilson, the second son of the Wilson Family and a notorious playboy in City B. Rumor had it, he'd been with enough women to circle the city.
Zachary picked up a glass of wine, smiling. ""I need your help with a case. Got time to discuss it?""
Joyce didn't hesitate. ""I'm off duty. Come to my office on Monday.""
""You're really something, Ms. Blackwood. Other lawyers are dying to take this case. It's a Wilson Family inheritance case, worth millions in commission. Not interested?""
Joyce sipped her drink, her voice cold. ""I don't need more cases or money.""
Zachary was left speechless. Seeing her cold demeanor only piqued his interest. He chatted briefly before leaving.
A waiter then approached Joyce, smiling. ""Miss, need a refill?""
Joyce didn't look up. ""Thanks.""
The waiter placed a cocktail in front of her and left quietly.
The banquet hall was lively, but Joyce's corner felt lonely.
It got late, and Joyce had drunk half her drink. Sleepiness set in. She tried to stand and find Maya but felt dizzy and almost hit the table.
Her vision blurred, and her body felt weak. She tried to call Maya but heard a familiar voice. ""Ms. Blackwood, feeling unwell? Let me help you rest.""
The voice was familiar, but she couldn't see the face. Joyce, always cautious, pushed the person away, mumbling, ""I'm going to find Mrs. Green.""
""Okay, I know where she is. I'll help you."" Joyce didn't resist and followed.
She was led through the crowd and into an elevator. As they walked, she asked, ""Why's it taking so long? Are you playing me?""
Isabella, dressed as a maid, had a triumphant look. She thought, ""Joyce, after tonight, Sebastian will never want you again.""
Thinking of the scandalous news tomorrow, Isabella was thrilled. She helped Joyce out of the elevator and towards a room at the end of the hallway.
Isabella took out a room card and opened the door. Just as she was about to bring Joyce in, she felt a strong push on her lower back, followed by sharp pain.
Isabella stumbled and fell into a man's arms. A sinister laugh echoed in her ears."
