Chapter 502 Unexpected Encounter with a Heartbreaker
Sophia noticed Joyce was getting a bit emotional, so she quickly smiled to calm her down.
"Didn't I learn this from you? Remember those two years you and Sebastian were apart? Did you ever take care of yourself and stop working? You wore yourself out several times."
Hearing this, Sebastian's heart ached, and he pulled Joyce into his arms.
He gently stroked her head with his large hand. "Why didn't you ever tell me about this?"
"It's all in the past. Why bring it up now?"
Sebastian kissed her forehead. "Are you trying to break my heart?"
Watching the couple's affectionate display, Alexander frowned slightly.
He said in a deep voice, "Alright, if you two want to be lovey-dovey, do it at home. Don't stand here being an eyesore."
Sebastian glanced at Alexander, a smile tugging at his lips. "Jealous, are we? Well, tough luck. You finally got a wife, and then you forgot about her."
"Sebastian, will you die if you don't bring that up?"
"No, but it's too funny not to remind you of it every day. Otherwise, it would be a waste of your amnesia storyline."
"Just take your wife and kid and leave. Sophia has a fever and shouldn't be overexerted."
"Fine, we're leaving. Take good care of her."
With that, Sebastian wrapped his arm around Joyce's shoulders and headed out.
Joyce stubbornly said, "Sophia has a fever. I want to stay and take care of her."
Sebastian kissed her lips with a smile. "You're so silly. Do you really think you're needed here? Can't you see someone wants to step up? Let's give him a chance."
The family of three said their goodbyes to Sophia and left.
The room suddenly felt much quieter with just Sophia and Alexander remaining.
The lively atmosphere from before had vanished, leaving Sophia feeling a bit awkward.
She stood up from the couch, her voice weak. "You should go too. I don't need anyone to take care of me."
She started to head towards the bedroom, but her vision went black, and she stumbled towards the coffee table.
Alexander quickly caught her in his arms.
He called out in a deep voice, "Sophia."
Sophia shook her head hard, and her vision cleared again.
She tried to push Alexander away. "I'm fine. Maybe just a bit of low blood sugar. You should go."
Ignoring her protests, Alexander carried Sophia into the bedroom.
He laid her down and sternly instructed, "Get some sleep first. If your fever doesn't go down, we'll go to the hospital for an IV."
Sophia wanted to refuse, but she was too exhausted. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she felt drowsy.
She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.
When Sophia woke up again, it was already the next morning.
She saw a white ceiling and realized she was in a hospital.
As she tried to sit up, a deep, hoarse voice spoke beside her.
"Don't move. You have an IV in your hand."
Alexander's handsome face leaned closer to Sophia.
His usually deep eyes had faint red veins.
Sophia's voice was raspy. "Why am I in the hospital?"
"You had a high fever last night that wouldn't go down, so I brought you here for an IV," Alexander explained, placing his large hand on Sophia's forehead. "It's gone down, but it's still around 99 degrees. The doctor said you're overworked and have an infection. You need to rest at home for a few days."
Sophia immediately protested, "No, I can't make the whole crew wait for me. It costs a lot of money every day."
"Sophia, are you really willing to risk your life for money? How much do you need? I'll give it to you."
"I don't want your money. I have my own hands and feet. I can earn it myself."
Alexander frowned in frustration. "I already called the crew. We're pausing for three days. I'll cover all the losses. Is that okay now?"
Hearing this, Sophia stopped arguing and lay back down. She looked at Alexander with lifeless eyes. "When I earn the money, I'll pay you back."
"Fine, I'll be waiting."
Two hours later, Sophia finished her IV, and her temperature was back to normal. Alexander took her out of the hospital.
As they reached the entrance, they saw several medical staff getting out of an ambulance. There were also police officers with them. Seeing this, Sophia understood that the patient was a prisoner. She didn't pay much attention and followed Alexander outside.
Lying on the stretcher, Daisy saw this scene and her eyes widened. Why was Alexander with Sophia again? Hadn't he forgotten about Sophia? How could they be together again? Thinking about the huge price she paid without getting the result she wanted, Daisy was furious. She struggled on the stretcher.
The medical staff were startled by Daisy's sudden movements and quickly steadied the stretcher. But they were a step too late. The stretcher crashed towards Sophia.
Alexander quickly pulled Sophia into his arms. The stretcher hit his lower back hard. Alexander couldn't help but grunt in pain. But he didn't care about his own pain. Instead, he looked at Sophia with concern.
"Are you hurt? Let me see," Alexander's voice was urgent, his eyes tense and anxious. It was clear he was overly concerned.
Seeing this, Daisy's heart ached even more. Tears streamed down her face. Daisy couldn't help but call out, "Alexander."
Hearing this, both Sophia and Alexander looked over. When they saw Daisy's face, Alexander's fists clenched involuntarily. His eyes filled with cold anger. Alexander looked at Daisy with no emotion.
Seeing such a cold Alexander, Daisy cried even harder. She looked at Alexander pitifully and asked through her tears, "Alexander, don't you remember me? I'm your sister, Daisy."
Alexander didn't show any sign of recognition. Instead, he smiled lightly. "My sister's name is Elodie. Miss, you must be mistaken."
