Chapter 524 Fireworks Confession
Edgar's heart skipped a beat.
He knew exactly what Paxon was hinting at.
The queen of Snowpeakia never got to choose her own husband.
Parliament had to nominate someone, and that person had to be of noble blood.
But Edgar's status made him ineligible.
The thought of Bianca marrying someone else tore at Edgar's heart.
As he came downstairs, Sophia rushed over and whispered, "Did you see Bianca?"
Edgar nodded, but his eyes were dull and lifeless.
Sophia didn't need to guess; she knew it hadn't gone well. She sympathized with him, "Don't lose hope. Bianca's here for a few days. I'll find another chance for you to get close to her.
Let's get you something to eat. You barely had anything for lunch."
Just as she was about to lead Edgar to the food, Alexander blocked their path.
Jealousy was written all over Alexander's face as he pulled Sophia into his arms, nuzzling her shoulder.
He whined, "Sophia, you don't care about me when I'm drunk, but you care about him?"
Sophia punched him lightly, "I didn't make you drink. Why should I take care of you?"
"It was those guys bullying me. Everyone else had their wives to help them, but I didn't, so I drank too much."
"Then you could have found someone here. I saw a few girls eyeing you. I'm sure they'd help you out if you asked."
"I don't want them. If I could do it all over again, I'd be devoted to you, Sophia. You're the only one I like."
Sophia's cheeks flushed at Alexander's sudden confession.
If it were the old, carefree Alexander, she would have kicked him away.
But the current Alexander, with his sincere eyes and earnest tone, made it hard for her to be harsh.
Sophia gently patted his back and coaxed, "You've had too much to drink. Sit down, and I'll get you something to eat."
But Alexander held onto her tightly, shaking his head.
"I don't want to eat. Walk with me for a bit, and I'll feel better."
With that, he took Sophia's hand and led her toward the lake.
As they passed Edgar, Alexander smirked at him.
Sophia, worried about Alexander's unsteady steps, turned to Edgar, "Get yourself something to eat. I'll be back soon."
Edgar waved her off with a smile, "Go ahead, don't worry about me."
Alexander led Sophia toward the back of the Winters Mansion, which was vast.
It had gardens, lawns, a helipad, a lake, and even a mountain.
The path up the mountain was dark, with only faint streetlights.
Sophia, still uneasy about the photo incident, stopped and said, "I'm wearing heels. Let's just walk around here."
Alexander immediately bent down, "There's a beautiful view up there. I want to show you. Come on, I'll carry you."
"It's dangerous. If we fall, we're done for."
Alexander laughed and hoisted her onto his back. "I could climb this mountain with my eyes closed. We used to play here all the time as kids, especially during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Our families would gather, the adults chatting and the kids running around. Connie was still with us then, and we were all close."
As he carried Sophia, he reminisced about their childhood.
At first, Sophia listened intently.
But then she realized something. Hadn't Alexander lost his memory?
Hadn't he forgotten his childhood friends?
How could he remember these things?
Sophia's heart tightened. She leaned close to his ear and asked, "Alexander, have you regained your memory?"
The question caught Alexander off guard.
He stopped in his tracks, puzzled. "I don't know. Seeing this mountain just brought back memories."
"Do you remember the lake? The day Daisy fell in and tried to blame me for pushing her. I almost got ruined, but I had evidence to clear my name. Do you remember that?"
Alexander shook his head firmly. "No memory of that."
Sophia continued, "You were the one who saved her. Our dads had a huge falling out over it. Our families almost broke apart. Don't you remember?"
Hearing this, Alexander's heart tightened.
He didn't remember the incident, but it must have been significant to cause such a rift. Sophia must have suffered greatly.
Alexander immediately asked, "Did I hurt you back then?"
"No, but Daisy became a thorn between us. With her around, we could never be together."
Alexander gritted his teeth. "Good thing she turned out to be a fake. Otherwise, she would have made your life miserable."
As they talked, they reached the top of the mountain.
The view from the pavilion was indeed beautiful.
They could see the entire Winters Mansion and the surrounding affluent neighborhood.
Sophia was lost in the stunning night view.
Suddenly, she heard a sound.
Fireworks exploded in the sky, their colorful bursts reflecting on the calm lake.
Sophia couldn't help but scream, "Someone's setting off fireworks! They're so beautiful!"
Alexander watched her excitement, a smile tugging at his lips.
He leaned close to her ear and asked, "Do you like it?"
"Of course! I didn't expect Sebastian to go all out with a grand party and fireworks. Bianca must be thrilled."
Hearing this, Alexander chuckled softly.
He gently pinched her earlobe and whispered, "Sophia, these fireworks aren't for Bianca. They're for my girl."
His lips were almost touching her ear as he spoke.
His warm breath sent shivers down her spine.
Sophia turned to look at him, stunned. Alexander's deep eyes reflected the colorful fireworks, making them even more captivating.
Sophia stared at him in disbelief. "What did you say?"
Alexander caressed her earlobe, his eyes full of emotion. "These fireworks are for the girl I like. Sophia, will you be my girlfriend?"
As he spoke, he pulled a diamond necklace from his pocket.
He placed it around Sophia's neck.
Then he cupped her face in his hands and slowly leaned in to kiss her.
