Chapter 543 Who Says I'm Old
Leonard's eyes widened when he heard those words.
He stared at Orla's pale face for a long moment before asking, "You've only been here a week, and you're already crushing on someone?"
Orla shook her head. "No, I fell for him two years ago. I came here just to be near him, but after meeting him, I realized he doesn't seem to like me at all."
Leonard, frustrated, gave her a gentle tap on the head. "Two years ago, you were just a kid. Instead of focusing on your studies, you're thinking about this nonsense. Forget about it and hit the books, or I'll tell Tyler."
"Uncle Leonard, please don't tell him. If he finds out, he'll definitely take me back, and it'll be hard for me to see that person again."
Tears welled up in Orla's eyes as she spoke.
Leonard could see she was genuinely upset.
Seeing her so distressed, he softened his tone and comforted her, "Alright, don't cry. I won't tell Tyler. But don't be stubborn. If he doesn't like you, no matter how hard you try, it's pointless. You'll only end up hurting yourself, got it?"
Orla nodded obediently. "I understand, Uncle Leonard. Do you have someone you like right now?"
"Why are you suddenly asking about me?"
"I heard from Maya that Joyce was your first love. Do you still like her?"
Leonard gave her a cold glance. "She's my sister-in-law now. Do you think I can still like her? If I crossed any lines, Sebastian would have broken my legs long ago."
"So, you don't have anyone you like, right?"
"No, kids shouldn't meddle in adults' affairs. Get some rest. Once the IV is done, I'll take you home."
Hearing this, Orla's previously sad face lit up with a smile.
She nodded obediently. "I understand, Uncle Leonard."
Two hours later, Orla's fever finally subsided.
The doctor checked her again, gave her some medicine, and advised her to rest at home.
Orla sat on the bed, her bright eyes fixed on Leonard as he talked to the doctor.
A smile played on her lips.
Leonard turned around and saw her grinning at him.
He walked over and ruffled her hair. "Why are you smiling like that?"
Orla looked up at him. "Nothing, just thinking how handsome and gentle you are, Uncle Leonard. That doctor was blushing and staring at you for a long time."
"You're imagining things. She was probably just hot. Let's go home."
Orla immediately got off the bed, grabbed Leonard's arm, and walked out with him.
Leonard frowned and glanced at her. "You're this excited to go home with me?"
"I miss your cooking."
"You little foodie."
Leonard ruffled Orla's hair again and held her hand as they left.
The night air was cool, and Orla, still weak from her fever, shivered as they stepped out of the hospital.
Leonard noticed her discomfort and turned to look at her.
Orla blinked at him, looking adorable and innocent.
Leonard immediately took off his jacket and wrapped it around her.
He instructed in a deep voice, "Wait here, I'll go get the car."
Orla nodded obediently.
Watching Leonard's retreating figure, she finally dared to sniff his jacket.
A faint mint scent filled her nose.
It was this scent that had stirred her heart two years ago.
In her loneliest and most helpless moment, Leonard had appeared before her.
He gave her warmth, helped her, and even caught the real culprit who had killed her parents.
Since then, Leonard had become a part of her life.
Orla studied hard and finally got into Snowpeakia's music academy, bringing her closer to Leonard.
Thinking about how she could be with him more often, Orla's lips curled into a smile.
Just then, Leonard's low voice reached her ears. "Why are you smiling like that? Get in the car."
"I am coming." She took small steps and got into the car.
The car sped through the quiet streets.
Orla wanted to seize this rare opportunity to talk to Leonard, but her body was too weak. She fell asleep shortly after the car started moving.
When she woke up, it was already the next morning.
Something furry seemed to be brushing against her ear.
Orla opened her eyes and saw Paxon grinning at her.
Seeing her awake, he immediately smiled and said, "Orla, Uncle Leonard said you were sick. Are you feeling better?"
"Much better, thank you."
Paxon quickly took out a few pieces of candy from his pocket and handed them to Orla. "These are from my aunt's wedding. I brought them for you. Am I good to you or what?"
Orla looked at the warm candy in her hand and smiled, ruffling Paxon's hair.
"Of course you are. Stick with me, and I'll make sure you have a good life."
"Really? Can you stay with me for the next few days? Grandpa, Grandma, and Dad all left, and I'm all alone here. Uncle Leonard has to work every day. He said he'd lock me in the dark room. I'm just a poor kid."
Hearing this, Orla couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't you go back with your dad?"
"Because I still want to go to Disneyland. Orla, when you get better, will you take me? Last time, Uncle Leonard took me, but he wouldn't let me go on the exciting rides. He lied and said kids couldn't go on them. I think he's just old and can't handle the thrill. But this old man won't admit it. It's really worrying."
Listening to him, Orla hugged Paxon and kissed him, then laughed. "You're so cute, I want to steal you away."
As they rolled around on the bed laughing, Leonard's voice suddenly came from behind them.
"Who's calling me old?"
