Chapter 511 Sincere Confession
Sophia's eyes widened for a moment. "What did you remember?"
"If I said nothing, would you believe me?"
Alexander gazed deeply into her eyes. He genuinely hadn't remembered anything; he was just drawn to Sophia.
Seeing her talk to other guys made him feel uneasy.
Seeing her hurt made his heartache.
When she got close, he wanted to hold her and kiss her.
All these signs pointed to one thing: he liked Sophia. It was a pure attraction, free from the constraints of an engagement or past lovers.
Hearing Alexander's words, Sophia stared at him in disbelief for several seconds, then let out a soft laugh.
"Alexander, it's not your fault that you lost your memory. You don't have to do things you don't want to because of the past. I want love, not pity. Do you get that?"
Alexander gently stroked her head. "Whether it's love or pity, you'll figure it out. I hope you can forget our past and give me another shot. This time, I won't let you down. Sophia, give me a chance, please?"
Sophia felt a sharp pain in her heart.
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
She cried and hit Alexander's chest. "Why do you get to forget me just like that? Why do you get to pursue me and expect me to agree? Why should my feelings be controlled by you?"
Seeing Sophia so upset, Alexander immediately wiped her tears.
He soothed her gently. "Sophia, I never wanted to control your feelings. Forgetting you was my mistake, but wanting to pursue you again is my true desire. This time, I'll take our relationship seriously. Please believe me."
"Why should I believe you? Before you lost your memory, you said the same things. But when I wanted to be with you, you forgot me.
Alexander, if you had forgotten everyone, I wouldn't mind. But you only forgot me. Do you know how much it hurt when you opened your eyes and didn't recognize me?
I almost got into a car accident while driving home alone. Why do you always come back when I'm ready to leave? Have you ever considered my feelings?
I'm a person with feelings too. I can't handle this back and forth. I just want a husband who loves me wholeheartedly and treats me well. Is that too much to ask?"
"Sophia, I'm sorry. It was all my fault. You have every right to reject me. If you want, you can make me pay for how I hurt you. Just please, don't cry. It breaks my heart."
Alexander held Sophia tightly, gently stroking her head.
It was the first time he had seen her so vulnerable.
He realized that beneath her strong exterior, Sophia had a fragile heart.
Sophia wiped her tears and looked up at Alexander.
"I'm not going to let you win me over so easily. If it's too easy, you won't cherish it."
Seeing her mood improve, Alexander smiled and brushed her cheek. "Alright, as long as you're happy. No more crying. I'll go catch some fireflies for you."
Hearing this, Sophia immediately said, "Be careful. Don't get bitten by a snake. I don't want to become a widow before we even get married."
Alexander laughed and hugged her. "Don't worry, that won't happen. Stay here and don't move."
"Be careful."
Sophia stood on a large rock, watching as Alexander took out a small box he had prepared. He opened the lid and chased after the fireflies.
Soon, the small colorful boxes were filled with the glow of fireflies.
They looked like little lanterns in the night sky.
Sophia held the lanterns, thrilled.
"Paxon and the others will be so happy to see these. Alexander, let's go back."
They carried the lanterns and took the boat back.
As soon as they got off the boat, Alexander bent down and unexpectedly lifted Sophia onto his back.
Sophia screamed, "Alexander, put me down!"
"Your leg is hurt. You shouldn't be walking."
"I'm not crippled. It's just a scratch."
"Even so, a scratch is still an injury. I'm a man; it's my duty to protect my woman."
"Who said I'm your woman? I haven't agreed yet."
They laughed and joked as they walked toward the tents.
Alexander's tent was the first one. He put Sophia down and whispered, "Elodie and Paxon are already asleep. Why don't you stay with me tonight?"
Sophia raised an eyebrow. "Alexander, don't get any ideas. We're not even together yet, and you want to sleep with me? Dream on."
"I just don't want to disturb them. You can sleep inside, and I'll guard the outside."
"No need. I'll be quiet. You sleep; I'm going back."
"Let me walk you over."
Alexander walked Sophia to her tent. Once she lay down, he returned to his own tent.
As soon as he walked in, he was hit by a strong smell of smoke, making him cough.
Seeing who was inside, Alexander cursed, "What are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
Tyler grinned mischievously. "I wanted to see how you're doing with your wife."
Alexander laughed, sitting on his mat and pulling out a cigarette.
He took a deep drag, a smile playing on his lips.
Julian, seeing him like this, teased, "Looks like things are going well. Tell us, did you kiss her yet?"
Alexander smiled with squinted eyes. "I'm planning to win Sophia back."
Hearing this, Julian patted his shoulder. "I've been there. Alissa hated me so much, but I still won her over. Let me tell you, to win a wife, you have to throw away your pride. Otherwise, it's tough."
Tyler chimed in, "Remember how Sebastian chased Joyce? He embarrassed himself in front of everyone, but he didn't care. Now he's so happy. You need that shameless spirit."
Alexander chuckled. "Alright, I'll learn from your shamelessness and win my wife back."
