Chapter 575 Meeting Grandfather

Wilhelmina was already on edge with Theodore getting closer.

Caught off guard by his direct question, she froze for a moment.

Staring into Theodore's intense eyes, her throat felt dry.

After a long pause, she forced a light laugh and tried to sound casual, "My mom was sick, and I didn't have time to book a train ticket, so I took a bus back. Why do you ask, Mr. Vale? Is there a problem?"

She knew train tickets could be checked, and if Theodore really doubted her, he could easily find out she hadn't gone back that night.

But buses were different; you didn't need an ID to get on the midway.

Seeing her evasive eyes, Theodore felt she was hiding something.

He stared into Wilhelmina's eyes for a while, then said, "Wilhelmina, if you're lying to me, you'll regret it."

Wilhelmina calmed her nerves and lowered her gaze, "Mr. Vale, I have no reason to lie to you, do I?"

She spoke so calmly that Theodore began to doubt his own suspicions.

They had a peaceful lunch, discussing work matters throughout.

When it was time to leave, Wilhelmina found an excuse to avoid going to Theodore's house. She didn't want any misunderstandings and preferred to keep her distance.

Theodore drove alone to pick up the kids.

When the teacher saw Theodore in his black coat getting out of the car, she ruffled Kaia's hair and said with a smile, "Kaia, your dad is so handsome, no wonder you're so pretty."

Hearing this, Kaia felt a surge of joy.

Kaia wished Theodore could be her dad; she really liked him.

Other kids had seen Theodore drop her off and also said her dad was handsome.

In such a happy atmosphere, she didn't want to spoil it.

Kaia knew it wasn't true, and she knew lying wasn't good.

But Kaia loved the feeling of having a dad, and she often woke up smiling from her dreams.

Kaia's bright eyes blinked at the teacher.

In a soft voice, she said, "Teacher, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I just..."

Before she could finish, Paxon covered her mouth.

Paxon took her hand, smiling with squinted eyes, "Kaia, your dad is here to pick us up. Let's say goodbye to the teacher."

He waved to the teacher, saying, "Goodbye, teacher," and pulled Kaia along.

Kaia ran after him, calling, "Paxon, slow down."

Paxon stopped and ruffled her hair, "Don't worry, I'll help your mom win over Theodore. Then Theodore will be your dad, and you won't need to apologize to the teacher."

Hearing this, Kaia nodded eagerly, "Thank you, Paxon. I really like Theodore and want him to be my dad."

"I know, and I'll make sure your wish comes true."

He held Kaia's hand and walked to Theodore, looking up at him, "Theodore, were you too busy dating to remember us? All the other kids have left."

Theodore looked at his mischievous face and pinched his cheek with a smile, "There was some traffic. I apologize to both of you."

He ruffled Kaia's hair, "Kaia, my dad heard a pretty girl was coming over today. He's so excited and prepared a lot of food. Are you happy?"

Kaia's eyes sparkled with happiness, and she nodded, "Yes, I even prepared a gift for Mr. Vale."

Theodore was surprised and smiled, "Really? What did you get for Grandpa?"

"That's a secret for now."

Seeing her cute expression, Theodore laughed, "Whatever it is, Grandpa will love it. Let's get in the car."

Paxon held Kaia's hand as they got into the car.

When they arrived at the Vale family home, Darren was already waiting in the yard.

Theodore had never brought kids home before.

Darren thought something must be up.

Theodore seemed gentle, but he was quite solitary in private.

He rarely got close to people, let alone other people's kids.

Hearing the car, Darren smiled.

He heard footsteps running towards him.

Paxon held Kaia's hand and looked up at Darren, "Grandpa, this is Kaia, a very pretty girl. She's Theodore's pretty secretary's daughter."

In two sentences, he introduced Kaia's background.

Darren laughed heartily.

"Come here, Kaia, let me give you a hug."

Kaia jumped into Darren's arms without hesitation, her soft hands gently touching his face.

Staring at his unfocused eyes, she said softly, "Mr. Vale, Paxon said you can't see. Kaia can visit you often and be your eyes."

Hearing her soft voice and feeling her gentle touch, Darren was moved.

His eyes welled up with tears.

He gently patted Kaia's head, smiling, "Kaia, you're so thoughtful. How could I not like you? I wish I had a granddaughter like you."

Kaia took a small bell from her backpack and put it on Darren's wrist, "Mr. Vale, I made this bell bracelet for you. Since you can't see, you can listen to the sound. It makes a lovely noise when you shake your wrist."

Darren shook his wrist, and the bell made a clear, pleasant sound.

He smiled, "I love this gift, Kaia. You're so thoughtful. Let's go inside. Grandpa has prepared lots of food for you."

The two kids each held one of Darren's hands, guiding him like little bodyguards.

Darren couldn't stop smiling.

The usually quiet house became lively.

The kids ate, played, and even sang for Darren.

Theodore felt a warm feeling inside.

No wonder Sebastian told him that having kids was exhausting but joyful.

It really was like that.

After dinner, Theodore had some work to do and went to his study.

Paxon took Kaia to his room to play.

Kids their age were curious about everything.

When Paxon saw a delicate box on Theodore's nightstand, his eyes widened.

Why would Theodore have a girl's jewelry box?

Could it be a gift for Kaia?

Curious, Paxon carefully opened the box.

Inside was a beautiful earring with a blue gemstone.

It sparkled and looked lovely.

Wouldn't it look even better on Kaia?

Paxon called out to Kaia, who was drawing, "Kaia, come here."

Kaia put down her things and ran over, "Paxon, what is it?"

Paxon whispered in her ear, "These are earrings Theodore bought for you. Try them on and see how they look."

Hearing that Theodore bought her a gift, Kaia's eyes widened with excitement.

She looked at the earrings.

When she saw them clearly, she was surprised, "Why do these earrings look just like my mom's?"
