Chapter 549 So Enthusiastic

Smith's throat felt like it was filled with scorching hot sand, rough and raspy enough to make anyone's skin crawl.

The way he called her "wife" was almost surreal, making Bianca momentarily believe they were as loving as any ordinary couple.

Bianca's cheeks were still burning from the kiss, and hearing those words made the heat intensify.

Her eyes were slightly red as she looked at Smith, her voice still hoarse from the passionate kiss.

"You went a bit too far today."

Smith looked at her with a mischievous smile and couldn't resist biting her lip again.

He laughed and said, "Alright, I'll tone it down. Let's go get some food."

He led Bianca back to the group.

Paxon noticed Bianca's flushed cheeks and blinked his big eyes, asking, "Aunt Bianca, are you hot? Why is your face so red?"

Bianca smiled and pinched his cheek, "It's nothing, it'll go away soon."

Paxon looked at Bianca, then at Smith, who had a smile playing on his lips, and nodded knowingly.

"I get it. Uncle Smith kissed you, and that's why you're blushing."

Smith chuckled and ruffled Paxon's hair, "How did you figure that out?"

"Because Orla blushes too when she sees..."

He was about to say Orla blushes when she sees Uncle Leonard, but Orla quickly covered his mouth.

Leonard laughed and asked, "What makes her blush?"

Orla immediately gave a nervous laugh, "Uncle Leonard, you believe everything kids say?"

Leonard looked at them suspiciously, "Are you two hiding something from me?"

Orla and Paxon shook their heads in unison, "Nope."

"You better not be, or you'll see how I deal with you."

Bianca had a burn and couldn't go diving, so after dinner, they took Paxon to the aquarium.

Then everyone went home.

As soon as they entered the palace, the secretary came over to report, "Your Majesty, Kirk Gutierrez has been waiting for you in the reception room for half a day."

Bianca nodded slightly and then looked at Smith, "I have some business to attend to. You go ahead."

She was about to turn away when Smith grabbed her wrist.

Smith's eyes locked onto hers, "Is it official business?"

"No, it's personal. He's an old partner of mine from here."

Smith brushed her hair gently, his voice warm, "Then he's your friend. We're married now, so your friends are my friends too. You go ahead, I'll have dinner prepared. I want to give him a proper welcome."

Bianca was a bit surprised, "You're really that enthusiastic?"

Smith smiled at her, "Don't you trust your husband?"

The word "husband" made Bianca's heart skip a beat.

From the start, she hadn't expected much from this marriage, thinking the best they could hope for was a peaceful coexistence.

But Smith's thoughtfulness was surprising, making their relationship feel more real.

He always called her "wife" and himself "husband."

It gave her the illusion that they weren't in a political marriage but had come together out of love.

Bianca lowered her gaze and said softly, "Do as you wish."

With that, she walked towards the reception room.

As soon as she opened the door, Kirk stood up and walked over to her.

"Bianca, are you okay?"

His voice was filled with an uncontrollable urgency.

Bianca smiled, "I'm doing just fine."

Kirk's smile was bitter, "Marrying someone you don't love, how fine can you be?"

"I'm not a twenty-year-old girl anymore, dreaming of marrying for love. How many people in real life actually marry for love? Especially in my position, entering this palace means I'm destined to sacrifice my life for politics."

Hearing her words, Kirk looked at her with a pained expression, "But you didn't say that five years ago. You were full of hope for love back then. I don't know what happened to make you change."

Bianca's eyes darkened, and she said softly, "Because back then, I thought I had found love. But it turned out I was wrong. So I no longer believe I'll ever have love in this life. If it weren't for political needs, I wouldn't have married at all."

Hearing this, Kirk clenched his fists tightly.

He hated his own weakness, his indecision.

He had liked Bianca since their school days.

But he could sense that Bianca only saw him as a friend.

Kirk had subtly tried to find out, and the answers confirmed his suspicions.

So, to maintain their friendship, he buried his feelings deep inside.

Over the years, Kirk had felt the urge to confess several times.

But he feared that once he spoke, they wouldn't even be able to remain friends.

Now, seeing her married to someone she didn't love, his heart ached.

He thought it would have been better if she had married him. At least he could treat her well, at least he loved her.

Kirk's heart was filled with a sour pain, and his voice grew hoarse, "Bianca, you're such a wonderful woman. You deserve the best love, not a cold, loveless marriage."

Just as he finished speaking, the door opened.

Smith stood at the entrance, dressed in a sharp suit.
