Chapter 527 Dangerous Confrontation
Alexander clenched his fist tightly.
In a cold voice, he said, "Jason?"
Jason laughed. "Yeah, it's me. You've been looking for me, right? Well, let's finally meet face to face."
"If you hurt her, I'll make sure your mom collects your corpse."
Jason's laugh turned sinister. "You care about her that much? Daisy loved you so much, and today I want to see how much you love her. I'll send you an address. Come alone. If you call the cops, I'll blow your precious girl to pieces."
He hung up and sent Alexander a location, along with a photo of Sophia.
Seeing the photo, Alexander broke out in a cold sweat.
Sophia was tied to a pillar, strapped with explosives.
He had researched Jason's background.
Jason was a chemistry genius who had made explosives as a child and blown up his own house. He now worked as a manager in a chemical company's R&D department. But after Daisy's incident, he had vanished without a trace.
Alexander had sent several teams to find him, but they all came back empty-handed.
He never expected that, despite all his precautions, Sophia would still end up in danger.
Half an hour later, Alexander kicked open the door of an old factory.
He stood at the entrance, dressed in black.
The moment he saw Sophia, it felt like a thousand knives were stabbing his heart.
He immediately shouted, "Sophia!"
Sophia had just woken up. Seeing Alexander, all her fear surged back.
But she knew Jason was a madman capable of anything.
She desperately shook her head at Alexander. "Alexander, don't come any closer. He has a remote."
Alexander didn't stop; he walked even faster.
Just as he was about to rush over, Jason stepped out from behind a pillar.
With a sinister smile, he said, "Take one more step, and I'll make sure both of you die here, as a tribute to Daisy."
Alexander froze, glaring at Jason with fierce eyes.
"Let her go. I'll be your hostage. Daisy's death has nothing to do with her; it's all my fault."
"You're lying! If she hadn't suspected Daisy was a fake, Daisy wouldn't have been kicked out of the Cross Family and wouldn't have died so tragically. It's all Sophia's fault. She wanted to take you from Daisy and did everything to frame her. Without her, Daisy would still be the Cross Family's princess, living a carefree life. I could still see her every day, not separated by life and death."
Hearing this, Alexander frowned. "You love Daisy?"
"Yes, I've loved her since we were kids. But her heart was always with you. She even risked her life several times to keep you. She loved you so much, yet you still cruelly kicked her out of the Cross Family."
"She brought it on herself. If she hadn't tried to harm Elodie and Sophia, she could have continued being the Cross Family's princess without anyone discovering she was a fake."
Jason was nearly hysterical. "It's all because of you! Daisy loved you so much that she tried to get rid of Sophia and Elodie. Without them, you would have been hers alone. So, I want her to feel the pain of losing a loved one."
He pulled out a remote from his pocket and toyed with it.
Alexander sensed the danger.
Sophia was strapped with explosives. If they were triggered, no one could save her.
Alexander quickly tried to reason with Jason. "What do you want? Just tell me, and I'll do it. Just don't hurt her."
Jason, wary of snipers, stayed behind Sophia. If a bullet came, it would hit her first, triggering the explosives. No one would leave alive.
Jason sneered and threw a knife at Alexander. "You say you love her, huh? Then die in front of her. If you die, I'll let her go. I want her to feel the pain of losing you."
Sophia shook her head frantically. "Alexander, don't listen to him. He's a madman. My life doesn't matter. I don't want you to die."
Alexander picked up the knife, unsheathed it, and glared at Jason. "Fine. I hope you keep your word."
He raised the knife, about to stab himself, but suddenly threw it at Jason. The knife hit Jason's arm, making him drop the remote. Alexander rushed over and grabbed it.
Just as he was about to attack Jason, Jason laughed maniacally. "Impressive, Alexander. Daisy always said you were a fighter. I was prepared for this. I have another remote. Want to see which one is real?"
Alexander froze, not daring to move. Given Jason's evasion skills, both remotes could be real. He couldn't gamble with Sophia's life.
Alexander forced himself to stay calm. He looked at Jason. "Jason, it's not too late to stop. The place is surrounded by SWAT. You can't escape."
Jason's face darkened. "I never planned to escape. I just want revenge for Daisy. Sophia can't have what Daisy couldn't. She caused Daisy's death and my loss. So, I'll make her feel the pain of losing you. Thirty seconds. If you don't act, I'll blow her up."
Jason pulled the knife from his arm, seemingly unfazed by the pain. He threw the bloody knife at Alexander. Holding the remote, Jason began counting. "Thirty, twenty-nine, twenty-eight..."
With each number, Sophia's heart ached more. She shook her head desperately, tears streaming down her face. "Alexander, please, don't die. I can't bear to lose you."
Seeing her cry so heartbreakingly, Alexander's head throbbed. Memories flooded back: their playful banter, Sophia being framed and injured, their time on a dating show, and Sophia confronting Daisy. Their love and hate flashed before him. He remembered everything. Their past was filled with joy and conflict. He owed Sophia so much. Despite everything, she forgave him. To expose Daisy, she nearly died. Alexander remembered it all.
He looked at Jason with cold eyes. "Why should I believe you? What if you don't keep your word?"
Jason continued counting, "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three..."
With two seconds left, Alexander stopped him. "Wait. I'll do it. Just keep your word."
He raised the knife, looking at Sophia with a familiar smile. "Sophia, if there's a next life, will you marry me?"
Sophia screamed, "Alexander, no! I don't want you to die."
"Sophia, tell me. If there's a next life, will you marry me?"
"I don't want a next life. I want this one. I'll marry no one but you. Please, don't die. If you die, I'll die with you."
Sophia cried her heart out. She couldn't imagine life without Alexander.
Seeing her pain, Alexander smiled. "That's enough for me. If there's a next life, I won't hurt you."
He stabbed himself in the chest. Blood flowed from the wound.
Sophia screamed, "Alexander, no! Don't die!"
