Chapter 587 Meeting Grandfather

Joyce's eyes widened in surprise. "When did you find out? Why didn't you tell me?"

Sebastian looked at Joyce's delicate face, hesitating for a moment before answering, "I found out a while ago, but I didn't know how to break it to you."

"Why? Is it someone I know?"

Joyce's quick thinking hit the nail on the head.

Since Sebastian had known for a while but hadn't mentioned it, it meant this person was closely connected to her.

Otherwise, there was no reason for Sebastian to keep it from her.

Joyce quickly pieced it together in her mind and then stared into Sebastian's deep eyes, asking, "Is it Darren?"

Sebastian smiled and kissed her lips. "As expected, my wife is so smart. Just a hint, and you figured it out. I ran into him by chance last time I was in Snowpeakia and found out he was blind.

But he told the butler to tell us it was from a car accident.

He hadn't been in any car accident, so I realized he had donated his corneas to me.

But you were already over seven months pregnant at the time. I was worried that knowing this would upset you too much and be bad for you and the baby, so I didn't tell you then.

Joyce, he was afraid that my blindness would cause trouble for you and the kids, so he sacrificed his own sight.

He didn't want to tell you because he was worried you'd be torn between gratitude and resentment. He just wanted you to be happy, nothing more."

Sebastian spoke each word carefully, afraid Joyce might think he was trying to persuade her.

After a long pause, he continued to watch Joyce.

Finally, she slowly lifted her eyes and said emotionlessly, "I understand. Let's go to sleep. I'm tired."

Joyce tried to pull away from Sebastian's embrace, but he held her tightly.

He kissed her lips and said hoarsely, "I'm sorry, honey. If I hadn't gone blind, you wouldn't be in this dilemma. I'm not trying to make you forgive him; I just wanted to tell you the truth."

"I know. I didn't overthink it. Let's sleep."

Joyce seemed fine, but as she lay in bed, she couldn't sleep, tossing and turning.

Her mind was filled with the complicated history between her and Darren.

He had said such hurtful things to Isabella, even making her gentle father, Benjamin, hit him twice.

He had also helped Isabella escape from prison, almost getting her and Paxon killed.

All these grudges, though long past, were still vivid in her memory.

Joyce also remembered the scene of her mother being killed. If Darren hadn't cheated, her mother wouldn't have died, she wouldn't have been thrown into the river, and she wouldn't have had the traumatic childhood with her foster mother.

Thinking about all this, Joyce felt a pang in her heart.

This person had been fading from her memory.

But why did it have to be him who donated his corneas to Sebastian?

Even though he didn't ask for anything in return, it put her in a difficult position.

She had to admit that if Sebastian had really gone blind, it would have caused significant trouble for her and the kids, and their lives wouldn't be as happy and joyful as they were now.

Joyce felt grateful deep down.

But this gratitude couldn't balance out the resentment in her heart.

She was sleepless that night.

Sebastian gently stroked her back for a long time before she finally fell asleep.

The next morning, as soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Paxon in his pajamas, lying on the bed, watching her.

He propped his chin on his hands, his big, bright eyes blinking adorably.

Joyce ruffled Paxon's hair and asked hoarsely, "Why are you staring at Mommy like that? Something wrong?"

Seeing her awake, Paxon immediately threw himself into her arms and kissed her cheek.

He smiled and said, "I'm going to preschool later, and I won't see you all day, so I want to look at you a bit more."

Joyce hugged him and kissed him back. "Then Mommy won't be able to kiss you all day either, so I'll kiss you a few more times."

Feeling Joyce's love, Paxon's smile grew even brighter.

He wrapped his arms around Joyce's neck, laughing nonstop.

Sebastian walked in just in time to see this scene.

He walked over and playfully smacked Paxon's little butt, laughing. "What are you doing, sneaking kisses from my wife while I'm not around?"

Paxon turned to look at him, seriously saying, "When my wife is born, I'll let you kiss her too. How about that?"

Sebastian burst out laughing at his words and hugged both of them tightly.

"I won't kiss anyone else. In this life, besides my wife and daughter, I won't kiss any other woman."

Hearing this, Paxon smirked mischievously. "I'll tell Grandma what you said later. She'll definitely scold you. She raised you with so much care, and you say you won't kiss her. You're such an ungrateful son."

Caught by Paxon's words, Sebastian laughed and playfully bit his wrist.

"You're the ungrateful one. I treat you so well, and you still want to tattle on me. I'm an adult now; do you really want me to hug and kiss your grandma?"

"Why not? She's your mom. No matter how old you are, she's still your mom. By your logic, when I grow up and have a wife, I can't kiss my mom anymore?"

"We'll see when you grow up. Let's see if you still want to kiss her then."

The three of them cuddled and played for a while before getting up.

After dropping Paxon off at school, Sebastian was about to head to work when he got a call from Joyce.

"Honey, I want to take Zaid and Ingrid to visit my mom."

Hearing this, Sebastian understood what Joyce meant.

He smiled with relief. "Wait for me. I'll be home soon."

He knew his Joyce always had a clear sense of priorities.

When he got home, Joyce was ready, and Zaid and Ingrid were awake.

Seeing him return, the two little ones waved their arms and babbled excitedly.

Sebastian walked over, kissed Joyce's forehead, and said, "I talked to Theodore. He's expecting us and has arranged lunch. We'll eat there and come back afterward. Is that okay?"

Joyce nodded lightly.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Darren was overwhelmed with emotion upon hearing the news.

He had waited so long for this day.

His daughter had finally agreed to come home.

Even if she used the excuse of visiting her mom, it was enough for him.

Darren wiped away his tears and said, "Theodore, is this outfit okay? Does it look too formal and make Joyce feel pressured?"

Theodore laughed. "Dad, you've changed outfits several times already. If you keep this up, I'll get dizzy. This outfit was picked by Sebastian. Don't you trust his taste?"

Darren nodded repeatedly. "I trust him. He's my son-in-law, of course, I trust him. Hurry and get the kitchen to prepare the dishes Joyce and Sebastian like. Remember, Joyce is still nursing, so no spicy food."

"Got it. The butler has already gone shopping. Just sit here and wait."

Half an hour later, the sound of a car came from the yard.

Darren sat on the couch, gripping his cane tightly, his face lighting up with joy.

"Theodore, they're here."
