Chapter 498 Intense Guilt
Sophia entered the room, took out the first aid kit, and bandaged Manuel's arm. Then she said, "You helped me a lot today. I'll treat you to dinner another day."
Manuel smiled bitterly, "But no matter how much I help you, I feel like you won't forgive me for what happened that day."
"That wasn't your fault. I never blamed you."
"But my mom hit you because of me. This has always weighed on my mind. I don't know how to make up for the hurt I caused you."
Sophia laughed nonchalantly, "You helped me find a heart for Elodie. Doesn't that make up for that little incident?"
Manuel looked deeply at her, "Has Alexander remembered you?"
Sophia poured a glass of water and handed it to Manuel, saying calmly, "No."
"So what are your plans for the future? After all, you have feelings for him, but he doesn't for you. It's unfair to you."
"Fair or not, it's all in the past. I don't want to think about anything now, just focus on my career. Men are not as important to me as my career."
Manuel smiled faintly, "I hope you truly think that way."
As they were talking, the doorbell rang.
Sophia immediately went to open the door. When she opened it, she saw Alexander standing there with a bag of things.
Sophia was a bit surprised, "What are you doing here?"
Alexander glanced at Manuel sitting on the sofa and said in a cold voice, "If he can come up, why can't I?"
After saying that, he walked past Sophia and went inside, taking out the things from the bag and placing them on the coffee table.
In a low voice, he said, "Elodie’s painting for you, you forgot to take it. I brought it up for you."
Sophia then remembered the painting.
When Elodie gave it to her, she specifically told her to open it at home.
She was instantly curious and slowly unrolled the painting.
When she saw the content, Sophia was stunned.
It wasn't just her in the painting, but her and Alexander.
Alexander was bending down, looking at her, one hand holding her chin, the other in his pocket, his eyes filled with a mix of roguishness and deep affection.
Sophia's heart couldn't help but tighten.
She had to admit, Elodie had a great talent for painting, capturing Alexander's likeness very well.
Especially his deep and affectionate eyes.
It felt like someone had stabbed Sophia's heart.
She wanted to put the painting away immediately, but Alexander's low voice came to her ears.
"Did I ever kiss you like this before?"
Sophia immediately turned around, falling into Alexander's deep eyes.
Alexander was staring at her intently.
His eyes held emotions that Sophia couldn't understand.
He leaned forward, his gaze level with hers, his handsome features magnifying in front of her.
Sophia's heart was hit hard.
But she quickly collected herself, pushed Alexander away, and said coldly, "Are you crazy?"
Alexander smirked, "Does amnesia count as being sick? If it does, then I'm very sick, forgetting the most important person in my life."
Alexander spoke calmly, without much emotion.
But his eyes held a strange emotion.
It made Sophia unable to figure him out.
The old Alexander, when he was up to something, Sophia could see through him at a glance.
But the current Alexander was different from before.
His eyes were deep, his emotions hidden.
It made it hard for Sophia to guess what he was thinking.
Like now, she didn't know if Alexander's words were a joke or if there were other emotions behind them.
Sophia glanced at him, her face expressionless, "If you can forget so thoroughly, it means it wasn't important, right?"
Alexander had no response to her words.
He could feel all her grievances from her eyes.
Although Sophia hid it well, he could still see that she cared a lot about him forgetting her.
A strong sense of guilt suddenly arose in his heart.
Alexander's eyes darkened, and his voice became hoarse.
"But I want to find the part I forgot. Can you help me?"
Hearing this, Sophia was stunned for a moment, then chuckled lightly, "You can't find it back, and there's no need to. You've delivered the painting, you can go now."
After saying that, Sophia walked to the door and opened it, clearly indicating for him to leave.
Alexander looked at Manuel and said in a deep voice, "Didn't you see she wants you to leave?"
Manuel was amused by Alexander's words, "If I understand correctly, Sophia wants you to leave."
"Sophia is a public figure. Staying with a man late at night, aren't you afraid of causing trouble for her, Mr. Watson?"
Alexander's righteous words left Manuel speechless.
Manuel smiled, walked to Sophia's side, and said gently, "I'll go now. You should rest early."
Sophia nodded, "Be careful with your arm, don't get it wet. I'll treat you to dinner another day."
"Okay."
Watching their interaction, Alexander's lips curled into an almost imperceptible cold smile.
Alexander walked to the door and looked at Sophia, "Is there nothing you want to say to me?"
Sophia raised an eyebrow, "Take care."
After saying that, she pushed him out and closed the door.
Alexander stood at the door, looking at the closed door, then at Manuel who was smiling, and couldn't help but say, "What are you smiling at, looking so smug?"
"I'm not smug, just a bit sympathetic towards you. You were about to reconcile with Sophia, but then you lost your memory and forgot everything about her."
"Are you trying to take advantage of the situation?"
Manuel chuckled, "You don't remember Sophia. Do you expect her to stay loyal to you forever? Sophia has the right to pursue her own happiness. It doesn't have to be you."
Alexander's lips curled coldly, "Sophia has the right to pursue happiness, but that person won't be you."
"Who it is doesn't matter. What matters is that she's closer to me than to you now, and that's enough."
In the car, Alexander still felt stifled, as if a lump of anger was stuck inside him, unable to be released.
He called Sebastian.
Sebastian, who was telling a story to Joyce and Paxon, answered the call immediately.
"What, you finally remembered me?"
Alexander took a drag of his cigarette and asked in a deep voice, "How long did I date Sophia before? Why did she forget me so quickly?"
Hearing this, Sebastian chuckled, "Want to hear the truth?"
"Of course."
"Not even a day."
