Chapter 604 Mr. Vale Suspects
Wilhelmina felt utterly humiliated.
Her own father had treated her like a commodity, willing to sell her off as a mistress for the right price.
She let out a bitter laugh, her eyes fierce as she looked at Brian. "You don't need to report him. I'll find a lawyer myself. I'm cutting all ties with you. From now on, I won't have anything to do with you."
Turning to the officer, she said, "I'm not paying his medical bills. Follow the legal procedures. I have no relation to him."
With that, she walked out of the police station.
Brian, realizing she was serious, cried out behind her, "Wilhelmina, do you really want to see me die? There are so many enemies of mine in prison. If I go in, they'll kill me."
Wilhelmina didn't even turn around, her voice cold. "You have nothing to do with me now."
Ignoring Brian's continued cries, she walked straight out of the station.
The autumn wind wasn't particularly cold, but it felt like knives against Wilhelmina's face.
Her heart ached deeply.
Her biggest dream growing up was to have a happy family.
A loving father, a mother who liked her.
She didn't need a lot of money or pretty dresses like other kids.
She just wanted her parents to love her.
But even that simple wish was unattainable.
She grew up with a father who gambled and owed debts, and a mother who worked tirelessly to pay them off.
When her father lost money gambling, he would come home and abuse them.
Her mother's weakness kept their family on the brink of collapse.
Wilhelmina had worked hard to get a scholarship for college and a good job, hoping to escape that home.
But then she unexpectedly got pregnant.
Because she loved the child, she couldn't bring herself to terminate the pregnancy.
She planned to leave Theodore and move to another city, but then her mother fell seriously ill.
She had to return home, heavily pregnant.
After her mother passed away, she stayed in her hometown, working and raising her child while still paying off her father's gambling debts.
Determined not to let Kaia suffer like she did, she left her hometown with her daughter.
But fate had her cross paths with Theodore again.
Reflecting on her life, tears streamed down Wilhelmina's cheeks.
She had always tried to live her life, always tried to escape that home, but Brian had found her again.
To ensure Kaia's future wouldn't be disrupted, she had to make this decision.
Wilhelmina steadied her emotions, wiped her tears, and took out her phone to call a friend.
"Help me find a lawyer. I need to file a lawsuit to sever ties with my father."
Seeing her slender figure and hearing her trembling voice, Theodore felt a pang of sorrow in his heart.
He sympathized with Wilhelmina's plight and was disgusted by Kaia's grandfather.
He walked over and gently patted Wilhelmina's shoulder. "If you don't mind, my sister is a lawyer. She never loses a case. I can arrange for you to meet her."
Wilhelmina gave a bitter smile. "No need. I have evidence of his gambling and abuse over the years, and records of the money I've sent him. I don't think this case will be difficult. No need to trouble Ms. Blackwood."
"Alright. I'll make sure they give him a heavy sentence so he stays in prison longer. You and Kaia won't be bothered."
"Thank you. I'm sorry you had to witness this today."
Theodore looked at her red eyes, his gaze deepening. "Let's go. Pull yourself together and get back to work. I'll handle the rest."
Feeling his warmth, Wilhelmina felt a pang of sadness.
She liked Theodore, but she knew they could never be together.
Her background and family situation made her far from his best choice.
Wilhelmina walked into her office and threw herself into her work.
Soon, Brian's impact on her was replaced by the demands of her job.
Just past noon, the office phone rang.
She quickly answered, "Mr. Vale, what can I do for you?"
"Wilhelmina, come to my office."
"Yes, sir."
She hung up and headed to the CEO's office.
Opening the door, she saw Theodore alone, reading a document.
Wilhelmina approached and asked softly, "Mr. Vale, what do you need?"
Theodore slowly lifted his head, his eyes gentle.
"Order two lunches from Sip & Savor, a French dessert, and a lemonade."
Wilhelmina quickly took out her phone and placed the order. "It's done. It'll be here in half an hour. If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."
"Alright."
Half an hour later, Wilhelmina knocked on Theodore's office door with the lunch.
Sebastian was also there.
She nodded politely. "Mr. Winters, Mr. Vale, lunch is ready."
Sebastian looked at Theodore in surprise. "When did you become so considerate, ordering lunch for me? But I'm afraid I'll disappoint you. I have to go home for lunch with my wife. I haven't seen Zaid and Ingrid all morning. I miss them terribly."
Theodore glanced at him, then around the room. "Okay, you can leave now. I want to eat."
Sebastian chuckled. "Theodore, as your long-time friend, let me give you some advice. Never get married or have kids. It's exhausting, and you never get enough sleep. That kind of bittersweet happiness is something you'll never experience."
Theodore kicked him lightly. "Then hurry up and leave. I want to eat."
Sebastian stood up, noticing the two lunches and the girly drink. He smiled knowingly. "Alright, I'm leaving. Enjoy your meal."
After he left, Wilhelmina placed the lunch on the table, surprised. "Mr. Vale, Mr. Winters left. Isn't this lunch wasted?"
Theodore glanced at her. "I never intended for him to eat."
"Then who is this lunch for?"
"For you."
Wilhelmina was taken aback, staring at him in surprise.
Seeing her reaction, Theodore walked over, bending down to look her in the eye.
Staring into her beautiful eyes and smelling the faint floral scent on her, Theodore was momentarily stunned.
Why did these eyes seem so familiar?
Why did this scent make him want to be close to her?
It even reminded him of that night.
He asked in a deep voice, "Wilhelmina, did you really go back to your hometown the night of the company party four years ago?"
