Chapter 603 Severing Ties

Wilhelmina's heart skipped a beat when she heard the question.

Why was Theodore asking this? Had he found out something, or was it just a random question?

Trying to stay calm, she replied, "July."

Theodore frowned and looked at her. "You quit my company in January, so you were already three months pregnant then?"

Wilhelmina lowered her head. "Yes."

Theodore glared at her, clearly upset. "You knew you were pregnant and still went with me to the mountains for research? Those roads were dangerous. What if something had happened?"

"I didn't know at the time."

It wasn't that she didn't know; she simply wasn't pregnant yet.

She and Theodore had been together that night in December.

Kaia was born prematurely at seven months.

So, from this point, Theodore wouldn't be able to figure anything out.

Theodore angrily knocked her on the head. "Are you serious? You didn't even know you were pregnant. Luckily, nothing happened, or I would have been responsible."

As they drove to the office, Wilhelmina's phone rang.

She answered it directly.

"Hello?"

"Hi, are you a relative of Brian Fairfax? He got into a fight and is now at the police station. You need to come over immediately."

Wilhelmina's face turned pale upon hearing this.

She quickly turned to Theodore and said, "Mr. Vale, I have a family emergency. I need to take the day off and can't go to work with you. Please drop me off at the next intersection."

Theodore frowned. "What's going on?"

"It's nothing. I can handle it."

Theodore could tell from her expression that it wasn't as simple as she said.

He suddenly remembered the time Wilhelmina had been injured by her father.

He asked in a deep voice, "Is it your father?"

Wilhelmina's eyes were already filled with tears.

She didn't want Theodore to see her dysfunctional family, nor did she want him to interfere in her life.

She shook her head and said, "He's sick and in the hospital. I need to go see him."

"Which hospital? I'll take you."

"No need. I'll take a cab."

"Wilhelmina, are you sure you can get a cab right now?"

Wilhelmina was speechless.

It was rush hour, and they were in the city center.

Getting a cab would take forever.

She lowered her eyes and said in a hoarse voice, "He got into a fight and is at the police station."

Upon hearing this, Theodore immediately turned the car around and headed to the police station.

As soon as they walked in, they saw Brian sitting on a chair, his face covered in bruises.

A police officer was taking his statement.

When Brian saw her, he immediately smiled. "Officer, my daughter is here. She has money. She can pay for the medical bills. Please don't send me to jail."

Seeing his shameless face, Wilhelmina clenched her fists tightly.

Her hatred grew stronger.

This scene reminded her of her childhood, when her mother often faced similar situations.

Her mother always helped Brian solve his problems.

Now that her mother was gone, all these issues fell on her.

Wilhelmina didn't know how to describe her feelings at that moment.

Having a father like Brian was a burden she could never escape.

If Brian found out Kaia was Theodore's child, who knows what he'd do.

He'd definitely gamble even more and use the child as leverage to extort money from Theodore.

She knew Brian too well.

The officer looked at Wilhelmina and asked in a serious tone, "Ms. Fairfax, your father Brian owes money and not only refused to pay but also injured the victim. The victim is now hospitalized with a broken right leg. The family wants compensation."

He handed her the statement and the hospital diagnosis.

Seeing these documents, Wilhelmina's eyes turned red as she looked at the officer. "What happens if I don't pay the compensation?"

"Then the victim's family will sue, and your father might go to jail."

Without hesitation, Wilhelmina said, "Let him go to jail. I don't have money to clean up his mess. I have a daughter to raise."

Brian angrily cursed at her. "Wilhelmina, you ungrateful brat! I raised you, and now you don't care if I live or die. How can you live with yourself?"

Wilhelmina glared at him coldly. "Did you raise me? All you did was gamble and beat me and Mom. Have you ever done anything a father should do? After Mom passed away, you turned me into your ATM and followed me here from our hometown.

I told you last time that I wouldn't deal with your problems anymore. From now on, whether you live or die has nothing to do with me."

Seeing her so heartless, Brian tried a different approach, crying and pleading with Wilhelmina. "Wilhelmina, don't abandon your father. You're my child. If you don't help me, your mother will worry. Just pay the money, and I promise I'll never gamble again."

Wilhelmina sneered. "Do you think I believe you? How many times have you said that to Mom? Did you ever stop?"

Seeing that neither threats nor pleas worked, Brian became desperate.

He suddenly stood up from the chair and rushed towards Wilhelmina, ready to slap her.

Just as his hand was about to hit her face, a large hand grabbed his wrist tightly.

A cold, sinister voice sounded in his ear. "Try hitting her."

Brian looked up and met Theodore's icy gaze.

Seeing his expensive clothes and dignified appearance, Brian knew this man was wealthy.

His eyes lit up, and he immediately smiled. "Are you her man? I'm her father, and I'm in trouble. Give me some money, and I'll let you marry her. If you have a wife, she can be your mistress. Just give me money, and my daughter will do anything."

Hearing these words, Theodore felt a sharp pain in his heart.

This was Wilhelmina's father, Kaia's grandfather.

How had they lived before?

Thinking about Kaia telling him she had hidden in a cabinet watching Brian beat Wilhelmina, Theodore felt heartbroken.

Such a young child, experiencing such a life.

Theodore tightened his grip, making Brian's bones crack.

Brian screamed in pain. "Stop! You're going to break my bones! Are you her man or not?"

Theodore sneered. "If you ever bully them again, I'll make you pay!"

With that, he pushed Brian, who fell to the ground, cursing in pain. "Wilhelmina, you wretched girl! Where did you find this jerk to deal with your father? I'll sue you for not supporting your parent and make you face legal consequences."
