Chapter 584 Uncle's Secretary
Theodore couldn't help but laugh at the two kids.
He never imagined that at his age, after being pressured by his father to get married and teased by friends for being single, he would now have two kids trying to find him a partner.
And it was a buy-one-get-one-free deal.
He turned his gaze to Sebastian, furrowing his brows in exasperation. "Did you teach him to say all this?"
Sebastian snorted lightly. "I might have taught him, but he sure knows how to say it. You know your nephew, right? That mouth of his could talk a dead person back to life."
"So you're saying I'm dead?"
"No, you're not dead. You're not even a person. You're a bachelor who needs my three-year-old son to help you find a wife."
"Sebastian, I'm still your brother-in-law. Can't you show me a little respect?"
Sebastian chuckled and patted Theodore's shoulder, his voice unusually pleasant. "Bro, just go along with Paxon’s idea. That way, Joyce and I won't have to worry about you all the time."
The word "bro" sent shivers down Theodore's spine.
He kicked Sebastian in frustration. "Get lost, and stop talking nonsense in front of the kids."
As the two were bantering, a woman's voice suddenly interrupted them.
"Kaia." Everyone turned to look at the source of the voice.
Theodore immediately noticed a stunningly beautiful girl standing there.
Why did her face seem so familiar?
He stared at her intently, and a shadow from his memory suddenly emerged.
Wasn't this Wilhelmina, the intern who worked as his secretary years ago?
How could she have a child already?
Wilhelmina also froze for a moment when she felt Theodore's gaze.
Her hands clenched into fists involuntarily but quickly relaxed.
Wilhelmina walked over confidently and nodded with a smile. "Mr. Vale, long time no see."
Theodore responded coolly, "It has been a while. I didn't expect your child to be this big already."
Wilhelmina led Kaia and nodded at Sebastian. "Mr. Winters, thank you for looking after Kaia. How much did the clothes cost? I'll transfer the money to you."
Sebastian had met Wilhelmina before, back when she was an intern at Theodore's company. She was his secretary.
He replied indifferently, "It was my son who got your daughter's clothes wet. It's only right to compensate. No need to pay."
Wilhelmina smiled. "Kids playing together, it wasn't intentional. How about this, I'll treat you all to dinner sometime. We won't bother you anymore today. We'll be leaving now."
Kaia looked at Theodore reluctantly and waved. "Mr. Vale, think about what I said, okay? Paxon has my smartwatch number. You can call me when you've decided."
Seeing how close Kaia was to Theodore, Wilhelmina felt a bit panicked.
She quickly bent down to pick her up, speaking softly. "Kaia, say goodbye to Mr. Vale and Paxon. We need to go home now."
"Goodbye, Mr. Winters, Mr. Vale, Paxon. Thanks for dinner!"
As they watched Wilhelmina and Kaia leave, Sebastian gave Theodore a meaningful look.
"Why don't you consider the kids' suggestion? At least she's someone you know, and you both understand each other."
Theodore glared at him. "Are you done yet?"
Sebastian chuckled. "Are you still waiting for that person? It's been years. She might be married with kids by now."
"I'm not waiting for anyone. I just don't want to find someone. Is that so wrong?"
"No, it's your life, your choice. But Mr. Vale is eager to have grandkids."
"He has two grandsons and a granddaughter. Isn't that enough?"
Sebastian fell silent for a moment before saying, "He hasn't seen Zaid and Ingrid yet. Now that Joyce has recovered, I want to find a chance to talk to her about it."
Theodore looked worried. "Will she forgive you? If she can't get past it, making her face the conflict might be even more cruel."
"I believe Joyce will forgive. She's a mother of three now. She sees things more clearly."
"Leave it to you then. I'll wait for good news."
They left the restaurant and drove home.
For some reason, Theodore's mind kept flashing back to scenes of Wilhelmina as his secretary.
"Mr. Vale, this milk tea is really good. Want to try some?"
"Mr. Vale, we're on a business trip to such a beautiful place. Isn't it a waste not to have some fun?"
"Mr. Vale, your tie is crooked. Let me fix it for you."
"Mr. Vale, I prepared dinner for you. See if you like it."
"Mr. Vale, I couldn't find the woman you asked for that night."
"Mr. Vale, I'm getting married. Here's my resignation letter."
Wilhelmina's soft, playful voice echoed in Theodore's mind.
Wilhelmina was an intern he hired four years ago. She was smart and had a way with words.
Everyone at the company liked her.
Out of five interns, she was the only one who passed the assessment.
But just as he was about to notify her of her acceptance, she resigned, saying she was going back home to get married.
So she gave up a job in the big city for love?
And now she was a single mom.
Was she deceived or divorced?
Theodore couldn't help but want to know more.
Driving home from the Winters Mansion, Theodore's phone suddenly rang.
Seeing it was an unknown number, he hung up.
But the phone rang again after a few seconds.
He answered, "Who is this?"
A little girl's crying voice came through. "Mr. Vale, it's Kaia. Can you help me? Mommy got hurt. She's covered in blood. I'm so scared."
Hearing Kaia's sobs, Theodore felt a sharp pain in his heart.
He immediately replied, "Kaia, don't cry. Tell me your address, okay?"
"38 Maple Street, Happy Community, 3-501. Mr. Vale, please hurry."
