Chapter 590 Go Back to Work

Hearing this, Theodore's eyes grew misty.

He couldn't fathom the impact of such a scene on a three-year-old child, nor could he imagine the kind of life Wilhelmina and her daughter had endured over the past three years.

He held Kaia tightly in his arms, gently stroking her head, and softly reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll stay with you tonight."

He carried Kaia to another bed, tucked her in, and kissed her forehead. "Close your eyes and sleep. I'll be right here."

Kaia had never felt such tender love from a man before. She looked at Theodore with excitement.

She didn't want to close her eyes because she loved Theodore's touch—it was so gentle, like a father's.

But her mom had told her that Theodore had someone he liked, and they shouldn't ruin someone else's happiness.

Kaia hid her little excitement and softly said, "Goodnight, Theodore."

Then she obediently closed her eyes.

She felt a large hand holding her small one, its warmth like a cozy harbor, making her reluctant to fall asleep.

But eventually, she couldn't resist the drowsiness and slowly drifted into dreamland.

Seeing her asleep, Theodore finally got up and went to check on Wilhelmina.

When Wilhelmina opened her eyes, it was already the next morning.

Theodore was asleep, leaning on the side of her bed.

He was wearing a black shirt, without a tie, and had unbuttoned the top two buttons, revealing his sexy collarbone.

His long hand was still tightly holding Wilhelmina's.

Seeing this, Wilhelmina felt a pang of sadness in her heart.

She wished she could sleep forever, so she could always have Theodore.

But dreams eventually end.

The man she loved would ultimately leave her.

Wilhelmina slowly closed her eyes for a moment, just as she was about to pull her hand away, Theodore woke up.

His eyes were a bit red as he looked at her, his voice hoarse, "You're awake. How do you feel?"

Wilhelmina shook her head slightly, "I'm fine now. Thanks, Theodore. I'll treat you to dinner another day."

Theodore's lips twitched, "Why are you still the same, keeping things so clear-cut? Are you that afraid of owing me a favor?"

Wilhelmina lowered her gaze, "Theodore, you're a distinguished person. Having you stay with me for a night makes me feel uneasy. I don't know how to repay you."

Theodore glanced at her, "You want to repay me?"

"Yes, but besides dinner, I can't think of a better way."

"I have a better way. Want to give it a try?"

"What way?" Wilhelmina looked at him in surprise.

Theodore smiled, "Someone in my company's secretary department resigned. I need a capable person, and I recognize your work ability. Work for me, and we'll call it even."

Wilhelmina refused without thinking, "I won't go. Thanks for your kindness, Theodore, but I'll find another way to repay you."

"Wilhelmina, do you want to go back to Spencer and be manipulated by him? Do you know how dangerous it was for Kaia to be left alone at home last night?"

Wilhelmina knew it was Theodore who had helped her.

She wanted to agree to his request so badly.

But she feared that spending more time with him would stir up those buried feelings again.

Kaia's true parentage would be exposed.

She didn't want to do that, didn't want to cause him any trouble.

Wilhelmina looked at Theodore, her tone firm, "Theodore, thank you for your kindness, but I won't work for you. I'll resign from Spencer's job. With my skills, finding a job to support my family won't be difficult. I just don't want to trouble you."

Theodore looked at her, puzzled, "Wilhelmina, logically, you were my employee. Now I'm offering you a better job, you have no reason to refuse. Why don't you want to work for me? Are you hiding something from me?"

"No," Wilhelmina replied immediately.

"Then report to work tomorrow, or I'll suspect you're hiding something from me."

Faced with Theodore's relentless pressure, Wilhelmina had no choice.

If she continued to resist, Theodore's intelligence would surely lead him to question Kaia's parentage.

She thought for a moment and said, "I have a child. I can't work overtime. If my child gets sick, I need to take leave. I'm worried I can't handle the job."

Theodore looked at her pitiful face, wanting to comfort her.

But he restrained himself, clenching his fist, "Wilhelmina, do you think I'm a cold-hearted boss?"

"No, I'm just worried my situation will affect my work."

"It won't. I'll make arrangements. Just focus on your work."

They reached an agreement, and Theodore immediately took out his phone to call his assistant, asking him to bring over an employment contract.

He wanted Wilhelmina to sign it right away, fearing she might change her mind.

He didn't know why he was so invested in her, why he wanted to help her.

Maybe it was because he saw how hard it was for her to raise a child alone. After all, he had three kids himself.

He could empathize.

After signing the contract, the assistant smiled, "Wilhelmina, we'll be working together again."

Wilhelmina smiled, "Please take care of me."

When Kaia opened her eyes, she saw this scene.

She didn't understand what a contract was, but she knew her mom was going to work at Theodore's company.

She was so happy.

She immediately climbed out of bed, ran to Theodore, and said with a smile, "Theodore, you're so good to us. I feel like kissing you."

She hugged Theodore's neck and kissed him.

Then she nestled in his arms, her little face gently rubbing against his shoulder.

Seeing this, Wilhelmina immediately stopped her, "Kaia, don't cling to Mr. Theodore Vale. Mommy will wash you up and take you to school."

Kaia reluctantly left Theodore's arms.

She looked at him eagerly, "Theodore, will I see you often?"

Theodore smiled and ruffled her hair, "Yes, I'll often pick up Paxon. We'll have chances to be together."

"Really? Can you take me to school today?"

"Sure, I'll take you to school."

Wilhelmina wanted to object, but Theodore had already taken the child.

They went home together to change Kaia's clothes, then headed to the preschool.

Seeing such a handsome man holding Kaia, the teacher smiled, "Kaia, who is this? He's so handsome."

Kaia was about to answer when she heard Paxon behind her.

"Teacher, Kaia is my sister. This man is my uncle. So, who do you think he is to Kaia?"
