Chapter 602 Kaia's Birthday
Theodore looked at the drawing, and an inexplicable sense of happiness welled up in his heart.
Kaia's drawing was quite childlike, with long hair representing women and short hair representing men.
But the picture revealed what was in her heart.
She wanted a family, a home with a dad and a mom.
To make her wish less obvious, she added Paxon to the side.
Seeing this drawing, Theodore felt a pang in his chest.
A child longing for a father, yet carefully protecting her thoughts from being discovered.
Her maturity and her longing made Theodore's heart ache.
He smiled and ruffled Kaia's hair, saying, "This is great. I'll keep it. How about I take you out for dinner after school?"
Kaia's bright eyes glanced over at Wilhelmina.
Seeing her mom shake her head, her excitement quickly faded.
She lowered her eyes and gently shook her head, saying, "No need. Mom and I have plans tonight. Maybe another time."
But Paxon saw right through her little act.
He looked up at Theodore and said, "Theodore, Kaia is lying. She really wants to go, but she's afraid her mom won't let her."
Theodore looked at Kaia and asked, "Why won't your mom let you go?"
Kaia pouted and said, "Mom says you have someone you like and won't become my dad, so she doesn't want me to have that idea. But, Theodore, I really like you. I just want to spend more time with you. It doesn't matter if you become my dad or not."
Tears filled her bright eyes as she finished speaking.
Seeing this, Theodore's heart ached.
He didn't know why, but ever since he met Kaia, she had occupied his thoughts.
When she cried, he felt pain. When she smiled, he felt joy.
Theodore immediately comforted her softly, "I like you too. Don't worry about your mom. Let's make a deal. Tonight, come to my place. There's a grandpa there who loves kids, especially little girls."
Hearing this, Kaia quickly wiped her tears and said, "Theodore, I'll be very good. I'll even help you with chores."
Seeing her so sensible and sweet, Theodore's heart ached even more.
He couldn't help but kiss her cheek and said with a smile, "Then we'll see each other tonight, okay?"
"Okay, Theodore, you have to come pick me up."
"Don't worry, I won't break my promise."
Wilhelmina watched this scene, feeling a pang in her heart.
The power of blood ties, indeed.
Ever since Kaia met Theodore, she dreamed of him.
Even though she explained many times that he couldn't be her dad, Kaia still liked him.
She liked being with him.
Wilhelmina walked over, frowning slightly, and said, "Kaia, Theodore is very busy. Don't be so willful."
Kaia, who had been so excited, immediately lowered her head upon hearing Wilhelmina's words.
Tears started to fall.
Seeing this, Theodore glared at Wilhelmina and said, "Making her cry first thing in the morning, you can't be this cruel."
Wilhelmina quickly said, "Mr. Vale, you have a dinner party with Owen Fitzgerald tonight. You don't have time."
"Cancel everything. What's so great about a dinner party? Hanging out with kids is way more fun, right, you two cuties?"
Paxon nodded enthusiastically, "Yeah, yeah! Kaia and I can bring you joy, Theodore. It's something money can't buy."
Hearing this, Theodore smiled and ruffled Paxon's hair, "Our Paxon sure knows what to say, much better than some adults. Now, hurry up and take Kaia to class. I'll pick you up tonight."
Paxon obediently nodded, holding Kaia's hand, "Don't worry, Theodore. I'll protect Kaia."
Watching the two kids walk away, Wilhelmina felt a bit embarrassed, "Mr. Vale, Kaia is spoiled by me. I'm really sorry for the trouble."
Theodore gave her a cold look, "Get in the car. Tell me about Kaia's father."
Hearing this, Wilhelmina froze.
Her hands at her sides clenched involuntarily.
Theodore noticed her tension and softened his tone, "I don't mean anything by it. I just want to know more about Kaia. Don't you think she really longs for a father's love? No matter what happened between you and that man, the child's upbringing should come first.
A father's love is crucial in a child's growth. It shouldn't be missing just because the parents don't get along. What's the deal with that man? Why doesn't he care about the child?"
Faced with a barrage of questions, Wilhelmina didn't know how to respond.
She had thought about how to handle this since the first time she met Theodore.
But seeing his concern, she really wanted to tell him that Kaia was his daughter.
She thought that if this child stayed with him, the girl Theodore had been waiting for might never return.
Then all his years of waiting would be in vain.
Wilhelmina bit her lip and said softly, "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Vale. I'll handle my relationship with him."
Theodore frowned at her, "Does he not want the child?"
"No, I never told him about the child."
Hearing this, Theodore's eyes darkened, and his tone grew cold, "So you left because you were pregnant with another man's child, and that man doesn't even know the child exists, right?"
Facing his questioning, Wilhelmina tried to stay calm.
Theodore was very smart. A slight mistake and he would figure out the truth.
If it weren't for her alibi that day, he might have already suspected Kaia's parentage.
She lowered her eyelashes and said, "We're adults. There's no need to make him pay for a mistake. I'm not that naive. Kaia is my child. I'll raise her. I don't need anyone's help."
Theodore, frustrated, knocked on Wilhelmina's head. He knew she was very stubborn.
He sighed in disappointment, "If that's your choice, I have no right to interfere. If you need anything, I'll help as much as I can."
Hearing this, Wilhelmina finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She smiled and nodded, "Thank you, Mr. Vale. I'll work hard."
They drove to the company.
Halfway there, Theodore suddenly asked, "When is Kaia's birthday?"
