Chapter 623 Accusing Brian
In such a blissful moment, seeing the man who had once brought her countless nightmares, Wilhelmina didn't know how to describe her feelings.
There was anger, sadness, and above all, disbelief.
He was supposed to be in prison. How could he be standing here?
Theodore immediately stepped forward and embraced her, comforting her softly, "Don't worry. I'll have him taken back right now."
He signaled to his assistant, who promptly had Brian restrained.
Brian struggled and cried out loudly, "What are you doing? Trying to shut me up? I worked hard to raise Wilhelmina. Don't I have the right to be at her wedding? Is this how you rich folks treat Wilhelmina's father? Everyone, look at this! My own daughter, trying to kick me out."
The guests, all from the elite circles, couldn't help but start whispering among themselves.
"This is what happens when you marry into wealth, trying to cover up a poor past. I've seen this kind of drama many times."
"I didn't expect Wilhelmina to be this kind of person. Kids from the lower class really lack manners. Theodore gave her such a grand wedding, and this is how she repays him."
"Compared to Phoenix, she's not even close. Being poor isn't the problem; forgetting your roots and abandoning your parents is. Such a daughter is truly heartless."
Hearing the murmurs, a cunning look flashed in Brian's eyes.
Today, he was determined to cause a scene and force Wilhelmina to publicly acknowledge him as her father. With the Vale Family backing him, he wouldn't have to worry about money anymore.
Tears streamed down his face as he spoke, "Our life may have been tough, but I treated her like a treasure. I always gave her the best food and sent her to a good college. I earned those tuition fees through hard labor. I never thought that after marrying into wealth, the first thing she would do is abandon me. My heart aches so much."
He cried bitterly, his sorrow seemingly genuine.
Instantly, the guests' interest was piqued.
Some began recording videos on their phones, while others started live streaming.
The wedding quickly turned into a public condemnation of an ungrateful daughter abandoning her father.
Wilhelmina stood on the stage, looking at Brian's hateful face.
Her heart was bleeding.
She had been too merciful.
When Brian was imprisoned for fighting, she had wanted to sever ties with him forever.
But when she learned he was facing several years in prison, she softened.
She had even hoped Brian would repent and change in prison.
It seemed she had been too naive, overestimating their familial bond.
Theodore gently stroked her cheek and said in a deep voice, "Someone must have paid the victim's medical bills and compensation, which led to the charges being dropped. I'll investigate this thoroughly. If you don't mind, I'll have him removed right now."
Tears welled up in Wilhelmina's eyes as she looked up at Theodore.
Choking back her tears, she asked, "Theodore, do you regret marrying me?"
Theodore kissed her forehead tenderly and said, "How could I? You are you, and he is him. I won't compare the two of you."
"But he's causing you so much trouble and letting people know you have such a relative. Don't you feel embarrassed?"
"No, I love you for who you are, regardless of your background or family. I don't care about others' opinions. I only care about your feelings. As long as it doesn't hurt you, I'll do anything."
Hearing this, Wilhelmina's tears flowed freely. She stood on tiptoe and kissed Theodore's cheek.
With tearful eyes, she looked at him and said, "Thank you. But I won't let people misunderstand you. Even if it means revealing my painful past, I'll do whatever it takes for you."
She then took a phone from the bridesmaid and handed it to Theodore, saying, "Help me connect the phone to the big screen."
Theodore knew what she intended to do.
He looked at Wilhelmina with concern, "Are you sure you can handle this?"
"With you by my side, I'm not afraid of anything."
Theodore kissed her lips and looked deeply into her eyes, "Alright, go ahead. I'll always be your strongest support. With your husband here, there's nothing to fear."
He quickly connected the phone to the big screen.
Wilhelmina found a set of photos in her phone's album.
She opened them immediately.
The big screen displayed a mother and daughter, beaten black and blue, covered in injuries.
The mother's hair was disheveled, and her clothes were torn.
Her face was bruised, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
The girl, barely in her teens, also had various wounds.
It was clear that the girl was Wilhelmina.
Seeing the photos, everyone was shocked.
Even Brian, who had been shouting moments ago, was now at a loss.
Wilhelmina picked up the microphone, her gaze cold as she looked at Brian and said, "This is me and my mom when I was fifteen. You lost money gambling and wanted to use me as a debt payment to an old man. My mom fought desperately to save me.
This photo was taken by a journalist at the time. They urged us to call the police, but my mom feared it would provoke you further. She endured it and borrowed money to pay off your gambling debts.
Brian, have you forgotten? Do you think someone who would use his own daughter as a debt payment deserves to be called a father or invited to her wedding?"
Hearing Wilhelmina's words, the guests began pointing fingers at Brian.
The big screen showed more photos of Wilhelmina and her mother being beaten, along with proof of them paying off Brian's gambling debts.
She worked part-time in college to pay off his debts.
Even when she was pregnant, Brian extorted money from her.
Seeing the evidence, Theodore's heart ached.
He couldn't fathom how Wilhelmina had endured such a father and background, yet remained optimistic and cheerful.
He tightly grasped Wilhelmina's hand.
His eyes reddened as he looked at her, his voice hoarse, "Wilhelmina."
Wilhelmina looked up at him, shook her head slightly, then spoke into the microphone, "Ms. Blackwood, can these evidence be used to charge him with domestic violence?"
Joyce, who had been standing below the stage, nodded and said, "Yes, I'll handle this. I'll have him restrained and file a lawsuit. Don't worry, I won't let him ruin your wedding with Theodore."
She then turned to her husband, Sebastian, and said, "Honey, please allow me to take on a case during my maternity leave."
Sebastian patted her head, "Go ahead. I'll take care of things here."
Joyce walked over to Brian, her voice cold, "My client Wilhelmina is charging you with domestic violence. As her lawyer, I'm filing a lawsuit against you. Brian, please come with us."
