Chapter 599 Sharing the Same Bed
Leonard couldn't bear to say no when he saw her sad puppy-dog eyes.
He smiled and ruffled her hair. "You can't just say stuff like that. The person who's gonna protect you forever is your future husband. Uncle Leonard can only look out for you now. When you grow up and get married, someone else will naturally take care of you."
Orla thought he was being naive and didn't dare to say more.
She was afraid that if she revealed her true feelings, she wouldn't even have the chance to be close to Leonard.
She needed to make him fall for her slowly.
Orla nodded obediently, her voice soft and sweet. "Uncle Leonard, can I stay at your place in the future? My dorm mates snore, and I'm a light sleeper. I always get woken up and can't fall back asleep.
I thought about renting a place, but my grandma said it's not safe. So, if you don't mind, Uncle Leonard, I could move in with you. That way, you won't be lonely either."
Leonard didn't think much of it when he saw Orla's pleading eyes.
What she said was true. Ever since her parents' incident, Orla had suffered from depression for a long time.
People with depression usually have poor sleep.
If her sleep continued to be bad, it could trigger her condition again.
Leonard gently patted her head. "Alright, but I'll have to ask Tyler for rent and caretaker fees."
Orla was overjoyed at his permission.
But she worried that Leonard might see through her intentions, so she suppressed her excitement.
Her bright eyes were fixed on Leonard. "Uncle Leonard, I'll be very well-behaved and won't cause you any trouble."
Leonard chuckled. "You're quite sensible. Now go to sleep. I have to work tomorrow."
Orla blinked a few times and asked, "Uncle Leonard, I'm on break for the next few days and have nothing to do. Can I help out at your company? Your assistant is on leave, right? I can fill in and be your driver. Is that okay?"
Leonard laughed. "You, my driver? I still want to live a few more years. Remember the last time you were learning to drive? You almost killed me."
"That was just an accident. I have my license now. If you don't believe me, I can show you tomorrow."
"Let's not. You're a menace on the road. I have to think about others, not just myself."
"So, does that mean Uncle Leonard agrees to let me be your assistant?"
"What else can I do? Leaving you alone at home with no relatives or friends, Tyler would blame me for not taking care of you."
Orla hugged Leonard's neck, her beautiful eyes filled with undisguised excitement.
She was going to work with Leonard and live under the same roof.
She couldn't believe she had no charm to win Leonard over.
"Uncle Leonard, let's sleep. I'll get up early to go to work with you tomorrow."
Leonard saw her smiling so adorably and couldn't help but frown slightly. "Going to work with me makes you this happy? You must have been really bored these past few months."
"Exactly. I don't have any family or friends here. Many of my classmates from back home go to bars and clubs, but I'm not into that. So, I feel very lonely."
"You've got good self-control. Your grandma did a great job raising you."
"Of course. I have to stay pure for my future husband. Nightclubs are just places where guys try to take advantage of you. I might even get drugged and lose my virginity. I wouldn't be that foolish."
Leonard found her words both amusing and touching.
In today's complex society, especially in a place like Snowpeakia, it was rare for someone like Orla to hold onto her family's teachings and stay out of trouble.
He patted her head a few times, feeling proud. "You're quite sensible. A girl should know how to respect herself to be loved in the future. Your family taught you well. Keep it up."
Orla's eyes curved into a smile as she looked at him. "Uncle Leonard, do you like me like this?"
Leonard didn't think much of it. He just felt that this kind of liking was no different from liking Paxon.
He smiled and said, "Which parent wouldn't like such a cute and sensible kid? Uncle Leonard isn't senile yet."
"So, Uncle Leonard likes me, right?"
"Yes, I like you."
Even though Orla knew that the kind of liking Leonard was talking about was different from what she wanted.
But so what? It was still the same answer.
As long as it came from Leonard's mouth, she was satisfied.
One day, she would turn this liking into unwavering love.
Orla smiled and said, "I like you too, Uncle Leonard. I like you very, very much."
Leonard tapped her head. "Should I celebrate being liked by the little princess of the Green family?"
"Yes, you should be grateful. I don't like just anyone."
"Alright, go to sleep. If you want to be my assistant, you have to listen to me. Tomorrow morning, we'll go for a run before work."
"What? But I get out of breath when I run. Can we skip that part?"
"Why don't you say your heart races when you run?"
"Yes, I have that symptom too. Uncle Leonard, I'm sick, so I can't run with you."
Leonard was amused by her silly behavior. "Everyone has that symptom. If you don't, you're dead. Now sleep."
Orla snuggled into Leonard's arms, her eyes smiling. "I was just teasing you to make you happy, Uncle Leonard."
"I see it's not thundering anymore. Can you sleep on your own now?"
"No, it's still raining outside. There might be more thunder later. Uncle Leonard, please help me. Okay?"
Leonard couldn't resist her pleading.
He reluctantly agreed to let her sleep in his arms.
Before long, he heard Orla's gentle breathing.
In the moonlight, he could vaguely see the smile on Orla's lips.
He couldn't help but smile. "Still just a kid."
The next morning.
Orla opened her eyes to see Leonard's handsome face.
Her heart couldn't help but leap with joy.
She had finally spent a night in the same bed as the man she liked.
In her mind, she and Leonard had already slept together.
It didn't matter what kind of sleep it was.
Orla stared at Leonard's sexy lips and couldn't resist gently touching them.
Such beautiful lips must be very soft to kiss.
Thinking this, she acted on it.
Just as her lips were about to touch Leonard's, he suddenly opened his eyes.
"What are you doing?"
