Chapter 586 Assist Uncle
Kaia blinked her big eyes, not fully understanding, and fidgeted with her fingers.
"It's such a bummer," she said with a hint of disappointment. "I don't think I'll ever meet another man as good as Mr. Vale."
She cupped Wilhelmina's face with her small hands and softly reassured her, "Don't worry, Mom. I'll find you a great husband."
Wilhelmina smiled, "Alright, now go wash up and get to bed. I still have work to do."
Kaia lay in bed alone, feeling more and more uneasy.
She quickly got up and called Paxon.
Paxon, who was sitting on his bed reading, answered the phone immediately, "How's your mom? Did Uncle Theodore come over?"
Kaia sighed, "He did, and he helped bandage her wound."
"Isn't that good? Why are you sighing?"
"Because Mom said Mr. Vale likes someone else, and she doesn't want to be the bad woman. But I really like Mr. Vale and want him to be my dad. What should I do?"
Hearing Kaia on the verge of tears, Paxon quickly comforted her, "Don't be sad. Let me think of something."
"What can you do? If Mr. Vale likes someone else, he won't like my mom. Even if they got married, they wouldn't be happy."
Kaia's voice grew more and more aggrieved, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
She didn't know why, but ever since she saw Theodore, no other man could compare.
She just wanted Theodore to be her dad.
She genuinely liked him.
Hearing Kaia's sobs, Paxon coaxed, "Kaia, don't cry. Leave it to me. I helped Julian and Alissa, and my godparents, too. I have a lot of experience. Trust me."
Kaia, still skeptical, wiped her tears and asked, "You're not lying to me?"
"If I'm lying, I'm a puppy. I'll make sure you become my sister."
Kaia, who had been crying like a little flower in the rain, immediately sniffled and sweetly said, "Thank you, big brother. Next time the teacher gives us treats at preschool, I'll save them for you, okay?"
Paxon was overjoyed to hear her call him "big brother."
Although he was already a big brother to Zaid and Ingrid, they didn't say much besides calling out to him.
But Kaia, this sweet little sister, called him "big brother."
He had no reason not to help.
Paxon patted his chest and promised, "With me protecting you, no one will bully you again. Trust me."
"I trust you, Paxon. It's time to sleep. We have preschool tomorrow."
"Alright, see you tomorrow."
After hanging up, Paxon lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
He rested his hands behind his head and crossed his short legs.
He kept thinking about Kaia calling him "big brother," and a smile crept onto his face.
When Sebastian walked in, he saw Paxon looking relaxed.
He walked over, tapped Paxon’s little foot, and asked with a smile, "What are you thinking about so intently?"
Paxon immediately sat up, jumped into Sebastian's arms, and kissed his cheek.
Then he tilted his head and asked, "Dad, can I ask you a question?"
Sebastian knew his son was up to something. He raised an eyebrow and said, "What is it? Go ahead."
"Did Uncle Theodore have someone he liked before?"
"Yes, he did."
"Does he still like that person?"
Sebastian chuckled, "Is that just one question? Grown-up stuff isn't for kids to worry about."
Paxon kissed his cheek again and pleaded, "Dad, I promised Kaia. She called me 'big brother.' If I don't help her mom marry Uncle Theodore, I'll break my promise. You always say a man should keep his word."
Seeing Paxon’s serious expression, Sebastian found it amusing.
He pinched Paxon's cheek and said with a smile, "I'm also a man and must keep my promises. I promised Theodore not to tell anyone, so I can't say anything. Now, go to sleep."
He tucked Paxon into bed and kissed his forehead.
In a deep voice, he said, "Feelings can't be forced. If your uncle wanted to find someone else, he would have by now. Since he hasn't, it means he hasn't forgotten. We can't control other people's lives. Understand?"
Paxon pouted, "Dad, Uncle Theodore has been single for so many years. If he suddenly had a beautiful wife and a cute daughter, don't you think he'd be happy? Julian didn't like Alissa at first, but after Todd was born, he chased after her all the time. We're all men. I understand."
Paxon's words, though spoken in a childish voice, made sense.
Especially his last sentence, claiming to understand men so well.
Sebastian was never surprised by Paxon's language skills.
Paxon had always had strong logical thinking and could come up with philosophical statements.
Sebastian kissed Paxon's cheek and said, "Because Todd is Julian's son, he felt responsible first, then came love. But Kaia is different. She has no blood relation to Theodore, so he won't feel responsible for her. Don't try to copy Julian's situation. Understand?"
Paxon's bright eyes darted around, processing what Sebastian had said.
Kaia wasn't Theodore's daughter, so he wouldn't feel responsible for her.
So, he wouldn't feel guilty towards Kaia's mom, and he wouldn't fall in love with her.
Grown-up feelings were so complicated.
But what his dad said made sense.
He loved his uncle and Kaia, who called him "big brother."
He didn't want either of them to get hurt.
So, he needed to come up with a foolproof plan.
Sebastian put Paxon to sleep and quietly returned to his room.
Joyce had just finished feeding the twins and was watching them sleep.
Sebastian walked over, hugged her from behind, kissed the back of her neck, and softly said, "Look at our daughter. She's getting prettier every day, much cuter than that little rascal."
Joyce laughed, "You know, she's already a pound heavier than her brother. She might become a little chubby."
"That's called baby fat. It makes her even cuter."
Sebastian gently touched his daughter's tiny hand and said, "With such a wonderful wife and adorable kids, if my eyes hadn't been healed, I wouldn't have seen this beautiful life."
Hearing this, Joyce nodded, "Yes, we should be grateful to the person who donated their corneas. Have you found out who it was? Even if they're no longer with us, we can see if their family needs help. We can never forget this kindness."
Sebastian held Joyce close, kissed her forehead, and carefully said, "Joyce, I found the donor."
