Chapter 509 Traveling Together
Alexander strolled over to Sophia and took the luggage from her hands, speaking calmly, "They brought two cars, but there weren't enough seats, so I came to pick you up."
Sophia was skeptical of his words.
But she could guess that this was Joyce and Sebastian's idea, so she didn't argue and got into Alexander's car.
Alexander handed her a blanket from the back seat, "Cover up and get some rest. It's a three-hour drive."
Sophia had just recovered from a fever and was still feeling weak. She covered herself with the blanket and soon fell asleep.
When she opened her eyes again, it was dusk, and the city lights were just starting to twinkle.
The car had stopped by the beach.
In the distance, the deep blue sea blended seamlessly with the sky.
Sophia could hear the crashing waves and the laughter of children.
Seeing their car arrive, Elodie ran over with Paxon.
They were both incredibly excited.
"Sophia, Sophia, come take a dip in the ocean with me!"
Sophia got out of the car, hugged Paxon, and kissed him on the cheek, laughing, "Aren't you afraid of being swept away by the waves?"
"Nope, Dad said he'd go with me. Sophia, you should ask Mr. Cross to join you."
Alexander playfully swatted Paxon on the butt, laughing, "You go ahead. I have a leg injury and can't get in the water."
Paxon looked a bit disappointed, "That's too bad. Dad said floating in the ocean is a lot of fun."
This was Sebastian's private beach, with no other tourists around.
The sand was fine and soft, a white beach that looked especially beautiful under the moonlight.
Sophia was instantly captivated by the scenery.
She walked over to Joyce with Paxon in her arms, teasing, "Sebastian has such a great place, why didn't he tell us sooner? I went all the way abroad to a beach last year."
Joyce laughed, pulling her down to sit, "The beach was just finished, and the houses aren't fully furnished yet. We wanted to wait until everything was done to bring you all here, but someone couldn't wait, so we came early. But tonight, we'll have to camp out."
Sophia saw Sebastian in the distance, setting up tents with Tyler and Julian.
Alexander was unloading barbecue supplies from the car.
The kids, led by Elodie and Alissa, were on the beach with little shovels, looking for crabs.
The evening breeze was warm against their faces.
Sophia's previously gloomy mood lifted considerably.
She realized she hadn't felt this relaxed in a long time.
They all sat together, enjoying the barbecue and chatting under the starry sky.
The atmosphere was perfect.
It was late when everyone finally started to leave.
Joyce, who was pregnant, was taken to sleep in the RV by Sebastian.
The others returned to their tents.
The kids were too excited to sleep.
Paxon lay in the tent, propping his chin on his hands, watching Elodie draw.
His big, bright eyes sparkled, "Elodie, make sure you draw me looking really handsome."
Seeing how cute he was, Sophia couldn't help but kiss him.
She laughed, "Our Paxon is already very handsome."
Paxon glanced at Sophia and nodded seriously, "When I was in the parent-child class, lots of little girls chased me for kisses. Sophia, I didn't let them kiss me."
Hearing this, Sophia laughed and asked, "Why? You don't like them?"
Paxon looked at her earnestly, "Because if someone else kisses me, my future wife will be mad when she finds out. Sophia, you need to have a wife for me soon, or someone else might take me."
Sophia laughed at his words.
"Alright, I'll have one for you next year."
"Then you need to make up with Mr. Cross soon. The sooner you make up, the sooner I can meet my wife."
"Who said I need him to have a baby? Don't worry, I can give you a beautiful wife without him."
As they were chatting, the tent flap opened.
Alexander's tall figure appeared.
He sat next to Sophia, pulling Paxon into his lap and giving him a playful swat.
Alexander laughed, "If you want a wife, you need to go to sleep."
Paxon blinked his big eyes, "Are you planning to steal Sophia away once I fall asleep?"
Alexander pinched his cheek, "I don't need to wait for you to fall asleep to steal her. Now go to sleep."
"Promise you won't bully her."
"Alright, I promise. Now close your eyes and sleep. Elodie, you should stop drawing, too. Don't you know your own condition?"
Elodie immediately put down her things and lay down obediently, smiling, "Sophia, I can watch Paxon for you. You and Alexander can go for a walk. Take a flashlight; I heard there are beautiful shells at night. You have to pick some for me."
Sophia tucked the blanket around Paxon and lay down beside him.
She sounded tired, "I'm exhausted. I just want to sleep."
Alexander frowned, looking at the bandage on her leg, and scolded, "If you don't want another infection, you need to listen and come with me to change the dressing. The bandage is wet again."
Hearing this, Paxon blinked his big eyes and immediately urged, "Sophia, go change your dressing. I don't want you to get sick again."
"Yeah, Sophia, if you get sick again, you won't be able to do anything fun."
Sophia got up, "Alright, you two, go to sleep. I'll be right back."
She followed Alexander out, zipping the tent closed behind her.
As soon as they were outside, Alexander took her hand and led her to his tent.
Sophia tried to pull away, "Alexander, let go of me."
Alexander made a shushing gesture, whispering in her ear, "If you don't want everyone to know we're sneaking out for a midnight date, then go ahead and shout."
"Who's dating you? We're just changing the dressing."
"That's not what others will think, so stop making a fuss."
Alexander took off his jacket and draped it over Sophia's head, guiding her to his tent.
Once inside, Sophia yanked the jacket off her head.
She took a deep breath. "Are you trying to suffocate me?"
"Who told you to talk so loudly?"
"Alexander, hurry up. I want to go back to sleep."
Alexander carefully unwrapped the bandage on her leg, seeing the redness and swelling, and scolded, "I told you not to get it wet. Why don't you listen?"
"What's the point of coming to the beach if you can't get in the water?"
"If you go in the water tomorrow, you might as well kiss this leg goodbye."
Alexander applied ointment to her thigh, gently blowing on it to cool it down.
His focused and tender expression momentarily made Sophia think Alexander had regained his memory.
She couldn't help but call out, "Alexander."
Alexander looked up immediately. "What is it? Does it hurt?"
Sophia lowered her eyes, speaking softly, "You don't need to blow on it."
Seeing her like this, Alexander's deep eyes fixed on her, his large hand gently brushing her slightly reddened eyelid.
He asked in a hoarse voice, "Did I used to do this for you?"
