A Familiar Face

Cleopatra’s POV

How am I an Alpha? Is this some kind of trick to hypnotize me and keep me here? If it is, I swear that they won’t get away with it. I’ll fight with the last drop of blood in me till I gain my freedom and go back to the Silverfang pack, where I belong.

“You don’t belong there,” a deep voice said and I whipped my head around to see a figure standing close. His skin was pale. A vampire!

I took a fighting stance immediately but they both bursted out in laughter.

What the hell?

The vampire walked up to me and lowered my fist gently. “We are not your enemy, Shadow,” he said calmly with a soft smile.

“Why are you calling me that? I’m Cleopatra!” I yelled angrily in confusion. What is going on? And the fact that they could hear my thoughts pissed me off further.

“You know you can lock your thoughts right? We can only hear it cause it’s still open,” the vampire said.

“And stop referring to me as ‘the vampire’, my name is Lucien,” he added with his arms stretched out. I shook it lightly, still confused.

“How do I stop you all from eavesdropping on my thoughts?” I demanded.

“We weren’t eavesdropping. It was just open,” the hot guy that brought me here said, “And I’m not ‘the hot boy’, well of course I am hot,” he said with a cocky smile, “but the name is Rob.”

“Mr Lucien and Robin, how do I block you all from listening to my thoughts,” I asked.

“It’s not Robin, just Rob,” he protested but Lucien threw his head back with laughter. Somehow, I felt a little at ease, like I wasn’t threatened and like I was safe but I couldn’t let my guards down.

“I’ll tell you, but you have to promise not to escape until you hear me out,” Lucien said cautiously and I nodded immediately. He still looked at me doubtfully without saying another word.

“I promise. Can I even escape if I wanted to?” I asked and he shook his head with a soft laughter.

“So to lock us out of your thoughts, try and picture an open door in your mind. Can you see it?” He demanded.

Is this some kind of joke? Are we in a movie set right now? How can I picture an open door in my mind and shut it and that solves the problem? Is it that simple?

“Yes. It’s that simple,” Lucien said while chuckling lightly. “You remind me so much of your mother,” he whispered with a sad expression.

“My-my mother?” I stammered and he nodded.

“I have so much to tell you but first, lock your thoughts just as you wanted and we’ll get to the rest,” he said and I blinked rapidly, as if to get myself out of the confused state he just threw me in with what he said.

How does he know my mothe when I don’t ?

I steadied my breathing and did as he said. I pictured a door, wide open in my head and reached forward to shut it. I finally got to the door, twisted the handle and slammed it shut.

Can they still hear me? I thought. I peered my eyes open and they were both staring at me intently.

“Well-did it work?” I asked.

“Think of any random color,” Rob said and I thought about red. That’s my favorite color.

“Oh. I think this is an extreme case. You have to go through some series of rituals to lock your thoughts, I think it’s because they’ve been open for too long,” he said with a worried look in his eyes.

“What do you mean? What color did I think of?” I asked curiously. I don’t want to hear about any rituals. What if they make me run around a fire naked? I shivered at the thought.

“You thought red,” he replied with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

My mouth fell wide open in shock. “What? But I closed the fucking door,” I whined.

“The ritual will be held tonight by…,”

“Stop scaring the poor girl, Robert,” Lucien scolded, “It’s locked now.”

“But I really thought red!” I said suspiciously. Maybe he’s trying to make me think that I did when I didn’t so they can eavesdrop later?

“I just figured it would be red. You’re literally wearing a red dress!” He said, laughing heartily. Somehow, I found myself laughing along. That was crazy.

“Come,” Lucien said, stretching forth his hand and I took it without hesitating, “we have so much to talk about.”

“Before we talk, can I shower and change? I feel uncomfortable,” I asked shyly.

“Of course. We already had that prepared but you just had to run out of the room like someone was after you,” he said and turned to Rob, “take her back to the room so she can freshen up and eat, we will talk later tonight.”

I bade him goodbye and followed Rob quietly. Something about Lucien seemed familiar but I couldn’t wrap my head around it.

What if this is part of their hypnosis? What if they are trying to brainwash me? I instinctively looked up at Rob to see if he heard what I just thought about but he didn’t seem to have heard it.

He led me past several smaller houses until we got to the big one I got out from earlier. We got inside and I met the members watching Tv but they are not as much as they were earlier.

An elderly man walked up to me and reached out to take my hand. I jerked back instinctively, my senses at alert.

“Easy girl,” Rob said softly. “Like I told you before, they are all happy to see that you have returned.”

That reminds me, about the Alpha thing, I think they have the wrong female werewolf cause I ain’t no Alpha. That I am sure of.

I steadied my breath and moved closer to him. He took my hands and kissed the back of my hand softly, “I thank the moon goddess that I am alive to witness your return to us,” he whispered and then dropped my hand before walking away.

“Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?” Rob teased and I scoffed.

Rob reminded me of Alex. The carefree spirit and friendly charm is contagious. Thinking about Alex brought a certain ache in my heart. I can’t believe he’s dead and it’s all because of me.

“Ouch,” I whispered as my head hit something hard and soft at the same time. I looked up to see Rob’s broad chest. He was grinning from ear to ear.

“Lost in thoughts?” He said playfully and I chuckled.

“Sorry,” I said while rubbing my forehead.

“I got you. So this is the room you ran out from, there are fresh clothes in the wardrobe for you and everything else you need to shower is in the bathroom,” he said, throwing the door open and gesturing inside.

I could hear his voice faintly, it sounded like an echo from a distance. All my attention was fixed on the little girl with a white hair standing by the window.

Just as I was about to ask Rob who she is, the girl turned and I froze when my eyes met hers.

It can’t be.
