A Common Enemy
Alpha Kane's POV
I hate Williams De Luca.
He is living the life I've always wanted for myself and I plan on tearing it all away from him.
What makes him so special anyway? I live for the day I'll make him kneel in front of me and grovel. The day he will beg me to spare his life.
I had all this meticulously planned out over the years. The grand invasion of the Stone Heart Pack. That is why I've made so much effort to train Cleopatra as my weapon and as his seductress.
I can't deny that I've made terrible choices along the way but this time, I'm going after Alpha Williams with everything I have and I won't rest until I see his head, hanging on a stick at the entrance of my pack!
Good thing I have Cleopatra and I will destroy anything or anyone that would distract her from this mission.
Even if that meant crippling her wolf.
“Alpha please, spare me. I promise not to let Cleopatra know about it,” a young warrior pleaded. His pleas fell on deaf ears. When I swore to destroy anything and anyone that would ruin my plans, I wasn't joking.
He knows about the visit to the Night Wolf pack and the deal we struck with them. Imagine what will happen if Cleopatra gets a whim of this. Instead of attacking her kidnappers, we turned them into our ally!
The young man's cries drew me out of my thoughts to focus back on him. “You swore your allegiance to me as your Alpha, is that right?” I demanded in a cold voice.
“Yes.. Alpha. I would do anything for the Silverfang pack,” he stammered hurriedly.
“Good. As your Alpha, I want you to die,” I whispered to his ears. The terrified expression in his eyes made me excited. Excited to see more of this. I watched his mouth quiver and his chest fall and rise out of fear.
The sight was exhilarating.
Sometimes, I enjoy killing the old fashioned way. I took out a sword, the edges shining so bright that I could see my reflection perfectly on it. The boy panicked at the sight and resumed begging.
It made me more excited to kill him.
“I can't leave my mate. Please, I just found out about her two days ago. Please Alpha,” he begged, this time, he held my legs and tugged at it violently.
“A mate huh? Don't worry about that. For your sake, I'll let her warm my bed tonight, to commemorate your death.” And with that I cut him with the sword. All it took was one deep cut and his head rolled towards the door.
I growled angrily as his blood splashed on my face. Just as I was getting it off, the door to the holding cell flew open.
“Alpha!” Beta Jack called from the doorway, “I've got big news,” he said, eyeing the scene in front of him and scrunching his face. Sometimes I wonder if he would ever betray me.
“Is Alpha Williams dead?” I asked sarcastically, my voice dropping dangerously low.
“No. Cleopatra called with information. Alpha Williams and his people are planning to attack the wolf hunters,” he said, as we walked out of the cell towards my office.
“I don't get it. How is that supposed to benefit me or our plans?” I asked, irritated. He disrupted my art. I would have loved to cut the young man open, part by part.
“We have the location and everything. We can approach the wolf hunters first and inform them about their attack. Then we can strike a deal with them to infiltrate the Stone Heart Pack when they least expect,” he explained.
That caught my attention for the first time since he interrupted me. I chuckled at the thought of the invasion.
“That is brilliant! When do we leave to meet the wolf hunters?” I asked, excitedly.
“We can leave at dawn.”
****
I was up before the first ray of dawn decorated the sky. A chill ran down through me, not from the morning cold, but from the anticipation of what lay ahead.
Before long we were headed into the dense forest, going deeper as it swallowed us whole. We were about six. No need to bring so many men to the party. We could scare them off if we were many.
The air was thick with the scent of pine and damp earth, and the only sounds were the crunch of leaves under our paws as we ran and the occasional rustle of unseen creatures of the forest.
As we ran deeper into the woods, the path became narrow and the air grew colder, a damp mist began to settle around us. My ears would occasionally perk up at any nearby sound that is not ours.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we emerged from the dense forest into a small clearing. The scent of roasting meat and campfire mingled with the dampness of the woods greeted us.
This was it. The camp of the wolf hunters.
This was a dangerous game of cat and mouse as they could turn on us. One survival instinct of our kind is to never fully trust a human. Except it's your mate. I killed my human mate. She was worthless.
With a deep breath, I changed to my human form, and stepped forward, my eyes scanning the camp cautiously. As I drew closer, I could see a group of men gathered around a campfire, their faces etched with the lines of hard living.
They were a formidable group, their bodies lean and muscular, their eyes sharp and alert. I would love nothing more than to tear them all apart, limb by limb but I shouldn't.
They have a role to play in my revenge against Williams De Luca.
I raised my hand in a gesture of peace. “We come in peace,” I called out, my voice echoing through the clearing. The men got up, their eyes narrowing as they assessed us.
“Werewolves!” One spat with hatred laced in his voice. I couldn't even blame him. The feeling is mutual.
“What do you want?” A gruff voice demanded. He looked like he was their leader.
I stepped forward, my voice steady. “My name is Alpha Kane, of the Silverfang Pack. I have a proposition.”
