The Alpha King's Nephew
Williams’ POV
The sound of my phone ringing got me up from the bed with a groan. The last thing I want to do right now is leave the warmth of Cleopatra's arms.
God, she's so fucking beautiful in the morning.
When she told me about going to see her Alpha, something in me shattered. I want her to be all mine. I don't want her to answer to Kane anymore, he doesn't deserve to have her as a member of his pack.
For some reason all my suspicions and questions about her seem to disappear whenever I stare into those beautiful blue eyes.
I clutched my chest anxiously as the thought of losing her crossed my mind. When did I become weak? When did she become my weakness? As I stared down at her sleeping form, I couldn't help the soft smile that crept into my face.
I don't know when or how but my heart has started beating for Cleopatra in a way that scared the shit out of me. What on earth will I do if she's mated to someone else?
The memories of last night crossed my mind and I stifled a groan. The image of her gently sucking the point I should be marked had me gripping the bed sheet to steady my heart.
Giving in to her demands is now second nature to me and somehow I knew if she wanted me to make her my Luna this instant, it would be an honor.
Having her glued to me would make me feel so much better. She doesn't even need to ask. The idea of any of these Alphas passing glances at her caused a ripple of jealousy to explode inside me.
I just have to find a way to convince my uncle, the Alpha King, so she can be with me during the meeting.
I want her to be mine. Alone.
I wanted her to mark me so badly. My wolf almost marked her last night, I barely held him back. The phone rang again, bringing me back to reality.
“I'm listening,” I said in a hushed tone, careful not to wake the sleeping beauty on my bed.
“The Alpha King wants to see you right now, in his private study. Make sure you're not seen,” the voice said and cut the call without giving up anything else.
What does he want to say by three in the morning? Can't he wait till later? I whined in my head. The thought of leaving Cleopatra alone in bed, picking at my heart.
I quickly got dressed and left quietly. I scanned the surroundings and discreetly made it out to the private study. My eyes darted left and right as I walked the distance to the private study, careful not to be seen just as the voice on the phone instructed.
I took a deep breath while standing outside the study before swinging the door open. When I got in, I saw three of the other Alphas that were supposed to be appointed waiting patiently.
What is this about?
We exchanged pleasantries and everywhere fell quiet once again. “Why did the Alpha King send for us?” One of the Alphas asked. I think his name is Damien.
“I guess we will find out when he gets here,” another replied and the office fell silent again.
It felt like ages before the door swung open and the Alpha King came in. My eyes lingered on him briefly. I looked at his face which was once smooth and youthful, now wrinkled with old age. His eyes reminded me so much of my mother.
“I'm glad you all are here,” he began as we all took our seats. I have an announcement to make, but before that, the appointment will happen here, right now.”
The announcement caused a little murmur and confused looks on the faces of others but I saw it coming. I suspected that he would appoint us secretly, knowing that there are certain Alphas who are out to sabotage the appointment.
He began the initiation in the presence of all four of us and some of the elders who entered with him. After that, we went through the normal ritual and had the mark branded on our left hands.
We took the oath of allegiance to the realm and the appointment was over before it began. After we had all calmed down, the Alpha King cleared his throat as he stood up.
“Each of you have been given the list of packs that fell under your jurisdiction when the letter of the appointment came. I have faith that you all would do what is right for the packs. That is why you were chosen.” He paused briefly and scanned our faces, one after the other before he continued.
“As you all know, I'm the only Alpha King in history who didn't have any heir because my mate unfortunately died during childbirth. But that doesn't mean I don't have a nephew,” he said sadly and turned to stare at me.
What does he think he's doing? He promised that this would never come out. I am not interested in…,
“Williams,” I heard him call and my head shot up immediately. What are you doing? I asked him with my expression and he chuckled.
All eyes were now on me as he motioned for me to stand up. I hesitated before doing so and he continued addressing the Alpha's present.
“Williams here is my nephew,” the shock on the faces of the people present was expected and I rolled my eyes at the funny expression on the Alpha King's face. “He is the only son of my twin sister, Tara. So I'm saying this among this close circle of elders and overseers, should I decide to retire or join my mate, Williams Deluca is the next in line.”
I watched the look of approval on the faces of the people present. At least I don't have any rivals among these ones. I proceeded to show them the birthmark on my ankle which the Alpha king has on his arm and the deal was sealed.
This was not what I wanted.
Our little meeting was done and we all got up to leave. It's barely five so hopefully I could cuddle Cleopatra before it's time. Just the thought of it got me all excited.
“This wasn't what we agreed on uncle,” I said to the Alpha king as we all walked out of the study.
“Well, it's about time you take your rightful place. And I'll further announce it during the meeting of the Alphas later today,” he replied with a soft smile on his face.
“But…,”
“No buts, it's final,” he retorted and stormed off to his quarters.
As I jogged down to my lodge, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there is danger looming close. When I reached out to open the door, my eyes briefly caught a shadowy figure at a far distance with eyes that glowed eerie red.
I whipped my head back in the direction to check it out, but it was gone.
What the fuck could that be?
