The Unknown Enemy

Cleopatra's POV

From the corners of my eyes, I could see Alpha Williams red with fury as Renee emerged, walking protectively in front of someone—a skinny, unkempt young man with shaggy hair and wide, frightened eyes.

He looked like he hadn't seen the light of day in weeks, maybe even longer. His clothes were torn, his hair disheveled and his posture slouched, as though he expected a blow to land any second on him.

I furrowed my brow in confusion as I stared deeply into the somewhat familiar eyes. Who was this?

Alpha Williams growled at him furiously, attempting to attack but I held him back as the familiar eyes stared back at me with a glint of recognition.

Renee growled back, keeping a firm grip on him, her body angled as if shielding him from any perceived threats. And that's when it hit me but before I could voice it out, Renee's voice rang out, a low deep rumble.

“Mate.”

My chest tightened, the realization settling in like a stone as I turned to Alpha Williams, his eyes narrowing slightly. The unkempt, skinny man beside her was her mate. I watched as Renee stood firm, unwavering, her stance telling me all I needed to know. She wasn't going to let anyone touch him, regardless of what we thought or what danger he might pose.

This man—this broken, frightened man–was her mate.

Just then, I perceived a familiar scent as the wind howled towards our direction and froze on my track. I turned with an urgency towards the man behind Renee and grabbed his hand.

“Alex?”

He didn't answer but the tears that rolled down his cheeks were enough for me. I pulled him in for a tight hug, tears rolling down my eyes uncontrollably.

“Oh God, Alex! I'm so sorry that I couldn't find you on time. I'm so sorry Alex…”

I got caught off when a hand pushed me away with a great force and I stumbled backwards, almost crashing into a tree.

“He is mine,” she growled, grabbing his hand protectively.

I turned to meet her gaze, her eyes hard with determination, silently daring me to question her. I opened my mouth to speak, but the words wouldn't come. What could I say? Alex was her mate after all. No matter what I thought or how I felt, the bond was sacred.

But why now? This isn't the first time they are meeting. The moon goddess does have a weird way of crafting our fates.

“What the hell, Renee!” Alpha Williams growled angrily in his Alpha voice and rushed to my side. “I know you're on edge right now but calm down. Cleopatra would never hurt him and you know that.”

Renee blinked twice as though she was recovering from a trance and looked up to meet my gaze once more.

“I'm so sorry, Cleopatra. This is all too new to me, just stay away from him,” she whispered politely and I nodded.

Suddenly, my nose picked up a disturbing scent that was a little too familiar as well. Was it someone I know? Or someone I'd met? But something about their presence felt unsettling and threatening.

“We need to get out of here. Now!” I said, my voice urgent as I scanned the area. “Something feels…wrong.”

Alpha Williams signaled to the men so we could retreat but before any of us could move an inch, a voice rang out from the direction we parked the cars, freezing us in place.

“Leaving already? The party hadn't even started yet.”

The voice was rough, taunting, and unmistakably familiar. I could feel my eyes glowing faintly with my wolves itching to be let loose. Who is he? And why are they so pissed at him?

I turned to face the voice, every muscle in my body in high alert. A figure stepped forward with tons of other men behind me. They outnumbered us by far. He had a tall imposing height with a cruel smile playing at his lips.

There was nothing familiar about the face. Yet the voice seemed so familiar.

“Well, well,” he continued, his voice dripping with amusement like we fell right into his trap. And maybe we did. “I was hoping for more guests, but I don't mind anyway. The main attraction is finally here.”

His gaze flickered to me, and then to Alpha Williams. “Ah, I see you came with Williams, Cleopatra. Do you like riding him that much? I can make you feel so good, better than he ever could,” he taunted with a sneaky grin.

Alpha Williams growled and marched towards his direction but I held him back, shaking my head slightly. “No. He's mine,” I whispered and turned to face the kidnapper. But Alpha Williams pulled me behind him, his grip on my wrist tight.

“No, Cleopatra. He's all mine,” he whispered back with an icy look in his eyes.

I took a step back and stood directly next to Alpha Williams. I felt something different just by standing next to him like this, facing off a common enemy.

Something I've been ignoring all these while.

“Well, isn't this such a beautiful sight to behold?” he continued, his men surrounding us now as he made his way to stand face to face with Alpha Williams.

The air was thick with tension as he stood before us, his mocking grin never faltering. His eyes danced with a twisted amusement, clearly enjoying this situation.

I could feel Alpha Williams fury radiating off him like a furnace. It was surprising that he hadn't lunged at this strange wolf.

He circled around us slowly, his eyes flicking to Renee and her mate before landing back on me. “You've brought quite the crowd, Cleopatra. This could have ended so much better if you had listened to my warning. But tell me,” he paused, looking at Alpha Williams now.

“Do you want to know a dirty little secret about the pretty head standing next to you?” he asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.

The words hung in the air like a dark promise, and for a brief moment, the world seemed to hold its breath.

A secret? About me?

I glanced at Alpha Williams from the corner of my eye, his jaw clenched, his muscles taut, but he said nothing.

The kidnapper chuckled, stepping back with a wicked gleam in his eyes. “Oh yes, Williams,” he continued, his voice hoarse, “you might want to hear this one. It might just change everything.”
