Whispers of the Past

Cleopatra’s POV

My head ached like I had hit it on a very hard surface. I peered my eyes open and saw Lucien and Rob, looking down at me, their faces etched with worry.

“What happened?” I whispered, trying to sit upright. Rob rushed forward and helped put the pillow up so I could lean on it comfortably.

“We found you unconscious on the kitchen floor,” Lucien said, pulling out my hand and examining my pulse, “what do you remember?” he asked.

Kitchen floor? That’s impossible!

“Did you say kitchen? I left the kitchen as soon as Rob left in search of you,” I told them and they exchanged knowing glances. “You don’t think I’m lying do you?”

“I believe not. I think you had a vision,” Lucien said with a thoughtful expression, “tell me everything you remember,” he demanded and sat down by the foot of the bed.

“I left the kitchen,” I repeated, feeling the stirrings of panic. “I heard a voice behind that locked door upstairs and…”

“What locked door?” Lucien interrupted, his brow furrowed. “There are no locked doors in this house.”

My breath caught in my throat. “Yes, there is, but the end of the left hallway! The same door I was trying to open when the person you sent earlier attacked me.” I said, sounding confused.

“Shadow, there is no door there,” Rob replied.

What the heck is going on? Are they kidding me right now?

“Just tell us what you saw behind the door,” Lucien said carefully.

I swallowed hard, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. “A girl. She looked like me, but younger. White hair, piercing blue eyes like mine. She told me to find her before it’s too late.”

Lucien and Rob exchanged another knowing glance.

“It’s starting. Your past is trying to speak to you so you can find out who you really are.”

“What past are you talking about?” I asked, frustration creeping into my voice. “What is starting?”

“The awakening. Your awakening,” Lucien said, pacing a hand on my shoulder, his touch gentle but firm. “There’s much you don’t know about your lineage, Shadow. Your mother—she wasn’t just any werewolf or Alpha.”

“What are you talking about? Who was my mother?” I demanded, my heart racing.

Lucien sighed, standing up from the bed and pacing the room. “Your mother, Amelia, was more than my best friend. We were like soulmates but not the type your kind have. She was…unique. She had unimaginable abilities and it seems you’ve inherited some of them or even more given that you possess two wolves.”

“So my mother was a witch? Are you my father?” I asked curiously.

His laughter echoed in the room as he stopped pacing around and sat down. “No, she wasn’t a witch,0 and I am not your father.”

“Can you leave us for a second Rob?” He asked and Rob nodded, squeezing my hand gently before leaving.

“Your father was the Alpha of the Night Wolves, the most brutal of all clans. When your mother found out, she didn’t want to have anything to do with him but they fell in love at first sight beyond the mate pull.”

“So the Night Wolf Alpha that attacked me months ago was my father?” I asked, shocked and confused.

“No child. Your father would never attack you if he was alive,” he replied and watched my expression.

“What happened? How did they die?”

He told me the story. Everything. How my father was betrayed by his greedy brother and how they lied to destroy him because he was mated to my mother, who was the Alpha of the most sacred clans.

He told me how the realm was against my mother because her strongest allies were vampires.

His intention was to kill me because of the threat my existence would pose to him and his dream to take over the clan and the powers I could inherit. He lied that my blood was needed to cleanse the land.

A war broke out and my father died trying to stop them. My mother lost it when she felt that her mate was dead, fearing for my life and that of her people and the vampires, she assembled them together and used all her powers to hide them from the rest of the world.

“I was shocked when I found out that you had wandered away before your mother sealed us in. I thought you must have died for you were barely six,” he said, his voice laced with sadness and pain.

I reached out and grabbed his hand. “I thought I failed your mother. I tried to break the wall and leave but couldn’t. You were the only one who could break it and we lost you.”

“I was told that my parents were peasants from the Silverfang pack and that they died during an attack by the vampires,” I whispered, questioning everything I knew about everything.

“No. I thought you were dead but the strangest thing happened. You were so glued to your mother when you were a child; that was why your father named you Shadow because you were like your mother’s shadow,” he paused and wiped a tear that had trickled down his eyes.

“After your disappearance, we thought you were dead but on your seventh birthday, a white rose appeared on your mother’s grave. I thought it was just random until the year that followed and the next. That was when I knew that you were alive.”

He proceeded to tell me how the wall had been slightly broken and they could leave, but they couldn't stay out too long.

“You must have triggered your powers unknowingly and caused the stretch. I came looking for you immediately and I found you.”

His voice was thick with unshed tears and I squeezed his hand tighter. “I would follow you quietly, waiting for the right time to meet you. Did you get the note I placed beside you when you fell on the motorcycle?”

My eyes lit up with recognition. “That was you?” I asked, I had always wondered who left me that note.

“Yes. While following you, I found out that you were being watched, the man had a strange tattoo on his arm,” he said with a distant look in his eyes.

Wait, why does that sound familiar? My eyes widened when realization kicked in. The man who kidnapped Alex had been following me?

Hold on! Alpha Williams had been spying on me??!

Just then, the door burst open, and Rob came in panting like he had just run a marathon.

“You have to see this Lucien,” he wheezed, his eyes wide with shock.
