The Unlikely Hero

Williams’ POV

I left the perfect body I wrecked during last night's sex in bed, hoping to come back and lay my head on those warm breasts that look like ripe peaches.

As if it was not hard enough leaving her arms this morning. Just the thought of coming back and laying next to her gave me the strength I needed to face the stress ahead.

I've never felt so belittled and hurt as I am now. How do I describe the feeling that surged through me when I saw her riding with that lanky looking human boy? I could feel a hard bile that couldn't go down my throat.

Why is she here and with him? And why is she protecting him like I will rip his head off? Well I could if I wanted to. And why is she fidgeting like someone that was caught stealing? What is she afraid of? I thought as I studied her expressions carefully.

She is deliberately taunting me, teasing me in a way that made me groan deeply. She wants him to ride her? How pathetic. The poor man doesn't look like he can handle her in bed. What am I even thinking?

I stormed out before I could do something I would regret. She can't have this much control over my emotions. I refuse to give her that right!

I concentrated on the meeting with Mr Smith. I was supposed to meet him at 12 noon but something needed to be addressed urgently at the hotel and he had to wait.

We made it back to the hotel and got settled in.

“So Smith, where have you been all these while and what really happened?” I asked, gathering my attention to focus on this meeting and not on Cleopatra.

He hesitated, darting his eyes across the room. “It's a long story Mr Williams. But can I ask you something?”

I nodded for him to proceed. “How do you know umm..that lady?” he stammered, an expression I can't decipher in his face.

“Cleopatra? She's a guest in my home,” I replied, still trying to figure out why he's so uneasy.

“A guest,” he muttered.

“Well, I'm sure you didn't call to talk about guests. So you tell me, what happened?”

He told me a long story of a business deal he made that failed and how some people were out for his head so he had to fake his own death to throw them off his back.

It doesn't add up. There's something more to this than he's letting on.

“And why are you here?” I asked suspiciously, “don't you think they might find out that you didn't die and come after you again? I asked, staring directly at him.

He hesitated before answering. “I'm being very cautious,” he paused and then his tone changed to a more intense one. “That day you were kidnapped, I was there. I wanted to come to you for financial aid, things have been tough since…you know, we went into hiding and my wife is almost due.”

He paused again and looked towards Renee and back at me.

“You know how I overhead where you were taken?” he asked.

“Yes, Renee filled me in on that already,” I replied.

“I heard something else that night. Something I shouldn't have,” he said, an unexplainable type of chill filling the room.

Cleopatra’s POV

I followed him closely, careful not to be spotted. He got a taxi and I got one to follow him carefully. We drove towards the outskirts of town and then he stopped in front of a secluded home.

I almost felt bad for them. Their new home looks like a ship wreck that was pulled to land and then constructed to look like a house. As he reached to open the door, I grabbed him, pinning his hands back and dragging him into the house.

Inside the house was worse than the outside. I stopped on my track when I saw his pregnant wife and their daughter sitting on the floor.

What have I done? Was letting them live a wrong call to make? Should I just put them out of this misery?

“Um..Cleopatra? I..what..I swear I did not tell him anything about you, please we are already a wreck just leave us alone!!” he cried.

“I gave you one instruction out of the goodness of my heart, Mr Smith,” I growled, slowly approaching him like a predator. “Live like you died that night! And what is this? Why am I seeing you everywhere huh?” I asked, reaching for his throat. I can see the blood leaving his face and his lips quivering in fear.

His daughter started crying and his wife got on her knees and was pleading. It broke my heart. But I have to correct my errors, if not, he would ruin things for me.

“Just let us go this once please and you won't ever get to see him again, please,” his wife pleaded with tears streaming down her eyes.

“Do you know how stupid you made me feel?” I ranted, “what if you were spotted by…” I paused and let him go. “I made a mistake by letting you live and now, I've come to make you disappear permanently,” I growled and they resumed their pleading.

Just then, the wife screamed. I looked over at her and saw water, did she just pee? I thought.

“Oh my God!” She screamed. “My water just broke. Did you get the money?!” She yelled at her husband. He was disoriented. He searched through his pocket but there was no money.

“I don't understand, Mr Williams gave me money, where is it?” he muttered to himself, earning a scowl and scream from his wife.

“Calm down baby, I have this under control,” he said in a panicked voice. “Just breathe with me,” he added while inhaling and exhaling.

She pulled at his hair and screamed. “Don't fucking tell me to calm down Smith! And don't tell me to breathe with you!”

I stood frozen, not sure of what to make of this situation. How did it end up like this I thought to myself.

“Can't you just take her to the hospital?” I found myself asking.

“Aaaaaaaah!!” She screamed, “the baby is coming.”

“There is no car in case you haven't noticed and we are supposed to be dead remember?!” he yelled at me.

“If you raise your voice at me one fucking time. I would..,”

“Aaaaaaaah!!” She cried again, cutting me short.
“Please help me,” Mr Smith said, looking at me with pleading eyes.

I bent down to their level instinctively. “What should I do?” I asked.

It was a real battle, the miracle of childbirth. I've faced hundreds of warriors in battle and gone on several missions but nothing prepared me for this level of battle. It was chaotic. But as soon as I heard the baby cry, I felt relieved and rewarded.

It was over before it began. I helped clean the baby and as I looked into his eyes, something inside of me bloomed. The urge to help them, for the baby's sake.

“You can name him,” the woman whispered softly.

No-no I can't get attached like this. “Amil,” I muttered, smiling softly at him before I could stop myself.

I pulled Mr Smith aside after handing the baby to his mother. I raked a hand through my hair, how did it get this complicated. “I need you and your family to disappear for good and I mean it,” I said and he nodded thankfully.

I couldn't help it. I gave him directions to my private cabin. No one except me knew about it.
“Make sure you find a way to leave tonight,” I warned and he nodded tearfully.

I took one last look at the baby and left. I was covered in blood. As I turned to cross over I came face to face with Renee.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” She growled.

Oh God.
