Her missing human
Cleopatra’s POV
“We’re sorry…,” she whispered, her voice suddenly inaudible. It sounded like an echo in my ears as I tried to control the heaviness in my heart.
Alpha Williams stepped forward and took the phone from me when he noticed my expression. I quickly dashed for the door as if someone was hot on my trails.
He pulled me back with a force and held me down. “Goddamit Cleopatra, you’re naked!” he said and I freed myself from his grasp and scrambled to the dresser to get my clothes.
“Cleopatra,” he called but I would not turn to look at him.
What did the nurse mean by that? How can a full grown man be missing from the hospital? Why didn’t I stay with him even after he told me about the strange call he got?
My heart was pounding in my ears like it could burst any second.
“Cleopatra you’re not thinking straight, listen to me,” he said softly but I ignored him. I quickly fixed my clothes and made for the door but he stopped me.
“Stop and listen,” he growled in his Alpha voice and I looked up at him. Tears were gathered in my eyes but I refused to blink. I won’t cry.
“I promise you, that I will find your friend, no matter what it takes,” he whispered and I broke down.
“I should have stayed back with him. Why did I leave? He told me about the strange call he got and I still left him. This is all my fault,” I ranted and he pulled me into an embrace, stroking my hair gently.
“It’s not your fault. And I will find him. I promise,” he said reassuringly. He grabbed my face with his large hands and kissed me on the lips.
It was a small gesture but at this point, it made a big difference. I felt my fear settling and now, anger took over. I would hunt down the people who took him and make them pay.
Please be safe Alex. I prayed silently.
“I will help you find him, ok?” He said and I nodded.
Few minutes later, we were driving down to the hospital. I stared out of the window, my mind racing. A lump formed in my throat, threatening to choke me but I pushed it down.
There was a battle of fury and fear going on inside of me. Alpha Willaims reached over and squeezed my hand, his grip firm and reassuring.
We arrived at the hospital, the familiar sterile smell hitting me like a wave. I rushed inside with Alpha Williams hot on my tail. I got to the information desk, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Where is Alex Rodriguez?” I asked a nurse, my voice slightly cold.
I remember her. She was the nurse with the attitude the other day. One wrong move today and I might just snap her neck and to hell with the consequences.
She looked at me, her eyes filled with fear and sympathy. “I’m sorry. Early in the morning, we came in to do the normal routine rounds and found out that he was gone.”
My heart sank. A cold dread washed over me. Where could he be? What had happened to him?
Alpha Williams stepped forward, his voice low and commanding. “I need to see the security footage. Now.”
The nurse hesitated. “I-I don’t think that’s allowed here. Let me go and get the head nurse please,”
“I demand to see the fucking owner of this hospital!” I growled angrily.
Alpha Williams held my hand, trying to get me to calm down as he could sense that my wolf was threatening to take over.
“What is going on here?” A voice asked from behind and we turned around to see an elderly woman.
The nurse we’ve been talking to went over to her and whispered something to her ears alone. She nodded in our direction. “Follow me.”
She led us down a corridor and past several doors, the tension in the air thick.
“I apologize on behalf of the management. We are so sorry. This has never happened before in our hospital and we assure you that we are trying our best to locate him as fast as we can,” she said as we quietly followed her into the security room.
As we watched the footage, my heart pounded in my chest. I scanned every frame, searching for any sign of Alex.
Seconds turned to minutes and before long an hour had already passed. Still, there was no sign of him. The longer I scanned the screens, the more my wolf grew agitated.
Alpha Williams stood beside me, his arm around my shoulders. He squeezed me gently, offering silent support.
I had to find Alex. No matter what it took. He is my human and I would do anything to make sure he's safe.
“There!” Alpha Williams said, his voice sharp. I focused on the screen, my heart pounding. A figure moved swiftly through the hospital corridor carrying someone over his shoulders.
Oh my God. Alex!
But before I could lean over to observe clearly so I would know where he went next, a static filled the screen. The footage was corrupted.
I lost it. Anger consumed me. I lunged forward, my hands reaching for the screen to yank it out in a fit of rage but Alpha Williams held my shoulders tight.
The security guard operating the systems looked at me, his face a mask of fear and confusion. “I'm…so sorry ma'am, the system…”
I didn't let him finish. I screamed, my voice echoing in the silent room.
“We are doing everything we can miss,” the nurse whispered calmly.
“Wait,” I said suddenly, an image of something I caught earlier crossing my mind, “play the last footage again.”
“There,” I said, as I saw the strange symbol that flashed on the screen for a split second. It was hard to miss as it appeared towards the part that got corrupted.
It looked like a tattoo but glowed an eerie blue light in the dark. “Do you see that?” I asked but they all looked at me like I was crazy.
“There is nothing there Cleopatra,” Alpha Williams said with concern etched in his voice, “What do you see?”
“You can't see the tattoo?” I asked, taking the controls and zooming in but he shook his head. They all did. Are they all blind?
I felt a cold dread creeping into my heart when I saw the confused expression on their faces. Did I suddenly go crazy?
