Dylan's Pawn
Dylan's POV
Dave nodded quickly, then rushed out of the room, leaving me alone in the dim light. I smiled to myself in satisfaction. Marcus, Williams’ loyal omega, had been my secret weapon ever since I approached him.
I've been feeding him lies about his family's rightful place, turning his loyalty against his Alpha bit by bit. I must admit that it was a difficult process because he considered Williams his brother, but I pulled strings and presented him with fabricated facts and he believed me.
So right now, Marcus believed his family should have been Alphas, not Omega. He believed that Williams was standing in the way of what was rightfully his. And once I twist that knife deep enough, Marcus would do the unthinkable.
Just as Cleopatra has become Kane's secret weapon, Marcus is mine and he knows everything about the Stone Heart Pack.
I will be destroying Williams from within. Of course that would be after I'm done with Kane.
“Soon,” I whispered to myself, my eyes gleaming with dark promise. “Very soon.”
“I heard that you sent for me,” Marcus's voice boomed from the doorway of my study, his arrogance rubbing off in an unpleasant way. But I don't blame him one bit. I made up the lies about him being from an Alpha blood so he must think we are equals.
I watched him carefully, letting the silence stretch out between us. Finally, I spoke, my voice calm but authoritative. “Sit down, Marcus.”
He hesitated for a moment as though he was displeased about my tone before sinking into the chair opposite me.
“You've been hiding here for some days now,” I said, my tone measured. “You know you can't return to Williams’ pack. He's already marked you as a traitor. If you must return, you should be fighting to return as the rightful Alpha that you are.”
Marcus swallowed hard, his jaw clenched as the weight of my words settled in. “What must I do? What's the plan?” he asked, his voice hoarse.
“Kane is probably planning on heading over to the Stone Heart Pack with warriors. Obviously going in the guise of retrieving Cleopatra but we all know he's out for blood,” I said, leaning forward, my eyes locked onto him. “I know you've been expecting this conversation so here it is. We wait for them to wear each other out and then…we attack.”
He looked up at me as though I spoke with words that were unfamiliar to him. “That's the grand plan? That's it?” he asked mockingly, his eyebrows raised in amusement.
I narrowed my eyes on Marcus. His mockery stung, but it also amused me. He had grown bolder, that much was clear, and I could see his newfound arrogance. What he didn't know is that he's mine to manipulate.
He believed in the lies I'd fed him all these while about his Alpha blood, so of course, he would assume we were equals. He's still a filthy powerless omega.
“Yes, Marcus, that's it,” I replied smoothly, leaning back in my chair, the dim light casting shadows across my face. “It's simple, but effective. Kane's ambition will be his downfall. And Williams…he'll be too preoccupied trying to defend Cleopatra to see what's coming. I even heard he's been away for a while now, which makes it even more perfect. So while they tear each other apart, we step in and finish the job.”
“But why does Alpha Kane want Cleopatra to come back so badly that he has to go there to fetch her himself?” he asked curiously.
I eyed him closely before answering. “Well, Cleopatra is his weapon to destroy Williams. She has been in the Stone Heart Pack all along as a spy. But make no mistake, we are not to hurt Cleopatra. I'm taking her in as my chosen Luna.”
Marcus shifted uncomfortably in his chair, his confidence wavering as he digested my words. “So you're telling me to sit back and wait while they fight. How does that prove I'm meant to lead? How does that announce to the entire realm that I'm the rightful Alpha?”
I resisted the urge to scoff. His desire to prove himself was exactly what I had been counting on. He didn't even realize how deeply I'd twisted his mind. I let the silence linger for a moment before I spoke again.
“You don't need to charge in to prove anything,” I said, my voice controlled. “A true Alpha uses his brain, not just his brawn. Williams and Kane are going to destroy each other, and you'll take the Stone Heart Pack when they're too weak to stop you. But you can't do it alone. That's why I'm here.”
He was listening now, leaning forward slightly, his eyes narrowing in thought. “So what do you need me to do?”
I smiled. He was right where I wanted him.
“Your role is critical, Marcus,” I said. “You know the inner workings of Williams’ pack. You'll lead us in through the exit you fled from and guide us straight to the heart of his pack and when the time is right, we will strike from our hiding place.”
Marcus leaned back, his arms crossed over his chest as he considered my words. I could see the determination in his eyes and knew right away that the seeds of doubt and ambition I had planted were finally taking root.
I decided to push him just a little further. “You want to be more than just an omega, don't you?” I asked, my voice a dangerous whisper. “This is your chance. Williams has always kept you beneath him. He never saw you as an equal. But I do.”
Marcus’ eyes flicked up to meet mine, a glimmer of ambition igniting in their depths. “And what do you stand to gain?” he asked quietly.
“Nothing more than just Cleopatra,” I replied with a smile.
“What do I need to do now?” he asked again, this time with more determination.
I smiled darkly. “Return through the way you escaped from and wait. I will alert you when we are ready to invade. You'll lead us in so that when Kane and Williams are both at their weakest and their warriors worn out, we'll lead the strike. Together.”
Marcus nodded firmly.
“Soon,” I said softly, more to myself than to him, “everything will fall into place.”
Marcus stood, his posture now exuding the false confidence I'd instilled in him. “I'll be leaving now,” he said, his voice stronger than before.
As he turned to leave, I let my smile grow wider. Marcus was a weapon, finely honed and aimed directly at Williams’ heart. He didn't even realize how deeply he'd been manipulated, how he was just a pawn in my game.
But soon, the pieces would fall. And I would be the one holding all the power.
With Cleopatra right by my side.
