Pregnant?
Cleopatra’s POV
That day when the door creaked open, a young member of our pack peeked in, her face pale, her hands trembling.
"Lucien sent me. Something terrible has happened. He wants both of you to come out immediately."
I exchanged a glance with Rob, our brows furrowed in confusion. His eyes searched mine for a moment, but there was no need for words. We followed the girl as she led us through the dimly lit halls and out toward the entrance of the pack.
As we approached, I felt it—a shiver ran down my spine. Something was wrong, terribly wrong.
Before I could voice it, Lucien's grave voice echoed in the air.
"The veil," he began, his eyes dark with worry. "The one your mother used to seal us in... it's broken."
I stopped in my tracks, the weight of his words sinking in. My mother had sealed the territory in an ancient magic, a protection passed down through generations. Nothing could break it. Except me.
Lucien's gaze was intense as he continued, "I think it has something to do with what happened to you last night."
My throat tightened. "Should I learn the ritual to put it back up?" I asked, my voice almost too soft.
Lucien shook his head. "No. It’s time we get back into the world. We’ve been hidden for too long."
After inspecting the area where the veil had been torn, Lucien instructed Rob to organize the warriors, placing them at key strategic points around the territory. "We’ve never needed guards before," he muttered, "but with the shield down, everything's different."
I watched as the warriors moved swiftly, taking up their positions. The calm they once had was gone, replaced by the tension of an open world they hadn't been part of for years.
Lucien motioned for me to follow him to his office. As soon as we were inside, he spoke in a hushed tone, "I've been meeting with the Alpha King. I told him everything that happened in the past with your father, mother, the lies that the current Night Wolf Alpha had spread and... he’s cleared your father’s name. He believed me.”
My breath caught in my chest. My father, whose honor had been smeared for years—finally cleared.
"But there’s more," Lucien said, his expression growing darker. "I told the Alpha King about Kane and how he used you. The oath you swore to him because of his father, everything. He knows now."
My heart clenched at the mention of Alpha Kane. The manipulation, the betrayal—memories I tried to bury deep, but they always found a way to resurface.
I’ve already decided that he will know the bitterness of my revenge when I’m done with him. Just the thought of him caused my blood to boil.
I took a deep breath, meeting Lucien’s gaze. "I had a vision," I confessed. "I didn’t kill Alpha Kane’s father. I was framed by Aloha Kane."
His eyes flickered with understanding as though he already knew, but before he could respond, he dropped the final bombshell.
"The Alpha King has sent for you, Cleopatra. He wants you to meet him. When the time comes, we’ll leave."
The words lingered between us, heavy with implications I wasn’t ready to face.
---
I didn’t think Alpha Williams would be invited as well. But he was and my wolves jumped up in ecstasy when he captured my lips for a kiss.
And now, the unexpected battle has ended. Our attackers had fled, leaving behind the scent of blood and the echo of screams.
Why couldn’t I kill the Night Wolf Alpha? Why did I blank out at that moment?
I stood in my wolf form, feeling the weight of the battle in every muscle, every fiber of my being. My wolves rumbled beneath my skin, waiting to be released.
But I couldn’t shift back.
My thoughts were a storm—chaotic, tangled. The Night Wolf Alpha’s words haunted me. What gave it away? How did he know about my pregnancy when I had only found out this morning?
Before I could piece it together, Williams crouched down by my side, his arms strong as he lifted me up in my wolf form, carrying me away from the blood-soaked battlefield. My limbs were too weak to protest, my mind too disoriented to make sense of everything.
He carried me into the quarters he had been given last time we were here, the familiar surroundings somehow foreign now. The adrenaline from the battle still pulsed through me, but with every step he took, the weight of reality settled in. My body was exhausted, but my mind raced—thoughts swirling faster than I could keep up with.
Why couldn’t I kill the Night Wolf Alpha? Why did I blank out at that moment? And how had he known about my pregnancy?
Williams’s hand brushed through my hair as he laid me on the bed and knelt beside me, his touch gentle but hesitant. I shifted back into my human form, the effort it took reminding me how drained I truly was.
I could feel his struggle—how much he wanted to comfort me, yet something kept him at a distance. His eyes searched mine, full of questions, fear, and something else I couldn’t quite place.
I tried to sit up, but the weight of everything—the battle, the secrets I was holding, the growing life inside me—pressed down like a stone. Before I could even open my mouth, he spoke.
“Cleopatra…” His voice was soft, but laced with an uncertainty I wasn’t used to hearing from him. “Is it true?”
I froze. Of course, that’s what this was about. The words I’d been avoiding ever since I found out this morning. The Night Wolf Alpha’s cruel revelation hung between us like a curse.
I swallowed hard, trying to figure out how to answer. I had faced down enemies that wanted me dead, fought to protect those I loved, but this—this moment felt like the most dangerous battle yet. I could feel the weight of his question pressing down on me. There was no escape.
He deserves the truth, a voice inside me whispered. But the fear of complicating things even further, was too much.
I forced myself to meet his gaze, but I could see it now—his hope, fragile and barely hanging on. If I told him the truth, everything between us would change. I wasn’t ready for that. I didn’t want him to feel like this was my ticket out of the betrayal.
And then, the words slipped out, almost without my permission. “No,” I whispered, barely able to hear myself. “He’s probably bluffing.”
His brows furrowed as he studied me, as if searching for the truth in my eyes, and I could see the hesitation, the conflict in his mind. His shoulders stiffened slightly, but he didn’t pull away.
Williams stayed silent for a long moment. His hand, which had been gently stroking my hair, stilled. His thoughts were a whirlwind—I could feel it. He wanted to believe me. He wanted to trust me.
But something in my voice had betrayed me.
“Cleopatra,” he finally said, his voice quiet but firm, “don’t lie to me.”
His words cut deeper than I expected. I hadn’t realized how much I needed his trust—how much I feared losing it. But I had come too far, and now I was too afraid to unravel the lie I had already told.
“I’m not lying,” I said, more firmly this time, though the words tasted bitter on my tongue. “Even if I am… I’m certain it’s not yours.”
I watched his face twist in fury, but underneath the anger, I saw something worse. Hurt. Betrayal.
There we go.
