A Royal Order

Williams’ POV

I fastened my belt and wore my jacket. This is the first time since I was appointed that I’ve summoned all the packs under me.

We need to set up some rules and put certain measures in place.

I took one look at myself in the mirror and sighed. Ever since that day Eugene gave me his own theory about what could have happened to Cleopatra. I've had nightmares that she returned as a vampire and that she would attack me.

I carefully plastered a strong expression on my face and exited my office. I haven’t slept in my room for the longest time. Anytime I tried it, memories of Cleopatra laying next to me, naked, would haunt my mind.

“Alpha,” I heard Renee saying calmly. “You need to see who we spotted at the airport.”

I gestured for her to come closer and she did, holding up her iPad so I could see the footage she was showing me. And there in the video, was the man who kidnapped Alex. I can’t forget that stance in a hurry.

“Hurry, send out our special…”

“I’ve sent out the squad already, Williams. He would be captured in no time,” Renee interjected, reassuring me of the success.

I merely grunted and proceeded to go downstairs. Just as I was about to take the last step down, the corners of my eyes caught someone.

My wolf started pacing around eagerly like a starved puppy. Just seeing Cleopatra alone was doing things to my body and head.

She looked…drop-dead gorgeous and I fought the urge to run up to her and scoop her into my arms. What would everyone present think of me?

She turned around and our eyes met. There was a strange connection, like we were saying so much to each other without moving our lips. Her blue eyes held an intense gaze that made me hesitate. Her lips looked full and plump like a ripe strawberry that bloomed just for me.

Instinctively, I started walking towards her, my eyes still ravaging her body. Her dress clung to her body, revealing every curve which made my chest tight. Is that jealous?

Few steps to reach her and I was blocked by someone else. I was beyond furious. I looked at the figure that was standing between me and my prize in irritation.

“Hey Alpha Williams,” she whispered in a raspy voice. I guess she was trying to sound seductive. Too bad, she’s nothing like Cleo…” The name got stuck in my throat as I lifted my eyes to her direction only to see her engrossed in a conversation with another Alpha.

Why didn’t she walk up to me? Did the healing
Process affect her memory or something? I tried to focus on her while the bobblehead in front of me continued yapping about how good she can make me feel.

I pushed the lady in front of me aside and made to walk towards Cleopatra but she tripped over and I had no choice but to be the gentleman and catch her.

Her loud gasp earned us an attention I never wanted as all eyes were now fixed on us. The position was awkward but she was satisfied as a silly smile played on her lips. She wounded her arms round my neck, like I was her life support.

From the corners of my eyes, I saw Cleopatra walking away and let the girl fall off. I sprinted towards her but was stopped by Renee.

What the fuck is wrong with everybody today?

“It’s time, Williams. They’ve all gathered.”

“Give me a minute,” I replied and looked over her shoulders but couldn’t see Cleopatra anymore.

“We don’t have a minute, Alpha. You need to address them so we can get started with the meeting,” she replied, sounding stern.

With a resigned look, I followed her towards the crowd to address them. My mind was still racing. Cleopatra was here. After everything, she just showed up like nothing had happened?

I couldn’t shake off the unease settling deep in my chest that something was off about her. That look in her eyes seemed…distant.

I stood in front of the assembled Alphas, Betas, and a few other pack representatives, the weight of their expectant eyes heavy on my shoulders. I was supposed to address them but all I could think about was Cleopatra.

What happened to her while she was gone? What did the vampires say to her?

“Alpha Williams,” Renee prompted quietly from my side, breaking me from my thoughts. “They’re waiting.”

I cleared my throat, forcing my mind back to the task at hand. I couldn’t afford to lose focus, not now. I pushed thoughts of Cleopatra to the back of my mind, at least for now.

“Thank you all for honoring this invitation,” I began, my voice steady, despite the storm brewing inside me. “This is an important moment for all the packs under my rule. We need unity now more than ever, with the threats we face, both from within and beyond our borders.”

I scanned the room and continued addressing the group, my wolf stirring restlessly within me. He was furious I had let Cleopatra slip away without a word. I could barely focus on what I was saying and the responses being given.

Every time I blinked, I could see her in my mind’s eye, the soft curve of her lips, the intensity of her eyes.

But I couldn't go after her now. I had to play the part, finish what I started. This meeting was about setting boundaries, solidifying alliances, and ensuring that all packs under our rule would adhere to the same code of honor and strength.

Yet all I could think about was Cleopatra.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I wrapped up the speech. Everyone exchanged glances, discussing the next steps, but I couldn't hear any of it. I needed to find her. I needed to know why she avoided me.

Renee approached me again, her brow furrowed in concern. “You okay, Alpha?”

I gave a curt nod. “Yeah. Just need some air.”

Without waiting for her reply, I stepped away from the gathering and started making my way towards the corridor where I last saw Cleopatra.

“Alpha Williams?” I turned around and saw one of my father's old friends, Alpha Steve Othello, marching towards me with the lady who almost jumped my bones by his side.

“I didn't expect to see you today, Alpha,” I said to him, bowing slightly.

“Well I had to come after receiving the Alpha King's letter,” he said with a big smile on his face.

“What letter?” I asked, curious and distracted at the same time.

He dipped his hand into his fury coat and brought out an envelope. I almost ripped it apart in my bid to hasten up so I can go after Cleopatra.

As I tore open the letter, my heart sank. My eyes widened in disbelief and my blood ran cold as I read the words.
