Fragments of A Vision

Cleopatra's POV

When I opened my eyes, I found myself standing at the entrance of the nightmarish cell again. But this time, I was grateful. This was my chance to look around for clues, anything that could help me trace this place when I get back to the Silverfang Pack, so I could make sense of this twisted reality.

I searched around frantically, hoping to see any trace that something gruesome had happened here. I scanned the dim surroundings for clues. My heart reached as my gaze flicked over every Crack and shadow.

There has to be something here, I told myself. There has to be a sign…

Without hesitation, I darted into the cell, my feet light against the cold stone floor. But as soon as I crossed the threshold, a chill clawed up my spine. The scene that unfolded in front of me froze me in place.

It was empty.

Completely, impossibly empty.

What? My mind scrambled to understand. How? Why?

Where were the chains that had once rattled in the darkness? The blood stains that had soaked the ground? The air, once thick with the stench of suffering, now felt cold but eerily clean. Even the walls that had held the horror of the past seemed indifferent, barren, as if they had never witnessed anything at all.

I whirled around, searching frantically, desperate to find even the smallest trace of the gruesome scene I had witnessed before. There has to be something!

But there was nothing. It was as if the cell itself was kicking me, erasing every trace of the horror I knew I had seen.

I crouched down, running my fingers over the cold, unforgiving ground, hoping to feel something–some invincible residue left behind. But the smoothness beneath my fingers sent a wave of confusion rolling through me.

Were the previous visions wrong? Or is this vision wrong? What is going on? My thoughts spiraled.

“No…” I whispered, my voice trembling. “This can't be happening. The cell should be here.”

Every nerve in my body screamed that something was horribly wrong. But there is nothing I could do about it. The evidence I sought was gone.

The cell, once filled with death and terror, now stood empty before me, clean, as if the nightmare I saw earlier was merely a figment of my imagination.

Yet I knew better.

Somewhere, deep down, I could still feel it. The faintest echoes of the prisoners that had once been chained to these walls. I could still hear their distant wailing in my mind, their voice calling out in despair.

But who cleaned up this place? And why? My heart sank as the full weight of the truth hit me.

The ambush…I thought, my pulse quickening. Had they all been killed for the betrayal of their family members who were planted as spies?

The realization hit me like a dagger to the chest. The words formed in my mind, but I could barely bring myself to speak them aloud.

I killed them.

Renee’s POV

“Is she out cold?” I asked Alpha Williams as I peered into his room from the doorway. He nodded, his expression tight with concern.

“Hopefully she won't wake up till morning,” he replied, tucking Cleopatra in carefully as if she was a child. Well… She is his lover so…

The second I had seen the text, I knew that Williams would want her to stay, for her own safety and to relieve himself of the guilt of something terrible happening to her again. So, I passed the phone over to him, knowing what was coming next.

This isn't just her fight. It's ours as well. If it's really the kidnapper with the strange tattoo, then I should be the one going after him. For Williams. For our late Luna.

Last time was a mistake. I should have gone with our squad that went after him at the airport. Things would have turned out differently.

Alpha Williams closed the door gently behind him and we began walking towards the study.

“Get a car ready for tomorrow,” he ordered, his voice grim. We have to…”

“No, Williams,” I interrupted, my voice firm. I knew what he was going to say but I couldn't let him do it. “I should be the one going. Alone. The message said to come alone, remember?”

His face twisted in confusion, his features darkening as the weight of my words sunk in.

“What are you talking about, Renee?” he demanded, anger barely restrained in his voice. “You think I would let you walk into a lion's den alone? Are you out of your goddamn mind?” he yelled.

“Just listen for a second, Alpha” I started but he cut me off, growling with frustration.

“No you listen, Beta!” he barked angrily, his voice low. “What you're suggesting is clearly reckless. I won't allow it.”

“I want to do this. For our pack. For you! He escaped the last time because I wasn't there. Let me make this right. I'll leave in the morning and if I don't return by lunch, you can send men to come after me. You know the address as well,” I replied, trying to convince him.

I could see the struggle play out across his face. His hands clenched into fists and unclenched as he fought with the decision, the internal battle between protecting me and trusting me to handle this.

Silence stretched between us as we reached the study. I stood firm, knowing what had to be done.

“Renee, I don't want you to be in that kind of danger again. I was scared when I saw you after the ambush,” he whispered, finally meeting my gaze.

Something in his voice made my chest tighten. Even though I knew I would never be his chosen Luna, his concern for me was real. That mattered more than I'd realized.

“I'll keep my tracker on,” I assured him. “You'll know where I am at all times. I got this, Williams.”

He sighed and I knew he had given in to my request. I have to do this myself.

This wasn't just about duty—it was personal.
